Dave i was thinking of that . I would first need the alt to see some idea of what would be involved . Im reading that these are of more compact style then the standard ones.

Oh ya, they are very small and completely round, at least the one I saw was. The after market ones come in chrome also, very sleek looking.
Brick chrome means polishing and thats out of the question for me . Just want to turn key and drive.:)
Hey guys,
I havent updated progress in a while other than the thread I have going on rearend setup. Please visit and answer if you've had any experience with this, it's my first attempt. Anyway, frame is back, painted, and front and rear suspentions are under construction. Here's a few shots:
The frame is looking good.
Quick progress frame is looking great . You'll be on a roller in no time it seems . Keep up the progress like seeing it and it helps all to get going .
Chome is fun to me, only place I like alot of it is the engine, ok to be gaudy there I believe. But to each his own, if you love it do it is what I say. Rodding is a blast no matter where you at in it.
Frame is coming along very nicely, won't be long now and body time eh Falconvan?
Brick i agree it looks good . Years ago i peeled plastic of motorcycle and had to semichrome it every spring and a few times in summer , found out this is some very tedious work :( . I'll park outside and come in and look at yours and go wow sure does look good :) .
Finally put some rubber on front rims i found at the local salvage a couple 205-65-R15s . The rims kept tracking at some good numbers . Measured out tracking still at 56 in the front and a little over 58 in the rear . A shot in the dark paid off i wasn't for sure these rims would fit as well as they do .
Now the 15s will help me move along with some plumbing on the brakes . I couldn't mount calipers with the 14s i was rolling it on . I think i read in some mag where they sell the rubber line kit with brackets and clips to plumb the wheels and rear end . Since im building a driver steel lines will move it along quickly .
I would like to say that after investigation I have the right balancer, got the timing adjusted and she is running alot better. Also the adjustments I made to the carb have also helped. So thanks everyone for your help, the car is great fun to drive with alot more response and power.
Brick glad to hear you have it all worked out. Now the big question is did you get a spare set of tires for it yet . :D . Most cars even though the bugs are there once there squashed they are a fun thing to cruise out in .
Finally got a chance to put in a few hours on my pickup. Got some more of the accessories put on the engine, and yes I know that masking tape will not last long as a serpentine belt!!! Got the dash all buffed and now it's time to put everything together! Bill got the inside of the box painted on his Chevy and put the carpet in. His good front seat is still at the upholstery shop, so he put a spare in the truck for now. Might get both of these pickups done someday!!!!!!
PS--It ain't a hot rod if it doesn't have peep mirrors!!!!!!
Looking really good Dave . Everytime you post a pic its closer to finished and alot of work was done . With all the work i see you doing with the 3 projects im allways in aww. Is that 2 chevy's i see in the pic ? your not tilting from Ford are you LOL.
Nope, they both belong to Bill. I'm still solid Ford, well, other then the Camaro in my garage..... But it belongs to Jackie
Yeah, and being a closet Denny Hamlin fan.............:LOL:Quote:

I might have, have to look. Actually all it is is the removable tranny access cover that was originally in the pickup, then I just added the shifter mount and cover and the panel for the gauge mount.... On chebbie pickups that don't have the removable section, the top rail off an oil pan makes a great base to start with. Just creative hot rodding from the use what you got geezer style of building.....  :LOL:Quote:

One thing's for sure in this hobby, plans can change a lot. After extensive measuring, drawing, and adding prices last week I came to the conclusion that the work and cost of using this 4.6 Ford motor I have is more than I want to get into. The thing is just too long and wide in stock form to go in without major renovations. In addition to the fact that there's limited support for it in the aftermarket, which makes everything cost a mint. I'm not a huge SBC advocate because i've built so many of them and everyone uses them, but I scored a 2001 Vortec 295 hp 5.3 with 60,000 and it will cost a fraction to set it up as opposed to the Ford. Now I remember why everyone uses them. It's definately a step up from all the older Chevy motors I built over the years. Someone on here a few months ago asked why I wasn't using a small block and I gave the grand speech about being different, too many small blocks out there, etc, etc... Forgive my arrogance, time to put cost before principles. It'll still be cool. Thanks, dudes.:o
MMMM 4.6 67 Stang wish the timing was right. You should have no trouble moving it either Falcon . One more hot Stang item looked for . Look into placing it in a Mustang forum im sure someone nearby you will see it . Also place the rearend in there . free to join and 1000"s of members. only took a little over a week to score the serpentine parts i needed .

Is this the SOHC or DOHC 4.6??? Might be interested!!!!Quote:

Looking for a motor for the scooter Dave? I am a little blown away that the ford parts are so much more expensive than chevy, they made a million of them didn't they?
My pal with the chassis dyno does a lot of 4.6 engines, he's always looking for them so I gave him the headsup on this one. Ford parts aren't that much higher. They used to be, but the 5.0 Mustangs brought in a bunch of new aftermarket manufacturers making Ford parts.... Prices on Ford parts have gone down considerably since....Quote:

Dave they are turning some impressive numbers with some bolt on hardware. Remember a article on the 04 or 05 that they worked and it was in the high 12's easily .
pics of a little before and after . Doors are cut but hiding in the shed .
The big problem on these early Mark VIII motors is that the throttle body is in the back of the engine. Moving the engine foward for all the stuff to clear the firewall can cause some front clearance issues. Relocating it to the side can fix that but that leaves you to find a 96-98 Cobra intake which proved to be no easy or cheap task. Sullivan Performance makes aftermarket intakes for the later motors but not the early ones, and that's about it. A new Cobra intake from Ford is $3500.00! I couldn't find much in the way of stand alone wiring harnesses for under a grand, either. But I agree, the numbers are impressive. That's why I bought the thing in the first place. It'd look great in that Ranchero, Dave! There's plenty of room under that hood.
My pal Andy is using these older one's, too....not as a complete engine, but as spare parts... No idea what all he uses, or their interchangeability... I've seen a couple of the DOHC cars on his chassis dyno putting in excess of 600 to the ground with the Procharger system on them... With the towers out of the Ranchero, it would be an easy fit...along with one of the 6 speeds and the IRS could be a wild one!!!!!

Looking good Bluestang, the stance is right on and I agree with Dave everything just seems to fit right.
Is this 4.6 engine you are talking about a 6 or 8 cylinder engine?
It's the Ford modular V-8. Comes in SOHC and DOHC versions. The DOHC has many performance goodies available for it, easily puts out 400+ horse. Ford also is producing one a bit bigger that is 302 cubes, will take the DOHC heads, and with a Procharger system on it, will do in excess of 500 RWHP and still be very streetable!!!!Quote:

I found some rubber molding that worked perfect for running board in my car, I used F-26 to glue it down which I have never used on metal or rubber befor but it says it works so we'll see.

Looking good!!!! Just keep writing them checks and it'll be on the road soon!!! Gonna be one fine ride when it's done!!!!
Nova it is a rollor. Maybe not to far from some fuel.
Thanks Dave and Brick
Those Mark engines are being put in vintage stangs alot. Like you say Dave right out of the box there impressive with performance in a lighter car . I pondered the thought before i sold the FB for one .
Bobby: The before and after shots really show how much work you've gotten done. Looking really good.
Nova: The shop that is building your car really does great fabrication work. Normally, I'm not a fan of big wheels/low profile tires, but on yours they look very good and not out of place. Bet you are getting a real stack of cancelled checks, huh? :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE:

I got a new little gearhead in the family last night at 1am. This is Kayden, my first grandbaby. My daughter did great, she had a long day of it before they decided to do a c-section, but both mom and baby are doing well. I can't wait to build his first hot rod with him!:3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: :3dSMILE:
Congrats Falcon!!! Better start looking for parts and figuring out what he wants to build, ya can't start too early!!!!!!
Congrats Falcon. I just found out a couple days ago my Daughter is due in Feb. First for us too. :)
