Amen to that brother! It will be a challenge but with some narrow tri-y headers it isn't too bad. That engine really ran hard in my ol' 85 truck, I am looking forward to hearing it in this dart. I have a 292 comp rock and roller with a stall to go into her before the dart. Should be a blast to drive I am thinking.
Those old Darts are fun, had one with a 340, ran plenty strong!!! Well, Merc 2 isn't done, just some pinstripes and clear over the primer, no hood installed yet, and no interior but the guys sure are having fun with it!!!! Soon as the weather gets cold I guess we'll get back on it and get it done, for now it sure is a fun driver though!!!!
Dave, you do absolutely outstanding work, that baby is gorgous in primer!! I am loving the pinstriping, I guess you guys are planning to leave it in primer huh? What a great looking car, that Would be a blast to cruise in, have you had her out Dave?
Dave see it made it back . There are some sweeping lines in that look. Seat time would be a kick im sure.
That be one bad lookin Merc, Dave. The stance is perfect! I love those taillights, too. How did you make those?
Those are store bought, Hagan's makes them. I use some of their tailights and headlight components. They also make some first rate fuel filler doors and a lot of other goodies....Quote:

I'm sure we'll change wheel and tire combo when we get back on it... Need more backspacing on the fronts and probably some wide whites. Just used what we had around for now, this being the prototype (more or less) I wasn't sure what all would be right for the car... Oh yeah, the primer has a couple coats of clear over it with a splash or three of purple pearl powder in it, the stripes were added just for giggles!!!! Hopefully they'll let me at least borrow it long enough to put the hood on someday!!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

I have a dumb question for you guys, I am going to put that big cam in my BB mopar and I will have to have a stall. I have not had any experience with them. Do they act like a normal tranny during normal operation? I know they are need to kick out earlier for high idle engines but what else do they do and what should I expect. Also any suggestions on where and what kind to buy would also help. Thanks

Dave if you put a wet brush down i'm sure it's very good . If you did it with out a refridgerator magnet it has to be exceptional .
Done with masking tape and a touch up gun, nothing special here!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

Well by the time I went for a new breaker for the welder :whacked: and a few other derailments, I did at least get the bases welded to the hinges. Welds aren't real purdy', but they are stuck together. Welds get covered up Ann E. Way. shhhhh don't tell Ann E. Body.

Ok Pro, It'll be a secret....Nobody will ever see it here!!!!
;) ;)
Pro you woudn't mind popping the doors off and removing a hinge at the track would you .:3dSMILE:
Popping the door off sure, takin' a hinge off, nope. :whacked:

A little higher stall than stock won't hurt anything. Put a good trans cooler on it. I had a 2,800 in my panel truck with a BBC and pulled a camper all over the country with no problems. The higher the stall the more heat it will generate. It all depends what you plan to use it for. If you plan to race, you would want to match the stall to the optimum power range of the engine. If your driving on the street a 5,500 stall wouldn't be too practical. Just have to find the converter that's best for the application.
Thanks Pro70, I will be using a mild street one (2800) for the cam I have coming, the 400 BB I have came with a 727 w/a 2200 stock but the 292 (Xtreme) comp cam says it needs a 2800 stall with at least a 3:56 rear end gear.
Well, here's the start of the '67 Coupe... This one was definitely a save from the crusher!! I guess there's enough to start with for the way the car will be built. Not much done yet, just some plates to reinforce the front rails and a test fit of the new crossmember.
Dave that will be some work . A little rust for you to take care of. Or is a restore the point in the build . Is this going to be a sleeper for the driving.
full frame, MII ifs, 9" rear and a 5.4 with AOD... Stock looking exterior and interior. Just the normal tune-up!!!!
Cool be one of my favorite builds your doing now Dave . Thats going to be a sweet look . You going to piece the IFS together or did you get a kit ? . If you could keep a price list for piecing i may go that route if its economical
Other then the crossmember, it will be all stuff right off the shelf, same pieces I usually use. I might fab up some moly arms and a few other pieces, trying to keep the weight down on this one..... Had my heart set on one of the aluminum 5.4 blocks like the GT's use till I found out they have no provision for mounting a starter. With the mid engine layout of the GT's, the starter is attached backwards and mounted to a plate or something on the back of the engine.....???? I'm sure I could fab something up, but at almost $4k for the block, not sure I can afford to do a lot of experimenting!!! Got to find some detailed pics of the GT's engine and drivetrain layout, I REALLY want to use the aluminum block in the Ranchero....... Oh well, if was easy I guess everybody would be doing it!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

They may still have the GT drive train under cover yet . They must have seen you looking at one LOL .
Yup, by the time you get a rack only installed with oil pan clearance for an FE, the bumpsteer is sooooo far off the car is almost undrivable!!!!Quote:

As soon as I get the crossmember mods done so that I have both clearance for the very wide and tall 5.4 and the geometry correct I'll let ya know.Quote:

Oh yeah, this shot has it mocked up with a 460 block and front sump pan. For an FE, I'd have to know which pan depth you'd want...I would consider a custom rear sump and pickup for an FE, or if money doesn't scare you away, maybe a belt driven pump set-up, but not a dry sump if any of that makes sense!!!!!
Not a Racer so some of it goes overhead . Rear sump pans are available if so i like that keeping with somewhat a traditional look . Great when you Git Err Dun just let me know and give me the classes i need . Dave thanks i see something good going under the ole FB.
That fits well and I suppose if you where sitting too high, 2" drop spindles and the handling and ride are still there right? Well done Dave, I have my eye on a stock 74 gt I found a week ago. That will be the front end for my next project, I love wrecking yards!
Brick you barely find stuff in the 80's around here let alone 70 stuff .
Been playing with the geometry on both this and the Mustang.... Trying to make room for most any engine/tranny combination and still keep the cg low and the roll center at a level that is streetable yet still aggresive enough for some track time.... Almost caught up on other projects now, should be able to get back on the fun stuff in another month or so... Both projects are also under consideration for an 8.8" IRS.... :) :) :) :whacked:Quote:

Living in the back woods has it's advantages, I think fords grow wild out here, they come in all shapes and colors. There are still people driving their 64 ford galaxies to the grocery store and you can see thier Edsel in the carport because Grandmas eyes don't let her drive much anymore. Uncle Bob's 55 ford skyliner and sonny jr's 68 road runner wait in the barn since they left for that damn asian war and they will be there when they come home. I love America.
I'd better never come down for a visit, I'd definitely be guilty of car jacking!!!!!!   :LOL:Quote:

Still plugging away on my old pickup, got the dash all cut and buffed. Finally starting to put things together for the last time!!!!!
I originally took this one apart 16 years ago......Locating a lot of the little parts has become an interesting challenge!!!!!!
Dave the dash is looking good . Guages are right at home and sure a bit different then i remember in there . So keep plugging the finish line is closer right .
