The rest of the interior will be the original grey panels and front seats, back seat has joined the "delete" list in favor of a 6 point roll bar and some aluminum covers where the back seat used to be hiding the battery and whatever else needs to be hidden. Got started on some of the brackets for the rearend housing, the upper bars on the triangulated 4 bar will actually come inside the car and be tied into the bars and frame ties.....
You know, just the standard rebuild!!!!!
and Mike, this one is Jackies and will stay all chebbie.... The Z28 is mine and will have Windsor Stroker Power with a Tremec 5 speed!!!!!! Somebody has got to be able to keep up with Joe's Camaro that will have the 430 horse Gen III small block!!!!!:3dSMILE: :3dSMILE:

Well, I'm doing the blue one for Joe. The black one will end up being dark purple metallic with some kind of dark pearl base coat, and mine is an '85 Z28 that will be Ford powered. Tons of these 80's Camaro's around here locally that can be had dirt cheap. Much as I like my Blue Oval's, got to do what I can sell, also. Anyway, all of the proceeds from my stuff will be going into the Ranchero, Jackie is saving up to buy one of the "brand new" 1st generation Camaro shells like Foose builds. It will have a full tube chassis and a 572 crate engine, or so she tells me!!! :LOL: :LOL:Quote:

Im still buting sheet metal for my truck...latest purchase is windshield and bench seat, which i want to recover myself...not sure quite how yet. Engine and tranny is in the future...nothing sandblasted primered or filled as of yet either...
the older i get the less radical i like. i built a camaro in the late 80's, for a guy, with a 502 cu.in. that held the fastest st. car a few yrs. at the richmond drag-way. 10.8 closed up and st. tires. it had the have a st. insp. sticker to run. but it won't fit to drive everyday. he sold it to a guy, that said he was gonna go faster, so he carried it to his man, they pulled the motor and reworked it and slowed down .2. thats the reason i used blowers for 20 yrs. basic stock motor with a plenty of power when needed.Quote:

keep the boast down, timing low, and be sure you have enough carb. and show it some respect and you can ride anywhere you want to. the white el camino had was a stock 454, with a 671 on it. drove it all over the country. did a lot of profiling and no racing.Quote:

The simplest damn things seem to cause me so much grief with it.
Back in the spring, I got the rear bumper pieces and front bumper guards on it which was a much bigger pain than I could have ever imagined. Actually, the rear pieces went on great (of course they are orignals so it makes sense). After they were on, I was supremely confident that it was a downhill battle as the front bumper guards are simply 2 bolts each. I was thinking 15-20 minutes, if I nurse a beer between them, no problem.
Now I'll admit, if I would have just conceded and modded the inner front bumper brackets when I first realized they were probably going to need the mod, it would have been quicker and much less frustrating. I'll bite the bullet and admit it though, :o I was feeling lazy that day and tried like hell to get it to go on without pulling them out and just doing the mod. The more I tried to coax it, and "sweet talk" (read curse the h*** out of) it, the more :mad: p.o.'d I got.
Finally :rolleyes: after about 20 minutes of this nonsense, I realized that the definition of insanity was starting to look pretty damn close to the image in the mirror, so I removed the inner brackets, modded them and put them back in.
Next, I put the first bumper guard on and *SURPRISE!* it , went on just like it's supposed to. At that point, (and believe it or not I can still remember thinking this to myself)..."that's right..#$%#$..mess with the bull, you get the horns..." Juvenile, I know, but at the time, it made me feel so much better.
So, with smug satisfaction, I grabbed the second one and went about mounting it to the bumper. This is, ironically, the exact moment, that the Cameo decided it was time to put me in my place. I put the bumper guard up to the bumper, and to my absolute horror, realized that second one wasn't even going to fit the bumper at all. It wasn't cut the same as the first one. If I matched the cut of the guard to the bumper, the top of it stuck out (forward) about an inch farther than the other one.....Shouldn't have tried saving the $30.00 going with a different supplier than I usually do for that kind of stuff for my truck. :CRY:
So, broke down and spent the extra money for a good set and I chalk it all up as a lesson learned.
Here are a couple pics I took during the summer after this whole fiasco.

Thanks guys. It's about due for another round of resto though. I don't know if I am ready for it, but it is. I am also quite certain that any budget regarding the project that I submit to the capital finance comittee (chaired by my lovely bride) will most likely be denied. Especially after all the $$$ I have dumped over the past year or two into the flaming chicken. So, I'll just keep driving it when the weather is nice and eventually, I'll work it into the things to do list.
If I could just convince my wife that the priortization of the honey-do list should be topped by my projects.....:HMMM: :)

Sooo I had an old 68 chevy truck frame which I shortened the wheel base and now I'm ready to start the body build all with 3/4" plywood. The theme is going to be what I always wanted. Bottom line here, 1923 chevy panel hearse with the side glass, curtains, viewing the old time coffin inside and red velvet interior. The body will be sealed and painted gloss black with lots of trim and the frame painted blood red. I do have a name for it which will be released upon completion as until now, I've never seen a name like the one I've dreamed up. Actually what drove me to this project is, my neighbors are buggie crazy. You know the little go cart like vechiles that cost around $4000.00 +. But the bad thing they are taking a chance on is, They're not street legal and especially driving drunk with beer in hand and coolers on the back. I can see it now man, when they drive past the house on they're little drunk tours. I'm going to follow them down the road. When they turn off to the woods and fields I'm gonna say: So long we're going to town and show off LOL.

I myself have finally settled in to my next build, a 70 dart swinger and I have a 400/727 to go in it, it's alittle rough but not too bad. Should be a real screamer if I can put it together right.
I feel for the married guys . I was living in a perfectly fine house when we decided to sell. HHHMMM we is a strong word. I hit the cpe hard for 2 years getting it to its present condition Dang Near New LOL. We found a home to buy but it was a place needing alot of work. Needless to say 6 years later and a couple more fun things as in cars (Love My Wife ) . The house is about rebuilt and the cpe is so close to paint i can taste it (Just Kidding ). I put the hammer back in the tool box and started to rub the Stang again. But jeez the 31 came and now im flipping coins .
Hey that Dart will make a great project Brick.!!!! Don't see anybody building them anymore. Been doing a bit of work for a fella on a '69 Dart, ex drag car being resurrected for the street. Try to remember to get some pics of it some day...

Here's an update on my gasser-inspired '56 Plymouth Belvedere. I got the '78 Chrysler front stub installed, the 440 rebuilt, a cage built, the fuel cell and fenderwell headers installed, and got it wired. It's legal (barely) and I recently took it out on it's maiden voyage. It runs great and handles better than I had hoped. Now I need to get the wipers working, figure out a heater so I can drive it year 'round ( I live at 7,600' in the Rockies), get the other bucket installed, etc. This thing is gonna be a blast!:D
Is it al stock suspension underneath her Animal Racer? How does that 440 move her down the road? 440 stock?
The front suspension is from a '78 Chrysler New Yorker w/disc brakes, torsion bars, etc. The rear suspension is stock '56, with a '78 8 1/4" rear. It's got a Dana/Spicer limited slip & new shocks and brakes. The 440 has been rebuilt, warmed up a little with Aero heads, Comp cam, M1 manifold with an Edelbrock 750. It runs pretty stout & sounds great through the 2 1/2" pipes and Flowmasters. It rides great! I'm very happy with the ride and performance. Now I just have to get some heat in it and get the interior finished up a little.
Got any plans for the front end? Body wise, I mean. Friend of mine is trying to get me to take one of the same year Chryslers in on trade...... Not sure if I like the front end on the car. I do like the looks of the 440 in there, though!!!!! Yours is really looking good, Animal. Might have to reconsider the trade deal.......
Since I took those pictures, I've added a small "dust pan" across the front, from fender to fender. I'm building a tube grille to fill the opening and I'd really like to find an old Ford F800 dump truck or something to steal the hood scoop off of. Afetr I get the grille made and installed, I'll post new pics. It may be awhile, though, as I'm also taking care of a lot of little stuff while it's in the shop.
Know what ya mean on taking care of other stuff..... Around here we call that getting some work done on customers cars so I can afford to spend more $$$$$ on mine!!!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: I keep thinking that one of these days (years?) Is that rear end really polished or are you just getting ready to paint it?
It's not polished, just sandblasted it then scuffed it with some 80 grit on the DA..... I hate working on dirty, rusty parts!!!!!! Got to fab up the rest of the brackets, then the rear end housing and a bunch of the front suspension pieces will be going to the powdercoater for a coat of a kind of pewter looking silver...... Going to 'blast the bottom of the car, then put a coat of color tinted bed liner on it......Quote:
