Tell me how it turns out, I may have a few small pieces done myself. IThe new gauges arrived, the car is in the paint shop....All is Well with the World! I am on a higher plain, can't wait to see it !
Those gauges are going to look really good in the coupe Brick!!! When is the paint going to be done? Anxious to see it when it's finished, you've been working on it a long time to get it to this point.
Ya, it's been a long haul to here, and it's not all done yet. When she gets out of the paint shop, she gets new seats and console along with a headliner. Going to be some great cruisin' next year, hell maybe a blower if everything works the way I want it to.
thats great brickman, look like you got it's all coming together !!!:D
Brick, I also have gauges sitting in a box along with a '32 face plate for a quad and either speedo or tach in the other hole. When I mocked up the steering wheel I can't see the speedo unless I put it way over to the right hole and then I would have to move my head to see it. I wonder how many roadsters have this problem? Anyway I am now waiting on a column drop on back order so I can locate the steering wheel and determine where to put an additional hole in the repo '32 dash right in front of the wheel to see through the steering wheel. Then I will put the tach in the '32 plate and the speedo in front of the wheel with the quad to the right where I can check the gas gauge occasionaly. I am just wondering how many roadster drivers put up with this problem because I have only seen two other early Fords with a speedo in front of the wheel. I owned and drove an original '31 Model A back in high school but I pretty much ignored the speedo then and the A wouldn't do much over 65 mph anyway. Just as well with those horrible mechanical brakes. Dave any comments on how many roadsters block out the view of the instruments with the steering wheel?

Won't it be great though Lt1, should make a big difference in the way she runs. Looking forward to your advice in the coming months.
Thats a surprise to me Don, with the gauges in the middle I thought they would easy to see.

The main hoop for the roll bar will set directly over the top of the rear mount point, and the door bar will mount directly above the front frame tie attach point.... I'm using 1 1/2" DOM for the frame ties, and 1 5/8" DOM for the 6 point roll bar, should tie everything together well. Also thinking of adding a rear crossmember/drive shaft hoop on the rear... Rear end will be a 9" with adjustable lowers and uppers on the triangulated 4 bar.... Should ride ok and handle great!!!!
Just had a guy in today inquiring about a competition type 'glass Merc.... If he decides to have one built, might as well sell both Camaro's, the pickup, and the Ranchero..... won't have any time at all to work on my own stuff.... Geez, I thought retirement would be easier!!!!!!
If you wern't so damn good at it, nobody would bother you Dave!
Just an up date, car rolling along well, doors have been lined up, fenders aligned, and rear fenders re-welded and aligned. I'll have some pic's tomorrow, also the hood goe's in for it's leuvers monday.
Don't know that I'm that good, maybe I'm just too cheap!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

Sounds good, Brick. Now remember, the old rule on louvering a hood is that it has to be an odd number of louvers.......

Cool, I really like them too, I am pumped to get them in. Going to be a long winter once the car is out of paint. Has your car already been painted peiceofpaper?
Ya too cheap is probly closer Dave, like I am. Ok, I'll bite...Whats the odd number leuver thing all about?
No, not painted yet, but very soon. We have 4 days off of work next week and will hopefully finish what little bodywork is left then and squirt it with a little paint. I think we're gonna paint it a flat gunmetal gray (like the frame). A couple gallons of gunmetal gray mixed with some talcum power to flatten it out. It's gonna be so badass  :toocool:  :toocool:Quote:

That is a great start to great paint eh GeeTee, feel free to butt in here anytime about your build. Sounds like the old girl is pretty solid, keep us updated.
The gunmetal is going to look very very cool Peiceofpaper, your going to have a really bitchin' ride brother. I would love to hear that baby run!
Dave still ain't talkin' about odd and even leuvers yet.
Well, getting things together on the Merc. All the wiring is ran and about 90% connected. I really like the way the smaller back window changed the look of the back of the car and cleaned up the roof line. Today I fabbed a fan shroud, got to fire up the tig and make it a one piece now, not much left under the hood except to install the senders for the gauges.....As soon as we decide for sure which gauges to put in it. Dakota Digital makes an all in one that would fit where the original speedometer went in the Merc.
Also got the front suspension rebuilt, new brake pads, turned the rotors, etc. Coming along fairly well This one next month will be taking a trip (via trailer) to a company we have been negotiating with on building the bodies.... See what they think of it and what kind of deal we can make with them... After that the car will be ready for paint and for sale. (Well, after a few test cruises it will be for sale)
That LQQKs cool Dave. Can't wait to see it on the road.
Me too!!! This one has been nothing but a battle since day one, sure is good to finally make a bit of progress and at least be able to see the end of the project..... Anymore, if I get a solid 4 hours of PRODUCTIVE shop time in a day, I consider it a good day.... Getting old ain't for sissies!!!!!
Dave is the entire body fiberglass??? Floors Doors ??
Yup, everything is glass.... Lots of steel reinforcement, some carbon fiber matting and other high strenth matting. It's a solid car, you should see the knot on my head where I walked into the deck lid yesterday!!!!!!!!
I'm realy close now all glass in most of interior done. Need to finish rear bumper. I saved ( per some peoples sugestion) the HAPPY HOOT"S sticker I found on the tailgaet under several layers of paint. Just need to know if I should put clear on it or leave it as is?????
I like it cffisher. Ir's gonna be a head turner. :toocool:
I like it. Nice thing is you sure won't see many like it at any show you go to.
Great car.
Don
A friend of mine dropped off a set of heads & a block after I mentioned I would like to replace the foam mock up block & heads on the "Z". The foam just isn't strong enough to hold the headers solid. So, Today he shows up with a block & set of heads. :toocool: :toocool: :toocool: Thanks to Lou & Billy for helpin' me out.
Lookin' good Pro. Getting the real weight in the car helps anyway.... So ya been sitting in it and test driving since the last header bolt went it, right?
Nope, I've been managin' to bypass the "V-A-R-O-O-M" tempation so far.
Come on Pro, you're among friends.......Not even 1 "practice pass" in the Maro yet???????:D :D :DQuote:

Body shop report: Everything ihas been properly alligned, rear fenders are almost done. Most of the car is block sanded and ready for one more blocking and its paint time. It's going to be weird to not see her in primer.:p
LQQKin' good Brick. I mighta' missed it earlier but, what color are ya' paintin' it?
Thanks ProZ, 2 tone blue both chrysler colors, "Intense Blue Pearlcoat" and "Atlantigue Blue." Maybe a silver and yellow (Or something) color stripe seperating the 2 colors. The painter has a few ideas there, man it's seems like it's been a long time coming guys.
I am a carpenter and if we could make them out of wood I would have both finished by now .
Been done! The body anyway.....Quote:
