I may have mounted the motor too low, I was hoping to be able to run a stock 4 blade fan but the smallest one I have found still barely clears my bottom hose bib on the radiator(By about 1/16").
Have any of you used a 13" fan on a sbc?

now I got to say that's one problem I've never had. to much trouble to move back up I guess. with a motor that's easy to cool and a good rad. i think it will work. you can all ways get the radiator shop to move the hoses outlet around to give you a little more room. do you have a cross-flow rad.?
Hey Lt1, no it's the original stock radiator but it is big. I measured the fan I have been trying to use and it is a 17" fan off of a monte carlo. I ordered a 15" flex fan from speedway, I am hoping that an 1 1/16" will be enough clearance. do you think the motor will move more than that?
I have to build a mount for my tranny oil cooler now, I found out I had it too far out in front of the radiator. Good chance it wouldn't have drawn any air from the fan sitting still. So I am putting it right in front of the radiator. Wiring for engine compartment is almost done, soldering and shrink wrapping all the wires, I love the way that looks.:D
motor shouldnt move that much. when you finish your wiring you can come on down and help me do mine like it ought to be. :whacked:Quote:

Hey I would love too my man, anytime!:D ;) How far out of everywhere are you?:D Hehehehe! You know it takes more time to solder everything and I am sure my job isn't perfect, but if everything works I will figure I did ok.

There's the answer. I wouldn't compromise on the fan size.
you cant get here from there. you can come on down if you like im just off of the BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY not far from roanoke, va. i have over 100 wires that i need to solder.
Nice work gents.
I finally got my 454 running on a regular basis and she is a handful. You better be strapped in and holdin' on when The pedal is dropped.

Ok, now you have me worried Tech. I was thinking of using a 6 bladed flex fan, a 15". I am hoping that it will work, if not I will have them move the bib over. Right now I am concentrating on getting everything together to make it to our show here in June. I guess I will know as soon as the motor gets warm if it is going to work or not. Good to see you Tech by the way.
To far I'm afraid LT, but you can do it like I am, one wire at a time. It takes forever it seems like.
Nice engine and car Jughead, I bet that girl flys! Welcome aboard.:D
Well a few weeks ago as I was rummaging around the shop I found a piece of 1.25" tubing laying in the corner. After looking at the end, I said to myself ............ self......... that doesn't look very thick. I miced it and sure enough it was .090'' (Should be better than .118''). Well, ever since that day I've been wondering where the rest of that stick of 1.25" tubing was??? Today it finally got the best of me so i got out the die grinder and started cutting tack welds one at a time. I marked each tube O.K. as I went through and check them with the micrometer and re-tacked them in place.
I found 1. One of the helmet guards on the funny car cage was .090''. That's just an 8'' or 10'' piece though so I still don't know where the rest of it went. I DO KNOW it's not in the car now though so I don't really care where the rest is anymore. Only took a couple hours to check em' and re-tack 'em. Would have only taken a few seconds to mic. the tubes B-4 I used 'em. .....  .............Oh well, Live & Learn.
:) :)

I have had those type of days pro70, I would like to say I haven't but I would be lying.:D At least it was a pretty quick fix, could have been worse.
I have the car full of water and everything is working well, new fan is functioning perfectly, It was leaking around the radiator cap so a new cap is in order. I put the dash in primered today so I can install and hook up the gauges. Everything fit well in to the dash even though I noticed that one of the holes was crooked, can you tell which one? So tomorrow there will be some grinding going on to fix that gauge.
I 'd say the one on the far left. Do I get a prize or just honorable mention??
I'll probly' pay for it tomorrow but I played hooky this weekend and worked on the floor bracing. Everything is tacked in now except the trans. cross member and a few gussets.

now you know. you must have been using a level and sitting in the drivers seat, making the car lean left when you marked the holes . you need to heat the springs on the lift side, that will drop it down.
:HMMM:
just joking brickman, looks like i might of did that.
Just jack up the right side of the garage.   :LOL:Quote:

Kewl. Now the dash is virtually done.
i forgot the most important thing.
HAHAHAHAHA!! Very good work Guys!! I like the gauges looking Kewl!!!:D
Of Course the Fuzzy dice make it work!:D
I was personaly thinking of just putting a riser under one side of the drivers seat! It sure looks different than it did when I first brought her home a year and a half ago.
Nice work on the floor Pro70, how much more of that tubing goes in there anyway?
that will work to. **)Quote:

I pulled out on the st. behind my shop in Richmond late one night, had just put 2 new carb. on my blown 454 el comina, just testing some things and there was cars lined up on both sides of the st. so it wasn't room enough to get up any speed much, but I had to try it. when i went WOT the accel. hung wide open to my surprise, so there I was 600 HP, hung WOT carbs. on a narrow st. smoking the tires off and flying up the st., and didn't know what to do, but i had sense enough to cut the key off(and not lock the steering wheel) before I killed some one, and as soon as i stopped the accel. was not hung any more. so i went back to the shop and changed the angle of the carb. springs and made them a little tighter and like a dumb ass went back to the same spot and did the same thing again. couldn't believe it. that's when I found out if the carb. springs is not stiff enough and pulling at the proper angle a blower will pull the carb. WO when you get the accel. to about 50%. so pro put EFI on it and you want have to worry about that. the springs would have worked fine on just a 2 carb. set-up.
I'm gettin' a mental picture of U dloin' that.... HEHEHE...........
Problee' wasn't so funny @ the time tho HUH???
Dang Mike!!! Sure as heck wish someone would have been there with a video camera, I would certainly have bought a copy of that!!!!! Kinda like it was so dang scary, you just had to try it again???? Yup, I can relate.....
i assure you that was not the case. if i had of lost it, i dont know how much damage it would have done before it stopped. i could write a book about me and my blowers. it will break that camero in half pro and keep on going. have you drove anything that has 1/2 the power of what you got there pro? it is a big block right? it will get your attention quick. :whacked: **) **)Quote:

Yea, I have. 1/2 the power is purdy' close. My old 40 Chevy Panel Truck had a 600 H.P. 454. It weighed about 3200 lbs. I have a feeling the camaro won't be anything like the panel tho. HEHEHE:3dSMILE: I'll be sure to buy a box of depends B4 the maiden voyage. :p :p :pQuote:

:3dSMILE: :3dSMILE: GONE............ :whacked: HEHEHEHE
you need more like a commode for the drivers seat.
i dont belive there will be any compairson there. might but i dont think so.
Horsepower to weight is simple physics. Hi horsepower to very light weight is wicked, wicked FUN !!!!! Granted, this was a couple decades back, but our last sprinter was 1,560 lbs and 682 (dyno'd) horsepower. It was a blast!! To have that same horsepower to weight ratio on the street is almost obscene!!!! (But then a lot of the things I like are either obscene or illegal)
did you say obscene or illegal? thats that? in my case its to sweet or to much salt. ive got over the rest of that stuff.
I talked to a guy a while back that went from 500 h.p. to 800 h.p. He said he couldn't believe the difference. It's been so many years since I drove that panel truck, I've purdy' much forgot how fast it was. I do remember you best have it pointed str8 B4 you punch it or it would B sidways B4 U got your foot back out of it.  :LOL:Quote:
