hey there. I`m currently still working on chopping the top on the 50 merc, it`s my first chop ever, so i`m taking my time on it, plus it`s a four door , and the previous owner welded the rear doors shut, so i`m having trouble making the rear windows look ok. Then i get to put the stearing back together, was`nt safe enough for my liking. Hopefully i`ll be able to drive it soon
Dave, your going to mess around and finish the ranchero if your not careful! Looking good.
Got any pic's of the merc hotroddaddy?
I love the roadster pickup northcarolinada, and the color too. It's great to see it going down the road, that is such a rush.
I'm heading out now to put a new cooling fan on my car, I'm still fighting overheating in traffic. I hope that this does the trick, part of the problem I am afraid is that I may have set the engine too low in the car.
thanks Brickman....it was a rush!!! hard as heck to keep your foot out of it too!!
i was very happy brake system works very well and suspension was good too..
Brakes are always a good thing northcarolinada, I am still nervous driving my car but I think it is going to be alright. I have almost 400 miles on her and she hasn't copped an additude yet.:D
I got the new cooling fan installed today and working good. I will test it tomorrow and see if I gained any. I scored a set of tinted windshield glass for her today too, looking forward to a new windshield, I'm still running the original '48 glass in her.
Shouldn't be too much longer. Maybe even sometime next week.

It's lookin' good, Pro. Anxious to hear what it runs now!!! Should be a flyer.
You and me both Dave. If everything does what it's supposed to, it should be at the bottom of the 7's on the motor. What it will do with both stages added to it........ unknown.
Looking good pro60, 7's are awesome! I hope that we will be able to enjoy some more video in the future, nice job and a big "Well Done".:D

Sure beats diggin' with a shovel.:o
I am currently working on a 51 Merc for a friends son while he's in Iraq, last year we set it on an 83 olds frame, this year he got sent back,so we mounted his 472 cad engine in place, cut down a set of patriot headers and fitted them into a set of cad flanges, mounted the Olds steering column and brake master+pedal assembly to the firewall. Instead of stretching the roof when he chopped it,we took 5 inches out of the rest and now it's a 113 in. wheelbase. Unfortunately now we have to take 5 in. out of the back doors. I was thinking of cutting out the center post and attaching it right to the back door and installing some kind of latch assembly to it. Any body tried this and can steer me to clean and simple latch system for this?
Heres a few pics of my 47 Ford going from grey and some other colors to DP90 semi gloss black. After the winter Im gonna have the body bead blasted, and do it right, but this should last through the winter.
More masking...
...
My first time shooting anything besides cheap grey primer!
Next week, retrofit original factory bench seat...
Looks good Chad, it should winter well.
Nice work so far ChadS, all though they are a little dark on my screen, the car is looking good.
Ok, I have a question for you guys.........
I got my car hot at the Branson "Shepard of the Hill's" show a few weeks back, I mean she hit 260 and was starting to spit water out bad. I managed to get it off to the side of the road which if you have ever been there for that event you know that the burn out freaks make it hard to pull off the strip. I let it cool and re-filled the water and cruized on. Ever since I have replaced the small 13" fan and shroud with an 18" electric, had the radiator rebuilt, added a recovery tank and new hose's. It runs 190' perfect but it still spits out water, any ideas guys?
do you have a cross flow rad. or top to bottom? if its cross flow its gonna spit some water out, but a overflow tank and the right cap should suck it back in when needed. if its spiting it out and no way of getting it back then its gonna run hot again . what lb. cap are you using? its sounds like you have a cross flow rad. that the recovery system is not working on.
Hey Brickman, after it got so warm maybe the cap is junk. Might want to check it out on a pressure tester....
It is the stock '48 trickle radiator that has been rodded out and tanked. I haven't thought about the cap, I'll have it checked. Does the overflow tank half to be the same height as the radiator? Right now I have it mounted down on the inner fender, once it blows out about half a gallon it seems to let up some. Maybe I should have gotten a bigger overflow tank?
brickman, be sure you have a good cap like dave said, and a good over flow tank, but the old old style rad. like yours should not push that much water out like the cross flow does. nothing should blow out a 1/2 gal. i think you got some other problems. on your rad. the overflow tank dont do anything but catch a little overflow sometimes so it dont make no dif where you put it. a overflow tank and a recovery tank are 2 dif. things. the overflow recovery system has a dif. rad. cap and the pick up tube needs to be below the water in the tank. if you car temp is staying at 180 degrees and you have a good 15 lb. cap it shouldnt blow out any water. on most cross flows the water flow is pushing against the cap, and they run 225 degrees so its made to blow out some water.
You where right guys, I had the cap checked out and not only was it warn-out but the wrong cap all together!:D I went to the proper car for that radiator that happened to be a "4" lb. cap but fits down in the radiator properly and all the overflow stopped. It is now running a constent 190 with no variation and no leaks. Tomorrow I am taking her to a show in Cotter Ark so we will see. Once again you guys have come through for me, thanks a bunch fella's.
Good to hear it Brickman, now you can get back to the important business of cruizin!!!
Thanks Dave and cruise I did! The wife and I went down to the Cotter Ark show with our club and we received the "Judges Choice" award and a "Top Forty" award out of 80 cars! We then went to a super cruise sponserd by one of our local clubs and received a 1st place trophy in the "Under Construction" class. So my wife and I are very very proud of our old chevy, she has trophied everytime we have taken her out so far. You know what though, trophys are nice but the real reward is to be able to join 20 of our clubmates and cruise in a group to the shows. That is where the fun is for me, I love it!:D
Yup, the cruizin is the best part!!! We are allready beginning to plan a "cruize" of at least 6 of us from the roadster club to Los Angeles for the Fathers Day LA Roadsters get together in 2007!!! Should be a blast!!!
Been getting some work done on Bill's Firebird also. Fenders and fenderwells are back on. The car is starting to look like something now. Bill likes it, anyhow!!!
Now that would be a great event to go to thats for sure, fantastic! I would love to have a roadster to cruise in, I am looking for a Orig. body now. I have a frame that I got out of a field that has a firewall with a "Fisher" emblem on it and it still had the step pad for the rumble seat on it. They are the embodiment of hot rodding to me.
I finally talked a friend of mine out of his steel T Coupe and will be converting it to a roadster body and putting it on a Deuce frame. I think it's the project I've been saving my last Cobra Jet FE engine and trans for!!! Should get going on it this winter. So far I have the frame rails set in the jig and the top taken off the body. Now all I need is more time and money!!!!!
took a pic today, got a long ways to go on this one!!!!!
Dave yes a long way to go, but it will be sweet Im sure when your done.
