Don, you got the the combination of chop/stretch so right that almost nobody will notice the sublties, though those familiar with the AD trucks will stare and wonder. Just as it should be. I love it!

Thanks Bob, That means a lot comming from you.

35Fordcoupe - Nice bumper, and I too like the custom lights!
Don - Very nice job on the GMC truck. Post a video if you can!
Hey Don, the truck came out great!!!! Proportions are absolutely perfect!!!!
Don,that is a great looking truck..Very sneaky in fact....I LOVE sneaky..
Finally got a little color on my dash tonight. A little more high build primer on a few spots and I should be good to paint the rest.
Thanks for all the wonderfull comments.....At the age of 72 I needed that.
Don
Don, you youngs guys never sease to amaze me, very nice truck, Beautiful! I am loving the caddy fins!
Mr.Smith that dash is beautiful, and I like the cluster around the steering column, are the other holes going to be a/c ducs?
Got some color on last night. Started spraying the color about 5pm and finished the clear at 2am. I don't have enough lighting in my shop to get a nice flow on the clear but after some polishing it will be okay. I love the color but I am not sure if it is the right color for this car. Won't know until I get it together and roll it outside I think. It is nice to have that part behind me though.
I'm not a big fan of red, but that shade sure looks pretty. That ought to be killer in the sun.
Looks great to me!
same here. love the color.
Yeah, thats in ya face..:cool: Will stand out in the crowd...Nice.
I was going to paint it two tone with an orange metallic on top and off white on the bottom but then I seen this color on a 2009 charger and figured since I am running a Hemi it would be a good fit. When I get the black running boards and grill on it should look a little better. The pics of course don't really show the true color.
Sorry didn't see all the other replies. Thanks everyone!
I like the red, although normally I don`t don`t fiqure, anyways real nice...
Yeah I suppose it is a harmless addiction.
Thanks 406Rich. I am actually liking it more and more. Having all the pearl in it definitely makes it a unique red. I think I like it more when the light isn't shining on it then when it is but knowing me that may change as well.
I took therapy for years to break myself of that red addiction. I faltered when I painted my car, but was able to get an emergency treatmenthttp://planetsmilies.net/happy-smiley-65.gif.
Great color - now the real fun is coming cut 'n' buff:o
Yes it will be black along with the running boards and fender welt. The Charger I seen had some black accents and I really liked them. If I decide I don't I can always paint the grill later.
I was looking at my pics and this one actually shows how the light changes the color. If you look at the body you can see how much darker it looks without a lot of light. So the black will go good with it I think.
Of course, it's your car and you can do it however you want. For me, there is nothing about the shape or design of the 36 Ford grill that says, "Paint me black" unless the rest of the car is black. In fact I think the 36 Ford grill looks a little weird when completely chromed. The shape of it seems like a continuation of the fenders & hood and the color change disrupts the flow of the body lines. I do like the chrome trim on a body-colored grill though. I think the black running boards will be great and practical if they are black rubber. Again, I think you're doing great work on the car. We all have different tastes and opinions on the details and I certainly don't mean to be offensive with mine. There are many things that look good on a new Charger that won't look good on a 36 Ford. Looking forward to seeing the completed car! ;-)
When I first read the part about a black grille my brain assumed you meant it in the usual way a '36 is done. Then the exchange between you and Randy made me pull up. I'll put up a pic just so others can follow what's meant in the commentary. Personally I'd recommend you paint the portion of the grille assembly outside the stainless trim the same color as the rest of the car. Doing the portion inside the trim in black should look great. Doing the whole assembly in black will give you too large a mass of the contrasting color (part of why the chrome ones don't look so good), plus the squared corners at the back edge will be very disruptive to the eye as there aren't any other square lines on the body.
Well I lost my Dad last year so I needed somebody to keep me in line.lol thanks guys
I think Bob did great on his grill. Body color looks a little too 80's and chrome (and all black) doesn't work for reasons already mentioned. Then again I can't pick out anything I don't like on Bob's coupe :).
Bob - I have been eyeing the '36 hood sides and your close up shot confirms I like them much more than the '35. Am I correct in assuming that the 35 and 36 hood sides are not interchangeable because of the different grills? 35 sides are probably longer??
Good observation on "that '80s thing", funny how some folks miss that.
I'm not as familiar with '35s, but yes, the side panel is longer, and may be different at the top hinge and in the contour over the fender. As for liking the '36 better it would be a matter of what it is you think you prefer about it. The louver portion is probably a bit longer on the '35, but looks to be pretty much visually the same general configuration. The primary difference is the trim count, 4 on the '35, 3 on the '36. They hang over each end farther on the '36 but that may be due to that length of louver area thing. You might gain the look you want by eliminating one of the '35 trim pieces and dropping the middle one down equidistant between the remaining two. It would mean filling a bunch of little holes on each side though.
I do like the 3 trim pieces versus the cluttered 4 on the 35, but mostly I have noticed that the louvers on the '36 are flush in the panel where as on the '35 they are raised from the side panel. Hard to explain what I mean, but I googled this picture to try and show it. Certainly I could cut up '36 side panels and use the louvers in mine, but I would probably not go through all that.

You COULD just purchase a pair of plain hood sides from Rootleib and cut 'n' trim 'n' paste to your hearts content. After I damaged my first pair of hood sides for my 'A' I ordered up another set with no holes, brackets, louvers, etc and will eventually come up with something I like - or they might just stay plain:eek:.
