That is look good Pro. Can I ask please, can you tell and show us how you stamped the Camaro into the panel as it is so sharp and was it done at home in your workshop and I havn't notice all your presses etc.??? In a way it will be a shame that alot of people don't notice those small details when looking under the bonnet (hood) of cars at a show and it is those sort of details that make a car such an outstanding example from another Camaro. Keep the excellent workmanship up Pro because what you have accomplished so far is awe inspirng.

Pro: I am also extremely interested in how you press a part. I have assumed from some earlier posts that you create a male and female plate and then squish them. I can only assume that your explanation, maybe with some additional pictures, would be far more educational. Please and thank you.

Here's the readers digest version of a stamp. I made an impression in the firewall for the throttle cable. Pretty simple stamp but the procedure is similar to the Camaro stamp.

I drilled a hole in the firewall panel for the throttle cable. I cut dies out of 1/8" sign substrate scraps, any rigid material will work. On the front side I taped the larger die to the panel using the 5/16'' hole to register it.

on the back side / the circle die. Line up the holes & tape in place.

For this stamp I used some scrap aluminum plugs on both sides of the panel.

After being pressed you can (maybe) see the panel has been pressed up into the top die. The camaro took a fair amount of pressure. this stamp, not so much. I was careful to not use too much pressure as to not distort the panel.

I'll make an aluminum trim washer on the lathe later. That's all there is to it.

Little up date waiting on stuff for the 31 , so I spent my attention to the final coats of plastic for the 67 . Wasn't very much left but I didn't look at it while my eyes where on the 31 .:) The hood came off a race car that 4 hood pins . I welded in a patch for the rear one's and smoothed them out , and work the new door skin from the hem work . Hope tpo have it in color within the next month . This is the last besides the blocking it down some more.


I have estimators coming out for another garage to be built . Kinda a 1 car shop since septic and easement get in my way . I am planning a 16 x 32 should be plenty for the one car work I am planning on .

:LOL:I'm here Bobby!!! Deep in the middle of about 3 builds!!! Walking through the garage right now is like running an obstacle course!!!! Thanks for the compliment, but I'm certainly no master body man, just an (old, beat up, high mileage) Hot Rodder that keeps pluggin' along! I gotta quit looking at them brand new '67 Fastbacks that Dynacorn sells!!!! Hood is looking good BTW, all that long flat sheet metal can sure be a time consuming affair to get flat!!!!

Like a fool, added a couple more project cars to the unfinished fleet... Interesting stuff, I'll get some pics up when I get the shuffling done!

Well Dave your pluggin away is ahead of me yet . Yeah the flat hood does give a pain I heat shrunk it to tighten it up so as not to oil can . But just the weight of the jitter bug can bounce it .

Pro has had classes in patience and measurement 104 for sure . Amazed my self at the great pipe work he does.

For the oil can affect, I've tried one of those metal shrinking disc with good results! It's tightens up the metal to keep it from shuttering all the time, pretty cheap to, the disc mounted to my 7" buffer. For 40 bucks might be usefull! Both your projects look great guys. Steve.

16x32 contracted and signed in at $11.500 heavy duty build also .

Here's some new pics of my '35 coupe. I hadn't seen the front fenders on in about 4 years so that was exciting seeing how it sat with the Heidts IFS. Also, it fired for the first time this weekend :D. It's coming along..brake lines are almost done and I'll have to finish up the radiator hoses and get a fan/shroud. We had it with Charlie Thacker in Louisa, VA for a while (he has done most of the good work, my dad and I have done the amateur work :HMMM:), but despite the great work he has done for us the plan has always been to do a lot of our own work so it's time for us to do some things and finish up getting it road worthy. :toocool:

Just about have the metal work done on my 36 ford slantback so I can start slinging some mud. I am in the middle of installing Hagen hidden hinges. Put in the Hagen fuel filler door the other day. Next I will put in the frenched license plate box. And the list goes on from there. that is a nice looking 35ford coupe in the previous post.

Thanks a lot guys it's been a long 4 years and nice to finally hear it run. It's been a long 50+ years for my dad though :eek:. This is probably the nicest it's been in that time :HMMM:. You can kind of see the sunroof in the second pic. it's from a 98 VW..it came out real nice. most times when you see a newer sunroof in a hot rod it looks like a flat panel in a curved roof, but Charlie did a great job making it flow. The car is a bit further from stock than we set out to build, but its been fun! :cool:

I really like your tail lights, not to mention the rest of the car. I really like the look of '35 coupes.

Thanks again guys. I really like the way the tail lights came out too. I think the flush in the fender idea was my dad's then we just had to decide how long so I made a couple paper templates. I think it fits the fender well and takes up some of the massive back end of the car. Same goes for the lisense plate...we were trying to fill up some of that blank canvas in the back. That trunk handle hole will likely be filled so we needed something back there and it gave us a good place for the fuel filler.

Also, we're planning on a '37 front bumper on the back of the car (it will wrap around the fenders a bit, but it follows almost exactly the same curve as the fender). We're going to try and pull it in as close as possible by modifying the stock '35 brackets. I have an old rusty bumper to mock it up then we'll probably get a new one unless we decide to smooth it out and eliminate the bolt heads. We aren't sure what to do on the front yet though. I'm ok with nothing, but my dad wants some kind of nerf bar at least, probably not a bumper though (that would be hard to pull off with the '37 bumper on the back).

You may want to look at these bumpers for your 35 coupe http://www.legenshotrod.com/images/LegensCatalog.pdf If I would have found them before I ordered my bumpers I would have went with them on my 36. If you want to tighten up your original bumper brackets you can order them already done in either plane steel or stainless from a few places. Midwest early ford for one. not sure how they would work with a 37 bumper.

I saw an ad for them in street rodder a couple weeks ago and looked at the website, but that rear bumper is over $1700..that's a bit steep. I'd rather modify the brackets and pay Bob Drake a few hundred for the '37 bumper. I'm not a fan of the cover they have over the brackets either...I'm not sure how to explain it. They do make shorty brackets, but like you mentioned I don't think the stock 35 brackets will match up to the 37 bumper so either way it would require modification. Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate it!

After I sent you the link I looked at the price and I would have to agree that is a little steep. I have seen some covers people have made that just cover the brackets that I like better as well. I got the shorty stainless so I am going to leave mine open. Besides after spending a year fabricating everything from the frame to the dash a guy has to say enough is enough.

Hell a year isn't bad, but I can understand the itch to move on from fabrication in order to get closer to cruisin'. Do you have some bigger pics of your '36 Mr. Smith?

One fabrication always seems to lead to another. Like these hidden hinges I am installing. I have to change the fenders a little because the pivot point is different on the hinge swing so now my door hits the fender about 2" before it stops. I wasn't expecting that.

Two comments to help you with photo navigation on this site.

First, instead of attaching a link to your gallery as you did, you could also just click the camera looking icon under your screen name on the post, it will take you or anyone else to your gallery.

Second, since you figured out how to post to the gallery you can also post to a thread entry similarly. Perhaps you are replying to thread posts by posting in the "quick reply" box. In order to get the photo attachment feature you need to click the "post reply" radio button at the left below the last post (also at the top left of the thread). That will have a box for "manage attachments" that will open a window similar to the one you used in the gallery.

Looking good Mr. Smith. It looks like you have a lot of newer Ford parts involved there including what looks to be a 5.0, correct? column, seats, console even an Explorer frame? It definately looks like you have some hours in fabrication there too.

Looky there Bob I did it. That is a dang nice coupe you have as well. I took a quick glance at your gallery. Are all those cars yours?

Actually 35 coupe the motor is a 5.7 Hemi and the column is out of about a 2003 chevy cavalier and the front seats are from a Kia and back seat is out of the ford explorer that I built the frame from. The steering column is out of a 88 mustang I believe.

All the pictures in my gallery except the cartoon and the picture of Dan's Z'd frame have been or are mine. They date back about 25 years or so for the oldest. Before then I wasn't very good about taking pictures. It's a disease.

BTW, I agree with Dave about the block thing, a lot of people have gotten away with it, but it's pretty iffy.

Well I now what I will be doing on my next trip to my garage. I will be taking out those blocks. Thanks for the information!
So you have been at this for a while then Bob. I built my first car at 16 but without any guidance I took a lot of short cuts that make me laugh now.It was a 53 Ford Fairlane Anniversary that I ended up rolling at 80MPH on the way to Arizona. I have never seen another car with the same chrome trim that it had. I have cleaned up and painted a lot of other cars since then but have never done anything as extensive as I am doing with this car. I doubt I will ever do another one either.Too much of a commitment of time and money.

Good choice on the blocks; we had a similar instance as Dave's friend down the street from us when I was a kid. The guy lived but it fractured his skull and crushed his collarbone. He was trapped under the car for several hours until someone came home. That sure is a beautiful body on your car; how long have you been working on it?

Thanks falconvan. I bought the car about 7 years ago. I didn't do much more than tear it down the first year. Then I took a couple of years off and it was just hit and miss on it until about a year ago I decided it was time to get serious about it. Since then I have been averaging about 5 hours a day on it.

Starting to do the final mock up on the Plymouth...finally getting all the boo-boo's repaired that another shop did...bad case of 3 steps back for every step forward!!!!! Oh well, things are starting to go together finally!

Pretty impressive looking Dave. What year is your Plymouth? And What is the Hemi out of? Are you going to keep it Fuel injected?

Thanks for the kind words Mark! This engine is from an '05 2WD pickup and will keep all the electronics. The car is a '36 sedan. Very nice body with minimal damage and rust! A few more boo-boo's to fix, then I should be back on the body for a couple rounds of blocking and on to the paint!

Next project coming in is a '27 Ford roadster (glass) on Deuce rails...It too will be getting the new Hemi and AOD trans!

Dave did you have to move your firewall back to install that Hemi? I think those Dodges and Plymouths have a little more room than the fords do. Who are you getting your engine harness from? I got mine from Street And Performance. Actually they haven't delivered it yet and I ordered it about 5 weeks ago.
