When I first read the part about a black grille my brain assumed you meant it in the usual way a '36 is done. Then the exchange between you and Randy made me pull up. I'll put up a pic just so others can follow what's meant in the commentary. Personally I'd recommend you paint the portion of the grille assembly outside the stainless trim the same color as the rest of the car. Doing the portion inside the trim in black should look great. Doing the whole assembly in black will give you too large a mass of the contrasting color (part of why the chrome ones don't look so good), plus the squared corners at the back edge will be very disruptive to the eye as there aren't any other square lines on the body.

Thanks for further expressing my point, Bob. From the pic in his avatar, it looks like he's planning to have the whole grill painted black as opposed to the way you described. That's why I brought it up.

Good points Bob. I have been going back and forth on painting the whole (grille) lol or just the bars. It definitely looks better the whey you did yours but it is sooo much easier to just paint the whole thing black. lol

Seriously, Mr Smith?? After all the extensive and labor intensive mods you've made to frame & body of this car and you're going to get lazy about masking off the grill to paint it right?? LOL!! Come on, dude, the grill is no place to take short cuts! LOL!
