I'm not as familiar with '35s, but yes, the side panel is longer, and may be different at the top hinge and in the contour over the fender. As for liking the '36 better it would be a matter of what it is you think you prefer about it. The louver portion is probably a bit longer on the '35, but looks to be pretty much visually the same general configuration. The primary difference is the trim count, 4 on the '35, 3 on the '36. They hang over each end farther on the '36 but that may be due to that length of louver area thing. You might gain the look you want by eliminating one of the '35 trim pieces and dropping the middle one down equidistant between the remaining two. It would mean filling a bunch of little holes on each side though.
I do like the 3 trim pieces versus the cluttered 4 on the 35, but mostly I have noticed that the louvers on the '36 are flush in the panel where as on the '35 they are raised from the side panel. Hard to explain what I mean, but I googled this picture to try and show it. Certainly I could cut up '36 side panels and use the louvers in mine, but I would probably not go through all that.
