Finally got the bottom of the body almost ready for the chassis, still a bit of work to do on the insides of the fenders and a few other spots. The Plymouth is going to be a driver, the owner wanted bedliner on the bottom so that's what he gets!!! Looks decent, though I prefer paint on my own cars, it does add a lot of durability to the bottom of the car!
I am very envious of you organized guys.
Dave we both did some floor work finally have the Stang floors in paint .

The ol' Horse is really coming along nicely Bobby, floors look great!!!!
Got the chassis almost ready on the Plymouth, have to paint the cowl and firewall on the body then bolt the body back on for the last time!!! I can almost see the end of this one, finally... Now if i could just find some time to work on my stuff!!!!!
Dave I found this the other day and thought you may be interested in seeing it.http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...structions.pdf
How is that stock oil pan working on the Plymouth. I have a mid sump on mine that I may have to change but all of these after market pans are so expensive. I missed out on a Charlies pan on ebay that sells for almost $400 and it went for $77.
no problems at all with the pan...engine is from a pickup so maybe that makes a difference.
Got the body back on the frame and starting to get some of the pieces put into place. Fuel tank and lines in the rear compartment, window track and motors, some insulation, etc. Finally starting to look like a car. Outside of the body will need one more coat of hi-build primer and some more blocking.
Looking good Dave. What do you have inside that door for insulation?
I have been wondering about door insulation. I was figuring on some of the sticky foil type stuff - dynamat, etc but I'm not sure how exactly to get it in the door, in place and stick it to the door all through the small acess holes without cutting the inside of the door . Dave, was that door cut?
Nope, didn't cut the door. Made a paper pattern, cut the insulation to match the pattern, applied some 3M spray weatherstrip adhesive, then worked it into place and rolled it down. Access wasn't easy, but with patience and planning it can be done--on this one anyway.. To put the insulation in place, I loosely folded it, then started in the lower front corner, then the rest of the front side, then unrolled it into the back half of the door... One instance where being a skinny old cripple actually helped!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Thanks Dave..I'll have to see if I can get some insulation on there before putting the windows back in and the inside of my door is much less accesable than that :HMMM:
Found a couple more pics of the Plymouth. These were taken about 2 weeks ago before I put the body on or installed the rear end. It does show the 2 colors that will be on the outside of the body.
Looks good. Are you going to get it running before you paint it?
Yeah, he's got some kind of tuner deal for it...don't think it's a Diablo.... Freeing up the air intake, headers, and some changes in the computer brought it up to almost 400hp, don't reacall the torque numbers... Russ, the guy that made the engine harness and did the ECM sez there's another 25hp in the tune up of the ECM if it's needed....:LOL:This electronic stuff amazes me a bit more every day!!! I was looking at the Arrington Heads, cam and MAF, how about 100+ more hp?????
Dave, the technology is pretty amazing. My father in law has a newer GMC diesel dually and he has a programmer that kicks it up something like 75 hp from stock with no add ons. The cars looking great!
I think Diablo says you can get around 30 to 40 hp with theirs. I bought this induction system for mine http://www.xvmotorsports.com/product...X%2FRAM%2FJeep They haven't tested it to see what gains it does by itself but told me when one customer added to his SR8 he gained a second in the 1/4 mile. He also had a turbo installed. I mainly bought it because it looks so much better then the stock manifold and about a third the price of other manifold kits. They also have other kits to pump up the hp quite a bit but I don't need that kind of temptation at my foot.
That is pretty impressive though Dave that you got a 55 hp gain from those few things that you have done.
yeah, I was amazed when they told me what it did on the dyno!!!! Headers aren't really any full race, equal length tubes or anything, just a basic header with decent sized tubes and a good collector... The next hemi project is on the chassis table now awaiting it's turn, the owner is considering some of the other performance upgrades that are available for the 5.7!!!!
blocking, blocking, blocking.... Then later tomorrow one more coat of hi-build and more blocking on the '36 Plymouth. Started mocking up some pieces on the roadster, too. Hey, got to have something to do when the primer is drying!!!!!! Walt (the owner of the '36) stopped by for awhile on Friday. He's located a shifter he likes, not much choice I guess as there's not many companies making a shifter for this trans as it is only offered in the pickups... Did a bit more massaging on door gaps, made the rods for the inside door release, and a few other little details. Slowly, the finish line is approaching!
wow dave you have been busy.
Dave I am curious what he went with for a shifter. I just picked up a console out of a cavalier and hope to make it work. When I was looking at after market ones I think I could only find Lokar as having made one and I didn't want to pay their price. I thought these were suppose to be 5 speed transmissions but mine only clicks in 3 gears. Do you know if 4th and 5th gears are shifted electronically?
About ready to finish up engine!

Electronic shift on the other 2, I believe... Walt talked to the people and their catalog is enroute. I'll let you know details and price when it gets here. As for the Lokars shifters...tried them, don't like them at all!!!! This is supposed to be a high quality cable shifter, I'll know more when the books get here....
Dave I was looking at your fuel tank set up. Where did you run your vent line to? Did you use braided flex fuel line all the way through?
The vent line comes down through the floor, then exits along the frame rail to the rt. rear corner of the body, I will also put a filter on the end of the line to keep the dirt and dust out of the system. The rest of the fuel line are either 1/2" tubing or flex hose as required. The return line is 3/8".... Wont' need all that capacity for this engine, but Walt is already considering a stroker kit and upgrading the heads, cam, and MAF after a summer of cruizin' with the stock 5.7.
Took the body off for what should be the last time. I will paint the frame next week and a friend pointed out that now would be a good time to hang the exhaust. When someone is right you may as well go with it. So I ordered some magnaflow mufflers and some 2.5 inch tubing. Then some more 2.5 90 degree pieces. With the car being low and the trany so wide I need to run both exhaust down the passenger side. The master cylinder takes up that area on the drivers side.
That is why I had to order so many 90's. Seven to be exact.
Got the brackets built for the tank. Chiseled performance did an excellent job putting the tank together and at a very good price. I just sent him the drawings with measurements and he did the rest. Sense I am using an 02 explorer frame under my 36 a tank off the shelf wasn't going to work.
Progress is always such a great thing!!! Had the body off and on Walt's so many times that by the time it went on for keeps I think I could have done it blindfolded!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Shot the 2nd session of Hi-Build on the Plymouth Friday afternoon, be back to blocking on it Monday morning! Should get rid of the last of the little dings and things this time around and maybe be ready for paint soon!!!!
Spent a bit of time mocking up the new project in the shop today, maybe finish up the motor mounts and click a couple pics of it tomorrow---or maybe just be a couch potato and watch the race at Homestead.......
cars are looking great guys.
Did a bit of work on the roadster today, started on the engine and trans mounts, mocked up the suspension to figure ride height and clearances and just generally made a bunch of entries on my build sheet... Gonna be a neat car, almost got me in the mood to have another roadster someday....
