Everybody that is currently building a car...

Robin, Dwight Bond originally built the '29 roadster body he marketed with the back portion of the body in pieces as the original. I don't recall if he went to the same effort on the cowl portion. I commend you for making those decisions.

I spent some time getting the rebuilt 97s on the '30 roadster earlier in the week. Though I remade new fuel lines to accomodate the vintage regulator, I stuck with the period typical copper material. Had it out to the SoCal Las Vegas open house yesterday and saw kennyd.

Carbs look good Bob, hope they run as good as they look!!! What was Kenny up to, getting ready for SEMA????

Yeah Dave, the carbs work pretty well, but I'm still tweaking the cold running end. With those high risers it takes awhile for the heat to get there, and this engine runs cool to start with. Once the engine temp gets to 150 or so she smooths out nicely.

Kenny brought the Good Guys '55 convert out for SEMA. and a few other things. He's spent more time growing the body shop business than working on customer cars this past year.

True??Banned cameras from SEMA?? I can understand cameras being banned from rock concerts,,but why SEMA??

The decision for doing the cowl like that,is because I like the detail of the early cowl,,plus,I have the option of selling the cowl only,to anyone who wants to build a woody,or any other configuration they might dream up..I have been lucky enough to borrow some good bits to tidy up and take moulds off..You guys might wonder at me taking moulds off a common body,,but down here,the stuff is getting increasingly harder to find in good condition,and the vintage guys usually dont want to let it out of their sight,,and while steel repro stuff is available in your country,some people down here dont want the hassle of importing it..Will keep you all in the loop..

I seldom remember to use my phone camera, but am surprised when I do, the quality is at least as decent as my wife's P&S Canon - and it's a bottom end Samsung

My temp. gauge finely got here for the Nova so I put that in.... Had to check for leaks and be sure it worked. Wish you guys could smell the shop!!!!! 110 octane sure makes me smile

Still building my 1957 GMC. It's been long over due to update my pics to the site so some of the work i completed a couple months ago are now up and available for viewing. The truck is a customizing project not a restore. But my design im working off that I came up with was to take past features I liked from previous model years and incorporating those features into the second series truck. Been alot of fun so far. My next step is building a new engine mount since the previous owner botched it on the one that came with the truck.

Those old Chebbies and Jimmies take well to customizing, OSK!!! I've seen some done with some very unusual themes for the build!!! A couple years back I did up a frame for a guy's '59 big window, seeing your's on here makes me want to go look him up and see how he's doing on it!!!!

yeah i had to put up my camaro for sale but thats ok, that money is gunna fund part of the 47' Caddy resto project i picked up a couple months back. Ive had a blast working on the GMC though it's been fun reworking parts from the 1st series run into the 2nd series line. Ive seen some customs done with the 2nd series trucks but for the most part its been paint, interior and some bags, although i have talked with a guy who only does cameo's and was talking to me about raising the lines of the rear to get the fenders to match the lines on the door. i thought it was a cool idea that his buddy pulled off but not sure im going to go that route.

Don't remember if I put up any pics of my old '71 since I got the seat put in, so here's a couple for you. Need to get the truck in the garage to finish up some little details, paint and install the tailgate, bed cap, and racer back fairing. Soon as it's done I'm putting the truck up for sale, maybe I can come up with some cash and a nice trade for it???

That is a mighty nice looking ride just the way it sits

I should of figured you'd have that taken care of! I also just noted the tinted glass in back and on the sides, nice touch too. I've bought the same set up for the 48 f1, just running clear in front.

Yeah, I like the dark glass. I put it in most everything these days. It'll for sure look good in the '48! Even if you have AC these big window pickups are like sitting in a sun room when you drive them!!!

Did some more of the grind and sand routine on the inside of the '57 today, then primed and painted the brackets for the puke tank and a bit of wiring on the Plymouth. Came inside early today, lots of good racing on the tube this weekend!!! Might do a bit more work tomorrow, or just kick back and watch the race in Texas!

This isn't car related & being old I don't remember if I posted about this before, but.....

I've been threatening to build & have had the materials for years, for this track loader scaffolding. I finally got a job where the sign hangs into a ditch, on soft farm ground, making a pain to set up & tear down scaffolding by hand. So, I took a day off & got it at least far enough done to do the install.

Now, not only is it easy to set up, just turn the key & run some levers, it's also much easier to load the deck on the ground rather than hoisting all that stuff up after the fact.

I have receivers under the deck so I can pick it from the side or the ends depending on the space I have to work in.

Ladders (I have 2 for when I pick from the side) lock onto the deck to become adjustable legs for the deck.

Well, actually today I cut those temporary brackets off & replaced them with more receivers so can slip adjustable ladder picks in anywhere. Also have a bracket that locks the forks to the deck when I pin it in a receiver.

Still a long way to go, but it sure is/will be a back & time saver. I have a bunch of little odds & ends to build for it. I am also building a set of forks to mount to the end of the backhoe attachment to get it 11' up. Off the forks it only goes up about 6'. Needs a rack & storage for the trailer to make it easy to load & unload.

I haven't forgotten the "Z". Had to push it outside today for shop space. I should be able to get some time this winter. Dave, you know how that time thing goes sometimes. truck looks great BTW.

Yup, there's a ton of stuff to build for it yet.

Enginuity at it's best! I have enough scaffolding to set up one tower 12 feet high. The fear factor comes from no safety rails and weather the planks are solid or rotted the farther from the edge I go! My living room has about a twenty foot high ceiling with a ceiling fan that wobbles at anything but the slowest speed. I hate heights, so it just runs on slow! Need to get someone in here who has no fear of heights or a really tall ladder to try and balance it. It would help a lot in the winter when all the heat goes up there. Maybe you could dive the bobcat down here? :)

Got another area cleaned up and some primer sprayed on the '57 today, progress is slow but it's progress at least!!!! Built some supports to hold the old Buick off the ground and installed them.. This was someone else's project before I got it, first thing for me to do is take the ill-fitting frame they put under it (Caprice, I think) out from under it and haul it away with the rest of the scrap iron!!!! Hopefully I'll have some time towards spring to get it into the shop and start doing some work on the body. Tentative plans for the Buick are to find an Eldorado donor car with a Northstar in it, then build the car as my rendition of Harley Earl's Wildcat cars in '52, 53, and 54. No way I'll have time to finish it this winter, but I'd like to get a frame designed and built along with some of the cut, chop, and rebuild on the body....

Spent the long weekend getting as much done on the scaffolding as possible. I have a couple things to do yet but I'm a little closer to calling it a done deal. the track loader isn't big enough to set the deck on the trailer & still pull the forks out of the receivers. That & there's no way to easily pick it from the end. So I decided a tilting storage rack would solve both problems.

I hope I get another chance to work on the scaffolding soon(Fabbing that is). Still a lot to do to get it set up the way I want. I need to stay on it. Sort of like building a house. If you move in before it's done, ............hard to get the punch list done. :mad:

I thought I'd give this thread some love. It's nothing too exciting, but it's progress. We bought a New Port wiper kit earlier this year. It's a great kit and perfect for a car that does not have an electric sunroof :whacked:. However, we had problems. The main problem being that the passenger side wiper comes out just past the middle of the windshield right where the sunroof motor wants to go as shown in the last pic. We cut up the case of that motor because we thought we could make that work, but it didn't as you can see and we ruined the motor. Then I bought a later model sunroof motor that did clear, but did not "bolt up" like the original one. I made brackets before realizing that the sunroof structure I was going to attach them to is aluminum and I'm not set up for it with my mig.

We then gave up and bought the SPW kit where the passenger side wiper comes out much further over to the right with a remote motor (which would allow the VW molded headliner to fit also). After receiving this kit we decided it was not quite as nice. Also after all we had gone through a universal kit was not someting we really wanted to get into. if we were going to drill new holes in the car and lose money on the New Port kit we may as well just use it and move the holes for the wipers over one inch to the right and cut the top wiper bar to clear the sunroof motor. I will add the pictures of the solution later on, but the first three show the problem.

Also, I had an anti street rod moment a while back where I came up with an idea to adapt a "windshield crank handle" to the plasctic sunroof control panel. The VW sunroof knob is a dial that you turn so when you look up all you will see is the chrome handle to give a more original look to it. Now I just need to finalize/troubleshoot the sunroof wiring so it actually works :HMMM:

On most of the 30's cars it's really easy to run out of room on the overhead and in the dash!!! Love the fat fenders, but the payoff of having such a narrow cowl area is the penalty. Anxious to see the "after" pictures of your dilemma!!!!

These other pictures I have aren't as great as I remembered and I don't have one with the sunroof motor in place, but you can tell where it goes. You can see on the inside picture how little it really moved over and the cut in the top piece. It made it a whole lot weaker so I welded a rod to the back, but it wouldn't clear very far over to the right. I hope it holds up okay for a while. I at least can't see it flexing as it moves back and forth. Looking back the solution is nothing amazing, but it sure took a while to come around to it.

space sure is a premium Dave. Between the wiring, fuse panel, heater, heater flex hose, cowl vent, and engine computer we're about out of space under the dash too. finding a place in the dash to mount the headlight and wiper switches where there was space behind to fit them was difficult too. Then there's the e brake handle too interfering passenger space, but it's all working out!

Well, looks like it all worked out just fine! On the Plymouth I'm finishing now I totally ran out of space, you can tell when you have something mounted correctly because it's the only place it could fit!!!!:LOL::LOL:

Wow and I complain about lack of space under the dash in the 48 truck! Nice job getting all of that to fit! I'm still searching for an after market unit to fit the truck, that has an intermittant switch built in. Currently there are a few people on ebay selling 12 volt motors, but none with intermittant mode, which is needed around here with our misty but not quite rainy days. Then again mine won't be a daily driver, so I guess the regular setup would work! My space issues revolve around the cowl vent mechanism and the wiper blade transmission.
