Everybody that is currently building a car...

Made some headway today Son and I sanded the trunk area and underside of deck lid and put it in primer . Passenger compartment is next . Sure is nice to have his help , gets things done so much quicker .

Sprayed in paint able undercoating where original shutz was sprayed to seal all edges ..

Lookin' good Bobby! Did a bit of messin' around on the 'maro today, nothing real exciting.... Think I have the engine mounts and sidepipes figured out, but that's about all I accomplished....

Thanks Dave feels good getting back at it and seeing how close I am getting . Shiver me timbers .

Last pic I seen Of the Maro I thought the engine was the drivers seat :LOL:. Going to end up with store bought here need good equipment for making your own .

Well, had to move it forward about 3".... Front of the block is even with the spindle centerline now.... A concession to get the shifter location where I want it to be!

Dave that will beat having to sit in the back seat .:)



Not much last night but the rt 1/4 . After almost 9 years of sitting around and some grand babie playage in garage . I had to remove all the nicks and scatches out and re prime. I am excited to be kicking up some dust here finally .

I used the All-Metal where the original lead was in the sail panel on the full 1/4 . I had it sitting on stands for all them years on the frame in front of the rear end and a small hair line crack formed in sail panel . Ground it out and checked welds and they where fine so I just re did it over ,hate doing that should have supported car on suspension where it is designed to carry the weight .

I am getting back at it too ,need to get everything ready for the move to kansas ,I ordered the hurst mastershift 3 speed shifter for my truck ,along with the installation kit from jegs....should be here in a few days.


I will have to say I like ordering from jegs ,soo far,all the parts listed in the webpage when they would ship and they shipped when promised.......just a few hours after I ordered I had a e-mail confirmation of the order and after a few hours more I had confirmation the part shipped out and a tracking number ,then a few hours later ,which was the next morning I had a e-mail listing what I ordered ,the price, part numbers and a thank you..........It looks like they are ontop of it there.....now we will see how fast it gets here and if it is correct when it arrives .

Looking good, Bobby. My youngest son and I are sanding his Firebird for paint. You're right, it is nice when they help.

It is really good to see the mail order shops working so hard on their customer service!!! I order from Sumitt, Jegs, Speedway and a few others regularly. Speedway really has me spoiled!!!! They're only a couple hundred miles away so if my order is in by 9AM it will be here at 3:00 PM the next afternoon on the big brown truck!!!!!!

I have had the same with Summit. If I order before 3p.m. it will be here by 10a.m. the next day using their regular mail service. They are also about 400miles from here so that helps alot. They only time this isn't true is when they have to ship from their midwest wherehouse or the parts are on back order. Nice huh. Wish everyone was as customer friendly.

Not much done on the 'maro, just figuring out engine mounts, suspension points, etc....

We went to the DragList Nationals IV @ Eddyville Raceway Park this last weekend.
This is the report from DragList. We pull Jeff's stock street car out there every year for the event, just to have some fun & make a couple T&T passes. We mostly go out for the bench racing & good food.

Jeff ran his '95 camaro through tech & when the T&T cars were called to the line Jeff pulled into the staging lanes. After a short wait he pulled into the water box and warmed the slicks a bit, then let go of the line lock and coasted up towards the lights. He was matched up against the Texas based VW Nationally known as "George". Yes, you read that correctly, John Bockelman (A.K.A. Wild Cat One) was in the spectator lane, Jeff was in the tower lane. Zappy & I decided to have some fun, so he & I played the roll of spotter. We went to the beams, put our best foot forward & motioned the 2 street beasts to the line. Taped the hood & gave the drivers our final hand signals and backed away.
A few people in the stands (and there was a nice sized crowd) caught on to what we were doing and got a kick out of it. So, Zap & I have already decided to go all out next year and bring the DragList street beasts to the line with a full-on pro routine. lol.
Well, back to the run. Jeff left good. Had a 1.92 - 60', his first time in the 1's. The stumbling problems of last year are all gone. He said he felt it pulling better than it has ever run, but unfortunately he missed third because of first lap jitters and turned in a 9.20 something. He really wanted to beat his time from 2 years ago of 8.8x and was feeling good about his chances based on the first part of the run.
They had 3 T&T laps scheduled, so we decided I would make the second lap & Jeff would finish off the night with the last lap in the good air.
So, I lined up against WC, this time I was in the spectator lane & WC took the tower lane. I did a burnout and inched up to the line. WC was in the beams first so, as soon as I lit the second bulb the tree dropped. I had the RPM's up and dropped the clutch. It was at that moment I realized a well prepped track, 9" slicks, and even a moderate amount of H.P. with a clutch in a fairly heavy car is more than a 10 bolt posi can withstand. lol I got off the go pedal (since it wasn't going anywhere Ann E. Weigh) and pushed in the clutch. Once the engine wound down I could hear the drive shaft spooling down. My razor sharp instincts told me this was probably a bad sign. (Don't ask me why, but it was at that moment I had a flashback of Rapid Randy Baker, where did THAT come from?).
Jeff was recording the run (his V-I-D-E-O below). He jumped the guard rail and helped the track guys & a couple DragListerz' push me back to the trailer.
Once loaded we had room to climb underneath & pull the rear end cover off. (Thanks Danny Miller for the catch pan) so we could catch the rear end lube, spider gear teeth and other assorted parts as they drained out of the housing. Danny & Crew were conveniently pitted just a few feet away from us with their Plastic Fantastic NF/C.
Well, needless to say that ended the racing part of our weekend. It was a bummer, but Jeff & I both knew the 10 bolt was the weak link. He had plans to upgrade it, just not right now.
Jeff & I discussed it & decided to go talk with Danny Miller about our options. Looks like tomorrow we'll be calling him for a Rear Gears ® 9" with an F-Body housing. Danny said he could have it shipped in 2 days. WOW, that is service. Jeff feels better knowing it will be back together soon. (And so do I since I was the one that Broke the deal). So, by this weekend Jeff may be back on the road with a bullet proof unit under the camaro. You know he's gonna' want to test it out at the DLN's V.

Breaking parts is never fun, but with the group we were hanging out with it really was just a blip in the day. Jeff has his first bag of drag racing souvenirs and is ready to do it again.

Jeff is going from a 4:10 gear to a 4:30. Should give him a little more low end.
Also, the guy that built the engine before Jeff bought it never tuned it. It has reworked heads, nice cam, Edelbrock injection, headers & forged bottom end, but still has the stock tune up & 5,800 chip. Deeper gears & a tune should help his ET's. 14 flat is the best 1/4 mile time he's run. Tuned properly it has the parts in it to run low 13's maybe even high 12's. It gives us something to play with until the 70 is ready.

Well, looks like any questions about replacing the "weak link" have been answered!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

The new differential should work out great! I did a bit of work on a guy's 'maro of the same vintage awhile back.... Used a bolt in 9" housing from Moser, set of 4.11's on a Detroit locker. Added disc brakes and an Addco bar to finish it off. He's going down to the road race track by Omaha for open track day....think it's next weekend. Anxious to hear how the car does. He ran it once before with the stock stuff, now has the rear end changed and a TKO trans!!!!

Danny sold us on a tru-track unit. Said it would work best for things like getting one tire wet & one dry in the water box sometimes. We'll see how it does. (that has happened to Jeff in the past, hard on a posi.).

Dave your back at the big shop work and all toys get less visitation . You'll be back at it soon I am sure .

Pro I was ready for the launch and it even surprised me . Guy up here in Addison builds rear ends also for rods . Tough looking stuff .
