I was ready for your launch this rear is under a 55 Chevy at his shop . It had just did the same thing you did .

He's got the wounded unit out and is problee' going to dry fit the housing to see how everything fits.

I got the 3 speed hurst shifter installed today,mounted it up ,cut the hole in the floor ,still need to hook the linkage up........should go right together now ,I have the transmission selectors in neutral already ,all I have to do is put on the ears and linkage .
The reason I did not get it completed was my tires came in today.....I got a set of goodyear duratracks in 31 10.5 r15 to go all the way around and finally dug my aluminum rims out I polished 3 years ago....:LOL:
All I can say is they look good with new tires on them and the tires are just what I wanted,makes the truck look like a truck. It got too dark to take pictures tonight ,so I will snap some saturday. Also got new center caps for them and lugnuts.....41 dollars worth of lugnuts:whacked:
I gatta say the Hurst shifter looks mighty good pokin thru the floor,with the white shift ball and shiney stick ,I just had my fill of trying to make the 3 on the tree work ...too much hassel making 40 year old worn out parts work correctly and I did not even want to get into tryin to rebuild the thing.
Now all I have to do is decide on what to do with my fuel cell...I am not happy with it mounted inside the bed toolbox and it hangs too low for my taste under the bed........so I might put the tank back in the cab....I really really hate to do that......or I might get a new cell to mount under the bed and do a bed fill cap?
The under the bed tank LMC makes for the truck seems like alot of work to route the fill neck to a bedside or to some location as they dont give instructions on where or how to route it and I hate to have to add a fuel door in the bedside as i dont like the look of the flush mount bedside style,plus i still have the hole in the cab for the fuel filler,but just hate the thought of all that fuel inside the cab...it just seems wrong and dangerous :CRY:
Shawnee. it's fairly easy to put a flush mount filler right in the bed floor. This is what I'm planning to do with my truck, once the engine and other stuff is up and running. I've got a wooden bed setup originally on mine(nothing there now, but I imagine even with a metal bed you could put a flush mount filler cap without too much trouble. I'm with you on the no gas in the old cab part!

Sixteen gallons of 87/93 octane sitting right behind you sloshing around in an unbaffled tank to me is about as bad as those with Model A Fords that have 10 gallons literally sitting in their laps just waiting to spring a leak - either from age or, gasp, an accident. There are better ways!! Most of the Chebbie P/U rods that I see have the below bed mounted tank with an access door to fill it up. I like the middle mounted version so you can pull up on either side of the truck to fill, but a side version would work as well.
Here's this weekends project. My son Jordan decided he wants it black. I have to give him credit; he busted his butt taking it apart and sanding all week.
Yeah ,I have decided to just install the one back in the cab to be able to drive it on the trailer for the move to kansas or just use the cell I have in the toolbox.........I just need to be able to move it on and off the trailer and drive it in the quonset hut and then install one under the bed once I get out to Kansas.
I just can`t bring myself to drive around with all that gas in the cab ...Thanks for helping me realize that is just too dangerous.
Getting ready to go install the rest of the shifter linkage here in a few minutes and that will almost complete what I need to do to be able to move it !!!
Plus I need to be able to move it to put the new roof on the back house...it was in the way.
No more driveway projects for me ......it will all be in the quonset hut now and not have it in the way or out in the weather.Last project out here is putting another motor in the 84 gt-350 and it will enclosed shop projects from now on !!!!!
Those pics of the gas tank is exactly what I plan to do,my truck has or had a wood floor....it currently has no floor....:LOL:

Just got the driveshaft back yesterday after having it shortened by two inches. Spent the morning before work sanding off the rust, treating it with a rust converter, and spraying on some black engine enamel to protect it from rusting. Hope to get it installed tomorrow before work!
Here is a pic of the new tires and my polished rims that I hand sanded and polished myself......very time consuming.:LOL:

I got real motivated yesterday and put the bed toolbox back in and installed the fuel cell inside of it .I could not bring myself to use the in cab tank for just loading it on the trailer.
I put some fuel in it and started it up .....it had been sitting for 2 years and fired right up,an electric fuel pump is nice ,just turn the key ,let it prime and fire !!!!!!!

The first time after 5 years of being taken all the way apart it can actually move under it`s own power.
I will have to say after fighting with the 3 on the tree ,this hurst shifter works like a dream........it was worth every penny,simple installation and it worked perfect and smooth the first time.
Now I need to get the grill,bumper,windshield and tailgate back on it then it will be complete again,not finished ,but all together anyway,no back bumper for it yet....oh and the heater installed and the tail lights hooked and, and ,and.....:LOL:
These old cars are alot of work ,but fun to do !

Got a bit of stuff done on the 'maro, engine mounts are tacked in, they'll also be supported off the new front suspension crossmember. The circle burner style mid-mounts are temporary, going to insatll a .090" mid plate on the block attached to the floor mounts. Now got to do some gusseting on the interior, and build the new firewall. Also got the headliner put in my pickup, seat should be done soon and I can fire it up and drive it a bit before it gets the big "for sale" sign!!!!

Shawnlee you will definitely have some cover in Kansas seen those pics . Mater of fat I think I was even steering at the grass it look so good on the farm.

Dave do you sit in the truck and look up more now since you installed the headliner:D. You will get a sore neck if you do it a lot you know.
