I don't have a misses to tell me that stuff...:D
Lack of time, money & space tells it to me!!:CRY:
Hey she`s cool about it, I still buy parts, I`m still working on the ford 9, housing from a `69 bronco. 58 inches, have a set of 31 spline axles for it, just taking my time looking for a 31 spline 3 to 324 geared posi, missed several on CL because I was just to slow,,but it will happen then I`ll switch to a deeper dish TT wheel.
Thanks guys, I with you did`nt want to cut it up, heck, I never cut the fire wall, I did it the hard way.. it took me a week to build a lower alt mount to put it on the lower left side, nothing premade (store bought) would fit or couldn`t adjust. so started with steel plate for the base to bolt up to the lower two bolt bosses, and started tacking up steel scrap until I got the desired position and adjustment, then pulled it off for measurements and cut one from 3/8 aluminum stock with a saber saw, then polished. Now its way down almost out of site. The guys at Vintage Ford said it couldn`t be done with a stock frame, until I showed up at one of thier shows.
Just a belated Thanksgiving wish - hoping you folks all had a good day.
Bobby - you DO need that 'A' even if you just do a quick flip and sell
Randy had to go way back in the pages to find the pedal thread you did . Once the car comes back I would like to have a little idea and remember how you converted it over .
I will be watching for a good deal on a power set up soon .
Now I am back to staring at that Black 37 , Rich really cant say enough about that car .
Sure, Bobby, I'm happy to help however I can. In retrospect, there may be an easier way than what I did but I was trying to use parts I had already bought. I had the car set up for a C4 trans so my MC/power booster setup only had one pedal. Obviously, converting to a 5 speed, I needed two! After looking at the pics of your existing pedals on your 37 plus a new clutch pedal setup from Pete & Jakes http://www.peteandjakes.com/blog/index.html, I devised a way to modify one pedal setup into two.
Are you going to keep the original X-member in the frame or do you have plans to make some big changes to it? That will make a big difference for how you approach the pedals....
Randy I am keeping the X member . I looked at the pedal assy today too and they almost look identical to yours I think I can mod its mount with a power booster assy and mount . . I will have to weld different bungs on it to accommodate the M/C and clutch cable . I will have to figure it out more again once its back . I will have a few pics to add in a short .
You asking for hip size LMAO JUST KIDDING , the rear end is 59 1/4 wm to wm .
Here are some close shots of pedal assys . Sorry I got these by phone and can't re size them I tried it and lost 2 LOL had to have him resend them to me.
Randy your pedal assembly is a lot better comparing the 2 now . They cut a big chunk away to fit these in , Maybe I can use them and start over and make a set like you have weld new bungs on and all . Like the spacing yours have as compared to these .
If I had that rear end I could use the smoothies with the 3.75 back spacing . would be perfect fit . I think the rims are 7 or 8 inch I forgot it's been a while . the tire at its widest point is 11 inches . Yeah he said body should be back on this week so I told him to hold off and try them for shits and giggles .
Bobby, if that brake pedal was bent differently from th pivot point, they wouldn't have had to notch the frame like that. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about....
I think I posted these before but these are pics of the brake/clutch pedal kit from Pete & Jakes. These are they pics they sent me to show how they mocked it up. If you can fit your engine in there without cutting the firewall, these might work for you. Since I used the big block firewall, these wouldn't work for me. I needed the pedals to straddle the x-member to give room for a gas pedal beside the brake pedal. I bought their pedals without their bracket and modified them to fit the bracket I already had.
Yeah i was looking hard but your extension is still further out then mine . Well once I get it back you and I have to put our heads together ( Mike ) and see what I do have and your thoughts on a better system .
Yeah I like those but like you say don't know what the firewall will be yet . He will be custom making it all fit in .
I kinda remember them but a great review class. I too will have to place the gas pedal in to the right of them .
Do with me? WHAT??? I just couldn't resist!:LOL: As far as welding, now I know what "they" say when anyone tells me it ain't as easy as everyone thinks! I think the metal work is far easier than the "plastic"....:o:o I'm finding myself doing the same area 3 and 4 times trying to get it "just right"...
Rich I was wondering if you are running the original column ? Looking for some ideas for the connection at the firewall and If I need to shorten the 37 column any . If I have to shorten it I think I will bring it all under the dash like a front wheel drive , this way I can exit just about anywhere I need with the universal under dash also .
Well here is the latest update pic from builder almost on 4 wheels , he thinks my rollers are in a stack buried outside in the snow .
Sorry about size again off his cell phone and they won't let me edit .
Bobby I`m running GM tilt, exits at the original spot to a vega box, I need to change mine too a 525 box, ( at least that is what I`ve been told due to the weight), the car only weighs in at 2590 lbs. What do you guys think...
Randy I have some one building this for me , he will be final Judge for that I know he is putting it in in 1/2 inch plate .. He is a master sheet metal guy though and am sure it will look great .
I will get it back in roller form and finished sheet metal in self etching primer . I will complete the car once its back .
Sure it will mold right in he does his work like that .
I like the deep dish look , I hope they clear also these are the 3.750 off set . If this rear was 3/4 shorter on each side I think it would be perfect .
He will be putting the body on soon and we will get to see the fit then .
Bobby quick photo of column, not really good photos, notice my Grey carpet has gone green over the years, boy thats really fugly.....:eek:it really shows in the pics, don`t notice that bad in the sunlight...
Rich Thank You for the time and pic. Gives me a idea where it will exit out .
Randy the rear leafs hold this up like stock same set as you TCI , I know lowing blocks are in order now for sure . The aperture of the pic I can't get a good look and how low the front is with M II . Will need some adjustments for sure like maybe 2 inch drop spindles ??
Bobby I have the same TCi rear, I put two inch blocks under the rear, still considering switching to a early mopar style spring, they ride a lot nicer but will have to change the mounting points.
A lot of times those springs also don't exactly center the rear wheel in the wheel well on 37 & 38 Fords. Chassis Engineering Inc has a 1.5" lowering block kit that give up to 3/4" adjustment for the rear end to center the wheels. I'm going to get that kit because my wheels need to move forward 5/8 to 3/4". It'll be hard to tell if you need it till you put the rear fenders on.
I have 2" drop spindles on the front of mine, too.
The car is looking good. Glad to see he's making progress.
Best place to get info on a 37 and build it right is RIGHT here , you guys have been great . I know with your help when the time it comes back we will together get it looking great and sitting just right .
Thanks again
The pics of the lowering block kit looks like they give you a couple of hole choices rather than a slot. Shouldn't be any movement with that. Also, I may have mentioned this earlier but my current rear tires are 28". I think it probably needs 29" for that wheel well.
As for the front, you might have to wait till you get the engine in and let the springs settle a little for getting the drop spindles.
Well I see lowering blocks for sure and a lot of tire size tries to get this right . Think I will keep the 255s in the rear really fills the wheel opening up .
I need to drop off 2.5 inches in the rear , so either I narrow this 9 inch or look for a rear out of a 65 or 66 mustang that are 57.250 . And change the off set by a little , I do like the deep look on the wheels .
He has the front suspension right on and the wheel there sits inside about a inch so its good .
