Joe....that first picture of the Vicky struck a familiar pose. This is my
Model A after we set it on the new TCI frame. I put in all Bitchin'
products metal firewall and floorboards, and chucked all the wood.
I used a deuce grill shell, and had a new hood fabricated. Mine has
wire wheels as well.
I love your project, that will be fun. :3dSMILE:
Daver.
Well I got my running boards back from being sandblasted, looks like I'll be doing a little welding on them. One of them had bondo filling up the holes. One headlight ended up a little thin too but the other pieces look pretty good.
I figured my taxes yesterday, have to pay into the state of Minnesota (Land of 10,000 taxes) but getting enough back from Uncle Sam to pay the state off.:whacked:
Sap started running yesterday, collected 110 gallons and cooked off about 75gallons, got home at 1:30 this morning, going back there this afternoon and will be cooking until the wee hours of the night again.
I looked at Itoldyouso truck this morning the 39 Dodge. I looked at my 39 Chevy and I think it's now or never, I have to do something even if it's wrong.
I hope I can get some advice on this when I start pulling it apart.

That Vicki is sweet, very nice stance with that frame and suspension. Its going to be a beauty.
That truck is in really good shape ford2custom, are you going to get it?
Thanks that makes me feel better.
I bought the truck about ten years ago; I just haven't started what I wanted to do. It was really in good shape when I bought it but ten years sitting outside has really taken a toll.
I was looking at Itoldyouso 39 Dodge and went to my truck to see how bad it is getting. The windshield used to crank out but I'm going to try to put WD 40 all over the hood hinges plus the doors. This year I'm going to take the cab off one way or the other.

Got some primer on the coupe today.... Had so many different shades and textures it was difficult to tell straight from wavy so I made it all one color so I can see where I'm at on it!!!! Didn't used to have to do this, must be one of them old age things or something?????  I alos replaced the stock stamped steel braces below the rear side windows with some thin wall square tube, then further reinforced it to the door jamb with some smaller square tube. Getting closer to done, anyway!!!!!
Dave great transformation . You spent some time pinging and dinging to get that body close . Said this before like sheet metal but hate plastic i spend way to much time on it . My pay would be about 13 cents a hour .
Well, this one's for Tom....not really a matter of making money on it...got all summer to do that on the Mercs and other projects we have going. Been a tough winter on me this year, I named Tom's coupe "Therapy" a long time ago!!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

Your right about every day . I tried it and get tired fast after work . More done on weekends when momma works and i'm not dead beat lazy . Like when the son's come over with some spirit and we get out there . Then we stop working and get to close to the fridge LOL.
Yeah, getting too close to the fridge will definitely cause a work stoppage!!!! Gave up that stuff years ago, nothing but drinking coffee now..... Well, not so much drinking coffee, more like being the middle mad for the coffepot and the john!!!!! Same thing as drinking beer I guess, you never really do buy it, just rent it for awhile!!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

A little refreshment is okay, I am usually too busy and it sits and gets warm. I find myself getting lost in wrenching itself, sometimes I'll be at the shop for 6 hours and it feels like I wasn't there 6 minutes! Not much for the fridge I guess, get a better buzz off of the car. Thats one thing getting old can't take away.
Heading back in the morn to fire up the green monster again, the torque converter was leaking thats what was wrong. New TC in and with a few attachments in the am it should fire up. Then it is time for my dart.
I've been lurking, Dave....I've read every post in this thread as they come in.Quote:

Brick rule is allways after working thats when a cool one goes good with air . . Getting deep in work is allways better too. The light work is relaxing and the big work wears me out sometime.
But of course!!!! What the heck else would a guy do???? Take up basket weaving??????  :LOL:Quote:

   It's not even close to nice yet, Tom!!!! I'm going to let the primer set up for awhile, then start blocking and see how much more work I have to do..... This primer is just to help an old blind man see how things are coming along..... Still a lot of blocking till it's ready to shoot. I also got the POR 15 on the rest of the inside of the car, hope to have all 4 fenders ready by the end of next week....Quote:

Coupe is looking great Dave.
No, No, on the 5 spd. :whacked: I'm too lazy. :D push a botton a couple times is more my speed.
This time I brushed it on, wanted to work it into all the little nooks and crannies to seal them up a bit too... But I've sprayed it, too.. Seems to work equally well either way.....Quote:

Thats what I noticed when I brushed it last, so much easier getting into the hard to reach areas. I just didnt have much luck getting all the brush strokes out of it. It was a floor board so it really didnt matter. I have heard it can be sprayed out smooth, so I was just curious.
If I'm putting POR 15 on something I want to have a really smooth appearance, I brush the edges, then load up the gun and shoot the rest. Another thing I've learned with using POR 15, is that after you have applied it, then wait till it is in the almost dry, but still a bit tacky stage you can spray a coat of Epoxy Primer over it. Once the whole thing dries and cures out, you can work it and paint it just like any other surfacing.... Had some issues getting primer to have good adhesion over POR 15 if I wait till it is totally dry....Quote:

(my luck with POR-15 sucks, so I don't use it except on cleaned but formerly rusty but fairly rough areas)
I've just never had any luck getting good adhesion after the POR 15 is dry, even after trying to scuff the stuff when it's hard as a rock!!!!... I've found that if a bare surface is scuffed good, like with 36 grit, and the POR 15 applied it sticks great!!!! Almost impossible to get it off once it's dryed!!!!
Manufacturer says after 12 hrs nothing is going to stick permenently, but if you primer the por 15 with ectching primer after a couple hours and let them bond. Then you can paint anytime you want and it will stick. I got that from the POR 15 Info site. I have done this and it has worked for 3 years so far.
I've got cars around, some daily driver stuff even that has had POR 15 on it for like 12 years or so now, and it's still on there doing it's job!!!! Some of them have paint over it, some don't. Anyway, the stuff is about as close to bulletproof as I've ever seen!!!!!Quote:

The silver POR-15 will turn a greenish hue after time. At least it did years ago when I used it on the Cobra build. I'm not sure if that's been corrected since then but just a heads up.
Yup, good stuff!!!! Works equally well as the "Phix" product that I usually use, but had to give the new stuff a try, too.... Nasty stuff though!!! Sure wish I would have waited for warmer weather and could have had the doors open in the garage!!!!!Quote:

Well good day today found the fuel pump after 10 yrs in a box , cleaned and installed ,found and cleaned distributer , I have the brake master sprayed with cleaner for tommorrow . oh also found the carb , hitting auto parts in morning for carb and master rebuild kits . This is it i've kicked my own self in the A^^ .
when it hit 50 a couple of weeks ago got to motor around the sub many times and get some time on the new engine and tranny. My first experience with a stall converter, think I love it. 3600 is what it seems to lock at, if thats the right terminology. BBC feels like the most powerfull engine I have ever had, cant wait to get her broke in and wind it up. Although with the gas prices up likely have to wrap up quarters to get some money for gas.
Just completed all new bushings in the rear, KYB shocks and new springs, lucked out on the ride height, its spot on. No more air shocks for me, cant wait to experience the fully new suspension. (front was completed last April, tie rods-ball joints-lowered springs-bushings-gear box-sway bar)
Gotta get my son to get photos in here.
here are some pics!

I have POR 15 for my frame, but I was wondering should I just spray the suspension pieces also or buy some paint for those pieces??
Thats a beautiful El Camino, and the BBC makes it mean, very nice.
Jon, that is one gorgeous Elky!!!! All your extra time detailing and taking care of the "little things" has definitely been worthwhile!!!! Congrats on a very well done build!!!!!!
35, POR 15 would of course be more durable on the suspension pieces, just not much color selection.... I either have mine powder coated or use Epoxy Primer and some quality paint on suspension pieces. Probably depends more on "the look" you want....
I agree with Dave, your limited on color when it comes to Por-15. Durable, but on small stuff I have resorted to poweder coating or Imron.
Jon---Elcamino looks great!!. Detail is well noticed.
