Everybody that is currently building a car...

Sixteen gallons of 87/93 octane sitting right behind you sloshing around in an unbaffled tank to me is about as bad as those with Model A Fords that have 10 gallons literally sitting in their laps just waiting to spring a leak - either from age or, gasp, an accident. There are better ways!! Most of the Chebbie P/U rods that I see have the below bed mounted tank with an access door to fill it up. I like the middle mounted version so you can pull up on either side of the truck to fill, but a side version would work as well.

Here's this weekends project. My son Jordan decided he wants it black. I have to give him credit; he busted his butt taking it apart and sanding all week.

Yeah ,I have decided to just install the one back in the cab to be able to drive it on the trailer for the move to kansas or just use the cell I have in the toolbox.........I just need to be able to move it on and off the trailer and drive it in the quonset hut and then install one under the bed once I get out to Kansas.
I just can`t bring myself to drive around with all that gas in the cab ...Thanks for helping me realize that is just too dangerous.

Getting ready to go install the rest of the shifter linkage here in a few minutes and that will almost complete what I need to do to be able to move it !!!

Plus I need to be able to move it to put the new roof on the back house...it was in the way.
No more driveway projects for me ......it will all be in the quonset hut now and not have it in the way or out in the weather.Last project out here is putting another motor in the 84 gt-350 and it will enclosed shop projects from now on !!!!!

Those pics of the gas tank is exactly what I plan to do,my truck has or had a wood floor....it currently has no floor....:LOL:

Just got the driveshaft back yesterday after having it shortened by two inches. Spent the morning before work sanding off the rust, treating it with a rust converter, and spraying on some black engine enamel to protect it from rusting. Hope to get it installed tomorrow before work!

Here is a pic of the new tires and my polished rims that I hand sanded and polished myself......very time consuming.:LOL:

I got real motivated yesterday and put the bed toolbox back in and installed the fuel cell inside of it .I could not bring myself to use the in cab tank for just loading it on the trailer.
I put some fuel in it and started it up .....it had been sitting for 2 years and fired right up,an electric fuel pump is nice ,just turn the key ,let it prime and fire !!!!!!!

I think it`s actually mobile now......:LOL:
The first time after 5 years of being taken all the way apart it can actually move under it`s own power.

I will have to say after fighting with the 3 on the tree ,this hurst shifter works like a dream........it was worth every penny,simple installation and it worked perfect and smooth the first time.

Now I need to get the grill,bumper,windshield and tailgate back on it then it will be complete again,not finished ,but all together anyway,no back bumper for it yet....oh and the heater installed and the tail lights hooked and, and ,and.....:LOL:
These old cars are alot of work ,but fun to do !

Got a bit of stuff done on the 'maro, engine mounts are tacked in, they'll also be supported off the new front suspension crossmember. The circle burner style mid-mounts are temporary, going to insatll a .090" mid plate on the block attached to the floor mounts. Now got to do some gusseting on the interior, and build the new firewall. Also got the headliner put in my pickup, seat should be done soon and I can fire it up and drive it a bit before it gets the big "for sale" sign!!!!

Shawnlee you will definitely have some cover in Kansas seen those pics . Mater of fat I think I was even steering at the grass it look so good on the farm.

i'm working on a 1962 lark 2-door sedan with a 1964 R-1 289(it's a studebaker v-8 not a ford) it has a 3-speed on the columb.it has a dana 44 rear with 3:73 gears. the body is in good shape.i'm working on the interior,its going to have tuck and roll in red and its going to be painted black with a boss429 hood scoop,trans am fender vents and a spoiler off of a 1971 mustang,chrome reverse all around with g60-15 on the front and l60-15 on the rear,duels with glass packs.hope to have it done by next summer.and i'm working on a 1956 289 which will be bored to 304.5 cid and brought to R-4 specs.

That's a great looking headliner, Dave. I'll have to build one of the oil pan consoles one of these days; that's the coolest part of your truck, I think.

Actually, not an oil pan.... It originally started life as the floor access panel around the transmission out of a 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive farm truck....then a bit of tin work....

Well, it looks pretty durn spiffy, whatever you made it from. Camaro is looking pretty good, too. We're having fun puttin new feathers on the bird. It's just a V6 car but Jordan really helped take it from a crappy looking eyesore to a pretty nice car, plus he learned a lot along the way. He bought it cheap and then we bought a wrecked parts car with power everything, changed out all the interior, put on new shocks, brakes, hoses, belts, tuneup, new stereo, and fixed the air. Probably way more work than the car was worth but he knew how he wanted it and worked hard to put it together. We've got another complete drivetrain sitting there if he needs it so he's planning on driving it though college.

Well, if it's going to carry him through his college days then it's an investment and not an expense!!!! Anxious to see pics of the finished product.... Jordan certainly deserves a couple atta-boys from me for his tenacity!!!!!!

The torque arm bracket wouldn't slide over the bracket far enough for the holes to line up. And there wasn't much meat around the Edelbrock bracket so I altered it.

9" housing tubes are a little bigger so I added some gussets to stiffen up the torsion bar brackets. just for a little insurance.

Jeff did a test fit.Everything fit purdy' well. The only snag was the aftermarket lower control arms. They are beefier than the stamped stock arms and so won't slide in the bracket far enough for the bolt holes to line up. Should be an easy fix.

Now Jeff can pull it out, I'll make the alterations, then Jeff can clean up the parts & paint everything for final assembly.

Ordered some mandrel bent tubes for the 'maro headers. They should be here on Thursday, maybe I can start on the headers this weekend.....

Wow....this is the slowest I've seen this thread go with updates. Everyone must be working on their cars and not on the net as much....like me. LOL's. :LOL:

We have the El Camino nearly stripped of paint now. Finished the cowl hood....or at least nearly finished....still have a little more block sanding to do. His interior is all here except the digital dash.

We decided to give the car a shave. The only chrome will be around the front and back glass, grill assembly, and bumpers. Peeling off all the rest. Also went with the ventless one piece glass for the doors.

I keep promising pictures.....just dont seem to make the time.....but I will. Promise. :D

Went out to the shop and worked on the Plymouth for a bit today, just about have all the front end pieces fit.....turning a four piece hood into a three piece hood creates a bit of extra work!!!! Also have the running boards almost ironed out, 70+ years of bumps and bangs took their toll!!!!

Came home and worked on the 'maro headers a bit. "Interesting" to build fenderwell headers for a unibody car!!!! Oh well, if it was easy everybody would be doing it.....

Evolvo sounds like your getting back to the Volvo! I'm stymied by stupid stuff as always, but got the radiator tranny lines on the radiator, next the hoses I ordered should get here tuesday. So in the meantime deer seasion is taking presidence, as well as work!:CRY:

Started on the fenderwell headers for the 'maro today. Going to take a lot of cutting and fitting to get the 1 7/8" tubes out of the engine compartment and hooked up to the side pipes!!!! Oh well, gotta do something with my spare time!!!!!:whacked::LOL::LOL:

On vacation for 2 weeks so today I hit the rt 1/4 a stripped the paint off . These Nylon wheels are the Sh3t , removed paint went over with 180 then polished it with a scoth brite . Still a lot of pieces to do so a little at a time . Not letting the Mustang sit to close now down
to about 10 hours work on it for paint ..

Guy told me to take it all down to steel and show it on Ebay .This way they can see it's all steel no patches in body or fenders and splash aprons .. Also borrowed a sand blaster for the inside of fenders .

Spare fender i bought but decieded to keep the ones i had less plastic needed . Will put them on Craigs list for local pick up shipping is high on them .

As said earlier have spent some time in the garage but the wife got me hooked on that D$$n Farmtown on Facebook .

Dave the body is rust free except what looks like rock chips in the front area . The hood and cowl have it the worst . Now there is some all over but only slight compared to this . This with it's age has caused some pitting but not bad like a car out in the weather . With you maybe 2 to 3 weeks start to finish buffing paint :).

Selling it is a draw but climbing in it at 53 and plopping in the 37 is not a hard decision to make . Getting in and out of the 94 Escort is enough it's low like a Ferrari LOL .

Little 94 Escort was sick blew its rusted Chicago salted brake lines a few days ago with Josh driving it . Well he was smart enough to E brake it and use what was left in the pedal to get it home 10 mile's .

Well 94 Escort wagons have 2 lines running to the rear not just one .At the parts store purchased those neat plier type line bender and it worked like a charm replacing the lines . Still runs to good to give it up ,

I have not posted here for a while but here are some recent developments. I purchased the complete kit for oak bows and beautiful STAINLESS top irons from Brookville about two years ago and finally got around to varnishing the bows and mounting the top irons. Then I found out they had sent me the '30-'31 bows but they exchanged them even though I had already varnished the bows, kudos to Brookville! So all I had to do was bolt things together, right? HAH! At least three techs who shall remain unnamed told me different ways to mount the wiper motor until I found "Pete" at Brookville who remembered routing a groove in the front header to hide the wiper blade. Since Dremel makes a wood cutting bit available for only $5, I used my Dremel tool to carve out a groove under the bottom of the front header to hide the wiper blade after mounting/unmounting the bow for trial-and-error fit at least five times! Then I thought all I had to do was screw on the other bows. HAH! Even though the top irons are beautiful they have to be bent out slightly to match the inverted U-shape of the bows and one side popped the screws out while I put the screws in the other side. Well that was repaired by filling the holes with epoxy and clamping the bow sides with small U-clamps. So far it is holding but the top irons are very stiff even though I have lubricated all the joints so it remains to be seen whether any screws will pop out when I try to fold the unit. I may have to use a few through bolts instead of screws if the screws don't hold. So anyway, for anyone else who has a roadster here a few pictures of the way I have approached the wiper problem. Maybe you can see the brakeline tubing covering the wires to the wiper motor in the last picture, if you can't see it that is good because it means it is not very noticeable!

Beautiful work, I'll bet you can't wait to get it on the road. Looking at your last pic in the above post I'm just wondering about the allowance for down travel in the drive shaft loop or will the rubber snubbers on the frame rails bottom on the rear end before the drive shaft on the loop? Once again beautiful work.

The air bags ARE mounted on car in pics 1, 2 & 3 and bags are deflated in those pics, driveshaft clears when vehicle is fully deflated. There is 5 mounting holes on the axle bracket for mounting the airbags and with that, depending on whether the billet block at the bottom of the airbag is mounted one way or upside down, you then have 10 combinations for ride height. At present I find the rear too high and not sitting level in the weeds, and way to high when fully inflated, ( airbags should only be 1/2 inflated for proper ride height ), so I will change the mounting holes to get the rear down.

That is a mighty fine Studie! It's almost there, ready to run and believe me I appreciate real metal and keep trying to make my "plastic flyer" look a bit resto but you have to stay at least ten feet away! Today I stretched out the top irons that caused the screws to pop initially and so far the epoxied screws are holding OK and now I can see the shape of the roof. I am including a low-light picture of the front of the windshield header where it is possible to see that the wiper blade is essentially hidden when it is "in the groove". It also helps that the chopped windshield makes the header lower than eye level for my 5'10" height.

We're giving the El Camino a complete shave except the bumpers and grill. All remaining chrome delete. Should look ok....I guess. :confused: He wanted me to fab a roll pan for the 65 but I told him enough is enough. LOL's. We're going to have to finish this thing sometime this year....so I can finish my own next year. I got him a 'vent delete' door kit from One Peice Products. Hopefully it will be all cut and dry.

You guys would laugh if you could see him. He looks really worn down. Every day for the last 6 weeks he has poured his heart and soul into this thing. I get him up at 5:30 every morning and he works nearly til dark.The entire body is stripped bare and ready for epoxy and and skim of Dynafill ......then outside for a good blocking. I'm real proud of the young feller!

Edit....The first picture was quite a while back. I think my son had his brother take a picture of him striking a pose. I told him there was no way he had been working. Too clean!!

The Second and Third were where I cut out the pinch weld on top of the quarters.....all the way around and placed a cap on top.

Forth....interior ready for sealer and paint. Going to wait until all of the welding and grinding is done though.

Last....the finished addition of the Goodmark metal cowl scoop. Ready for blocking.

The Elky looks great, but yeah, the kid's too clean....He ain't done much yet!!!!! Great job on the scoop!!!!

Wow, some great looking stuff on here the last few days! Don, your top is coming along great. That Stude is awesome looking; it looks like it's going 100MPH standing still. The Camino is cool, too. I'll bet that will be one proud young man when he rumbles into the school parking lot.
We just finished painting my son's Firebird, it came out really nice. I'll post some pics after we put it back together and get the decals on.
