Dave - What kind of front end set up did you use on the Plymouth to get a decent ride height?
Well since dave is some kind of super genius, I was able to post a few pics. enjoy!
My son is just dying to drive this to town. He got his grades back to A & B's so despite my anxiety....its time to let him go.

I got one side of the rear frame mitered and boxed. Turned out pretty good. Going to add a cross brace to stiffen up the rear even more and provide a location for relocating the shocks. We're going to buy a new 'smuggler's box' lid and use that material to build the bed width back as close to origial as possible. I really not all that sure why the folks cut out the bed or the tubs. Even with the 11" wide tires they wouldve fit in the orginal wheel house. They couldve just chopped the frame and left the bed. Oh well. I'm going to try to make it so he can at least load up a 4-wheeler if he wants.

Im trying to figure out what his rear disc calipers are. Do all GM late model Metrics mount the same? I'm concidering swapping for a pair of 79-85 Cadillac Seville calipers so he will have an emergency brake. Next week we'll finish the other frame rail. Got plenty to do. Really want to get back to work on the 36. :D
thoes are the old ca. lic. plates you can sell thoes on e bay ...ted
Bad news on the Chevette; leaking headgasket. I decided i'm as far into it as I'm going, I'll sell it like it is and hope to break even. What a bummer.
Will a raw egg work for just one time Falcon :) . Real bummer but you know them are a repairable item cheap .
I wish I had more time to mess with it. Since we bought this foreclosure house to rehab for a rental and helping my son piece that Firebird back together, I can't find the time for any of my own stuff lately. No worries, I'll make what I can off of it and watch you guys build cars for a few months.:3dSMILE:I gotta get off these side projects and stay on the Plymouth, anyway. I'm bad about putting too many irons in the fire.
cool elcamino stovebolt. Are you running the stock motor?
Well, my '27 sedan is coming along, finaly got the rear end mounted on it's qauter eliptic springs, for the 2nd time, Kind of did my own thing on this, just couldn't find anyone that could guide me,The 1st time I put it in I just was not happy with it, so I took it out and redid it. So now it is a complete rolling chasy. YEA!! Remonted the body Sunday, Looks pretty darn cool. Now on to the floor pans and mounting the bench seat. Am having a blast buikding this Ratrod.
She started her life out as a ' Ford 2 door sedan in 1927 . But now she is my creation, she is going to be a true Ratrod, complete with some rust left on her! I built my own frame using a early Chevy front cross member, (just to make things differant from the norm)The body sets on it real nice and looks very cool!
Right now it's coming along pretty well, slowly but yet pretty good.. Got the front end all mounted 3 weeks ago, am runnning a suicide stle with a 5" dropped axle, still have to mount the shocks but that should be pretty easy.. I just finished the rear end last week, am running my own eliptic suspention on the rear. Sure was a lot more work that what I thought it would be, I thought it would be a very easy rear end to mount but, am very happy wth how it's turned out. The frame ride has only 4.5" of ground clearance .It came out a little lowewr than I waqnted but hey, what can I say? Just hope it vdoesnt drag to much! Might think about putting some old sachool air shocks on the rear, just incase it drages to much.Got the motor mounts built for the 350 and got it all mounted in place, it's mounted kind of high, 6.5", wanted to make sure there was no way to drag the oil pan (been there done that before!) Am going to run two 97's just for the sack of coolness. Am going to have to run a eletric fan on the radiator though, darn it! But I think I can hide it behind the Case tractor radiator shell.
Hopefully will get the body back on this weeklend so I can get the stearing colume mounted and the floors. in Really enjoying this build. ....Am planning on making her a mid 20's Chevy when it's all said and done, after all there are more Chevy parts than Ford on her and I am a true Chevy guy through and through!
Looks good, how about a few closeup shots?
I have been chomping at the bit to get started, so I started 2 weeks ago and here it is.Heights superride front end with the stock front rails boxed. The mid section rails are 2x3 back to 2x4 for the kick. Suicide doors rear bars are on the way. floor was put in to channel body over the frame, the rocker should be 6" off the ground. Body is going out for blasting.
The pickemup is looking good, Falcolnstein!!!! You're really gonna like the Heidt's front, they handle great,,,,important with the short wheelbase!!!!!
\This week we got the frameties made and one side installed on the '69 Camaro, seat mount plates, rear floor, cowl support and a bunch of little stuff done on the '36 Plym, and the '69 Mustang going in the booth tomorrow..... Next in line to come in is a '66 Chebbie pickup for a complete makeover..
and, unfortunately, no time to touch anything of my own!!!!!
Man your making me look bad. :D Looks like you'll beat me to the finish line on that truck. Mine's stuck in the twilight zone for now. Decided my sons project is more important than my own. May get started back on mine the end of this summer. Nice work. Looks good!

LOL's. He's not fooling me much! He just wants to drive it and I'm making him wait until all of the saftey issues are ironed out as well as driveablity issues. He does like all cars. He's been drooling over my turbocharged RX8 for the last 4 years but I told him no way was I putting him in a car that would run 168 MPH. I couldnt live with myself knowing I encouraged an accident of that magnitude. I dont mind knowing the Elky does the 0-60 faster. I've doctored the 6AL internally so its not easily accesible....3500 RPM rev limit for now. When I feel more confident later (6 months....not sure) it'll get bumped up. Also going to take him to Rogersville track next month and let him get a feel for the full squeeze down the stip. He has never let me live down selling my Grand National once he found out I had one. That and the Charger is the favorite two cars on his favorite movies....Fast and Furious. I kinda proud he like the older iron. Your right.....the younger generation would just assume have a pocket rocket or a rice burner over something more vintage. Kinda disappointing. But plus side is there may be more left over old cars for us! :D

I finished the front end on my project this week, and started mounting the motor. We just tacked in the motor because I want to sit and look at it for a while before I get to caried away. I have a reversed corvair steering box on the way so that will be next. Some where along the line I thaught I was going to be able to buy a whole bunch of parts snap my fingers and it would all be over. I was sadly mistaken, but it is moving right along one thing at a time. Hopefully I can get it done before I go off to wyo tech.
haha dave You are not alone when it comes to wishing you hadent solden something. My dad sold off his 68 gto when he graduated high school I also like to remind him of that.
Tipster
I know what you mean about buying the parts and thinking your done, just seems to pile up a while!
Sold the Chevette yesterday. I actually did pretty well on it, even with a leaking head gasket. So now I've got a little more capital for the Plymouth fund. I also bought a 32' Model A frame with the front axle and the wishbone.
Thanks Dave, this is one of those "down the road projects" but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I'm still thinking I can build a roadster body from that 48 Dodge cowl & rear clip I saved and I needed a frame for reference. We'll see; it may just end up being a lot of good welding practice.
i am currently working on a 1967 mercury meteor..390F with c6 trans...this car was bought in my home town in 1967 im the second owner so it means a great deal to me...body is in OK shape..interior its all there and in 85% condis...the 390 is only running off of 5 pistons so it needs a rebuild..im not able to rebuild myself and in my area i can find no one..so iv found a 390FE that has been rebuild paint and everything..Beautiful engine for a decent dollar..i just need to find out if it will fit the trans, mounts exc..once she is rumbling im putting on 15 gold wire wheels with white wall tiers..then body and paint witch im going pearl white...any questions or tips..please get at me
Starting to install all the goodies in the Plymouth... As with most 30's car, it's a narrow body, so the seat selection is a bit limited..ended up with front seats out of a Honda Accord, even used the backseat!! A bit tight under the dash, but the A/C stuff will fit, just say goodbye to the glove box. Because it's a Hemi powered car, it's got to have the pop up air scoop, right??? Going to use the cowl vent for that... The Mustang is painted, ready for the cut and buff routine...and a table full of parts to put it back together with. Put some frame ties under the Camaro, the pic show the attachment point to the front subframe... Still staying plenty busy!!!!
Wow Dave the Mustang looks sweet! You have been busy. The engine install on the Plymouth looks good. Still hung up on mine!
Thanks Steve! Not much of the Mustang work is mine, just some of the sheetmetal work and some time on the underneath parts. This is all stuff at the shop I'm help out at, so it's work done by the shop rather then just me.... One guy there does most of the painting, and a younger fella does a lot of the grunt work and is doing very, very well at learning the Hot Rodding aspects on the cars.... If he sticks with it, he'll definitely be a first rate builder someday!!!!
The Plymouth (so far) is my project. Having great fun with the build!!! Never have started with a car as nice and solid as this one was when it arrived! Then installing the new style EFI Hemi has had some very "interesting" moments... If I'm not careful, I could end up liking these engines!!!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Today, I started working on building the headers for the Plymouth. Got some 3/8" thick flange plates from a shop in Lincoln, Ne., and a box of mandrel bends and collectors from Speedway... When the headers and exhaust system are all done, they'll be shipped off to be HPC coated.....
My wife and I decided that we needed something fun to cruise the car shows with this summer so we bought this yesterday. It's a 92; LT1 6 speed. It had a lot of miles but the price was right and the owner took really good care of it, he gave us a big stack of service records showing everything he'd done to it.
Looks like a nice one Falcon! Should make for some fun cruizin'!!!!
That's the cleanest one I've seen. The interior looks new. Congrats. Now you've got to do some of route 66!:)
It's definately a blast, just got back from an afternoon cruise. Route 66 is definately in the plans!
I think I'm in the process of UNbuilding my car. I peeled another two chunks of meat off my hands trying to set timing then replace the valve covers with my good ones. ENOUGH! Gotta get rid of the culprit - now. Off came the air conditioning - in it's entirety!! I can actually see the distributor and the water pump now. The underside of the dash looks like a crater - but I still need a heater so at least some of the area will fill in soon. It was almost easy to change the valve covers. As soon as I get the shop dust and grime off of the pieces, I'll offer it for sale, and at least somewhat cheaper then a vendor - Vintage Air/Sanden, etc. If anyone is interested now, PM me - and we can take it from there - it will fit an 'A' or '32 and of course others.
