Like it !! got that bad azz look to it
Lookin good Barb, Cant wait to hear her running (I am sure you feel that feeling X50):3dSMILE:
Keep up the good work. Don Jr.
thanks guys
Barb I wish I could do that with the truck right now! It's been raining so much, no time to work on her, without rolling it out in the rain, and getting the primer all wet!
Sometimes a little nudge gets things back on track!
thanks bobby and steve. hubby checked on it this morning and it made it through the night with no one bothering it.
Any updates, Barb?
have not heard anything yet.
I'm very curious as to what the main gremlin was that kept you from getting it to run.
me too. but i am po'ed that i was sold the wrong motor mounts and was told that they were right. i had no way of knowing that they would never work that way. then that was what caused my shifter rod to bind.
It's gonna look very kewl Barb.
What color will she be?
All that pain will be gone once you put it in drive and get that first ride, Barb. They tell me it's like childbirth.........but you have more experience with that than me.:LOL:
Don
My wife and I had a 1971 when we got married. Gold with white top. We wish we had it today! I had it repainted and new interior and carpet in 1979. They were a very classy looking car.
when i sand her down again and repair the front panels behind the front panels she will be repainted in semi gloss black. love how the monte looks like that. no chrome but with red accents. i am very excited to get her back when the shop finishes with it. i do not know about the childbirth part. that was a little painful.
Any updates Barb?
nope. the mechanic has not started on it yet as far as i know. going to get hubby to give him a call tomorrow. he has a new business in the community and it is just him and his wife working on things and the word is out that he is very good so cars are backing up in his garage.
First in first out:) unless hes giving you a break then you'll just have to wait:(
that is what i think is going on. he said that i can make payments and that he will work with me. so i guess he is working on the daily drivers that pay right away.
well guys the mechanic started on the monte today. he called and asked me to come over as he needed my input on the engine mounts. I told him that i could not as he has my car. he laughed and said that he understood. i then told him that i could send my son over after school to answer any questions. he said that the only thing that he needs to know is how high i want my engine to set. if he sets it high i have to cut my hood for the air cleaner. if he sets it low then the exhaust ends off the headers will be sitting up on the frame. Charlie is going to tell him to sit the engine high. it also looks like i am going to have to go to a floor shifter as the engine is going to pinch the shifter arm from the firewall. will let you know what the decisions are when charlie gets back. i wish so much that i could go over and tell him what to do but the shop is across the bridge that i can not because of my phobia cross.
Good Luck, Barb, that piece of fabrication/engineering/guessing
is critical and it's good that you're taking your time and thinking
this over real good.
thanks mello.
Ran into similar problems with mine had to raise engine to get headers on. Got headers on and shifter linkage wouldn't clear. Now getting floor shift... Aint this fun...
yes it is charlie. that is why i sent it away to get done. when i got one thing fixed another problem popped up.
These little clearance issues come up every time you try to put 10 pounds of something in a 5 pound bag. :) Looks like your guy is on the right track and a hole in the hood won't be all that bad. Is it the air cleaner or carb that is going to poke through, Barb?
Don
my chrome street scoop with 3 butter flies.:D
Barb, just something to think about. That 472 is gonna take in a lot of air and will probably need more air filter area than you are showing in the pic to prevent drawing a vacuum at the filter. I would be thinkin' one 14"x4" or two 14"x2" stacked. That would give you 175 square inches of filter area. Hopefully, others will chime in on this. I might be full of beans!:D
well charlie is home from talking to the mechanic. the mechanic said that he can not see how charlie and i got as far as we did with the equipment we have. he asked permission to cut the frame and weld a plate in so the exhaust can clear it. he also said that my yoke on the tranny is wrong. the tranny is set up for a 4x4. so i am getting charlie to take over my other yoke. he cut and welded the shifter rod to clear where the engine was pinching it. he welded the tranny mount to accept the new tranny. charlie asked him what he thought over all about the car. he said for her age she is in very good shape and a beautiful car overall.
tech do you have a picture of what i might need?
I'd put a 14" drop base K&N on it and it should clear the hood and give you more air to boot.
Barb---you should be guided by drive line angles for how high you set the engine---I don't know what trans you have but I'm sure the 454 monties had t400 so trans clearance shouldn't be a problem and don't let the exhaust header fitment guide where you put the engine---after all you are swapping in the ENGINE not the EXHAUST headers---Priotity is driveline ----
thanks jerry and ntf. I am just letting this guy do what he needs to do. I will make sure that she is well cooled even if i have to get another hood.
get the engine in and see then how your hood clearance is , are you putting a am eld intake on ? as its about 2 inches higher than stock the stock caddy intake is set up lower than or equal to the port height of the engine to clear the caddys fwd hood and then they put a lowered narrow air cleaner on them as not much room. I dont know the exact engine dimensions but they seem to be a pretty tall engine.
good luck with it its coming along
i did install a new intake manifold from edelbrock. it sets pretty close. i do not mind cutting the hood if that is what it takes to get this done.
the eld intake is much much better than the stock one,if you ever come across a one wire hei for a caddy, snap it up as its also a good upgrade from the early points syst.
i flicked through and saw some pics of the engine with the old dist and didnt look further should have read more but i was lazy

The second site which is MTS puts out a book just for engine swaps
of the 472/500 cid caddy motors, at the very least good reading.
I had the 1969 - 472 and that thing had all kinds of torque and power
I love pulling away from a small sports car and seeing the looks on
their faces, because I was in a 6,000 pound Land Yacht. Kurt
i brought that one tech and installed it.
kurt i am so looking forward to that too.
