my neighbor does not mind at all. he loves the sound of my engine. i am running short hugger headers.
I wouldn't worry about it Barb. Even short headers or open manifolds will prevent cool air from warping a valve, I've done it for years on a multitude of engine and never had a problem. Where I have seen parped valves is running an engine with no manifolds of headers. In that case the valves ARE exposed directly to cool air when the engine is shut down.
See Barb, everyone has done it different and has had no issues.
The only other problem that might come up is the heat and sometimes fire that comes out of the headers burning something.
Fire that puppy up, Barb.:D Tons of us have done exactly what you want to do with no problems.
Don
I can't even think how many times I've run an engine with or without headers long tube and short. In over 40 years I've never had an engine related problem.
Yep did the same on all my rebuilds.
Maybe your neighbor was talking about the seals in your ears. Those will be ringing for a while.:LOL:
Don
thanks guys will do so first thing in the morning. being sunday i will wait until everyone goes to work tomorrow.
I wouldn't run a motor with no manifold or header at all, but if you have shortys on there, holler "FIRE IN THE HOLE" and light 'er off.
 thanks tech
Barb, you have to post a you tube video of this running.
i will tomorrow.
Barb, there is a thread on another forum where a lady has been "restoring" a 32 Ford that was built back in the day...........it is an old hot rod. She reminds me a lot of you in her determination and sticktoitness. She just posted a video of the first ride she got to take today, and it was so cool to see it move under it's own power for the first time in lots of years. It will be equally as cool to see you take that first ride. :)
You've done good. :D
Don
thank you don you are so sweet.
Good evening Barb...... Figure out the problems yet??
my neighbor told me that he would braise the radiator for me this weekend. so i have put that off until then. my hubby is working out of town for the week so i have my drive shaft in my living room working on that. it has to be finished before he comes home tomorrow.:D
on another note my girlfriends came over yesterday to hear me fire up the engine. my youngest friend was amazed that i did all that i have done. she said that she never thought of women doing that kind of thing. that when i talk about my car with them that it does not accure to her just what i am doing. my youngest son charlie was standing there when she said that and told you that it was women that kept things going during WW2 by building the tanks and planes. she said that she knew that but can not imagine that women can do heavy labor. Charlie said that his mom can do anything that she sets her mind too with a little help from her friends. i was so proud of him.
As well you should be... Good luck with the radiator, and don't trip over the drive shaft:LOL::LOL:
thanks charlie
Obviously he's proud of you too. (And well he should be.):D
See what we guys get for giving you gals the right to vote, Barb !:LOL:
The thing that has been very interesting about your build thread is that you aren't afraid to admit when something goes wrong. I tried to do that in my own build thread and when I screwed up something I laid it out there for all to see. For me, that has made your thread much more fun to read.
It was cool that your Son said those words. We guys sometimes think something but don't feel the need to say it, so he evidently feels deep down that way about you. :)
Don
yes i am very proud of him. i always thought like you that i must admit when i am wrong or do not know how to fix something. makes life alot easier that way.
short start up video. did not want to run it long with the hole in the radiator.

'Atta Girl!! Sounds great, and it is going to be a blast to cruise the local circuit with. Glad to see you're brazing up the radiator vs using the stop leak, too.
me too roger.
really dont like using chemicals in place of mechanical work.
Barb-brazing is the only good way I think.Don't meant to scare ya,but we think alike.LOL
