thanks dave that is a big help
Barb was you Monte HEI or points.
If it was a points set up, just extend the wire that originally connected to the external coil to the coil on the caddy engine (+ side of the Coil).
If the Monte was HEI, extend the the wire that plugged into the distributor (usually a heavy red wire to the + side of the coil, That should get then engine started.......but (there is always one of those isn't there) in the long run you will need to add an external resistor in line to the coil, otherwise you will quickly burn the points up (if it had been a point distributor originally the wire that originally connected to the external coil is a resistor wire and does not a na external resistor). If you need a resistor just ask for one from any 60's chrysler product and wire it in.
As far as the regulator it should be plug and play....but (there's that damn word again) what does the plug in on the back of the alternator look like? If the plug on the Monte Carlo wiring harness look like this. l l . it's an external regulator alternator If the plug looks like this _ _ it's an internal regulator. Just make sure you have the correct alternator and it should plug in just like it did to the original Monte alternator. If the plug is one way and the alternator is the other, just get the correct alternator to make it work.
thanks mike that is a huge help. when i got the engine the alternator was busted, so i just used the old one off the monte. the monte was hei so now i will get the resistor. thanks again
Well I do know one thing about them resisters.
If you have one in your wirring for a HEI it will cause it to miss fire after a few seconds of the car being started like my Vette does. Because it starts cutting back on the power and depriving your spark needed. And if you don't have it on a old points set up in a little while you won't have any points left you'll just burn them up. I have replaced every wire on either side of my new MSD in the old Vette except the wire that goes to the key and it's still missing. Took it to a Vette shop for them to fix and it is still missing. It's been a real pain in the behind.
No video yet????
had to give it a rest for 2 days. was working on it so much i made myself sick. part of my ocd. i get to go back to it tonight.
Good move, lady ! I used to have that ocd in a dangerous way and then I aged and it took care of itself, however, I have done some of my best work after walking away for a frew days or whatever.
BTW, KUDOS on the engine swap
thanks melo. thought i had the ocd under control until i caught myself getting sick. i pinched my fingers so bad it made me sick to my stomach but i kept on working. when hubby saw it he raised hell that i had to take a break for a couple of days. i did not realize that i had not ate or slept much in a couple of days. but on the up side it does seem to make my work turn out right if i can stop myself from doing it over and over.
no mater how much we love these cars they are not worth your health
ocd .. with me that`s obsessive compulsive drinking .. though i did quit for 4 days last week
:lol::lol:
LOL..... I'm with ya Hoss! I've been on the wagon for 18 hours now.... ;-)
Man you guys are tough I quit Oct. 28 1985 but there have been MAY times I wished I haden't

Never was a drinker or a smoker.
And that crap they say about extending your life if you stop is bull.
My brother was a adiict smoker and a drinker and after years of doing with out
and being a health nut running every day he's in better shape then me.
After chemo and year of rumatoid arthritis I am ready to throw the towel in.
I should have partied more and run around like a dadgum pirate pillaging and having a fun time. Maybe I'll just get the old wheelchair out throw a patch and a scarf on and go out on the town. I matie!!! HE! HE! HE!
come my way vara. i will pillage with you. you can have the women and i will take the car parts. ARRRRR
you too ntf. hubby just got his boat all straight and we can throw one hell of a party.
I'll bring the iced tea, 7-UP, and a leatherneck if I can find one. The pirates might get a little rowdy.:D:LOL::LOL::LOL:
leave the leatherneck at home. we are in the capital of the south. bring a redneck. they fit in better and know the land.
A patch and scarf and this three colered beard of red greyand brown.
I would probably look just like a Pirate, Maybe I should go and buy a parrot.
HE! HE! HE! Then teach him to say Polly wnts a dragster
Pass me a wrench and who jerry rigged this.
Oh the things we could teach him to say.

That was up around where the coal mines were.
That Big truck of mine sure got some funny looks going down some of
those narrow roads in and out of those mountians.
lol i can imagine. we look funny at everything around here
Hey Barb Just a qwuik question, when you had your valve covers off did you remove the excess casting material. It's around the openings on the inside of the head I had to do that on my 472 and it greatly improves the oil flow thru the engine. It's just papper thin in there and pops right out. You probably already did it, I was just checking.
Kurt
Hey Barb; How is the hand doing now?
Hope the fingers are alright.
Kurt
hand is fine vara. lost my helper. school started and his friends are back so i have to wait for the weekend. have not removed the extra material under the valve covers yet. will do the top of the engine once i get the motor mounts in
Really?Quote:
we are in the capital of the south.
I didn't even consider your state as part of the south....
learn something new everyday.
Drew
 you guys are crazy.
more recent years, has put schools cramming in a lot more history than before ( lots on other countries ).. but even so. I learned about the Mason Dixon line in 4th grade social studies, and IIRC it was on a state test that year, but it was a looong time ago..
know what you mean. kids are not taught the basics these days. just what is going to be on the state test.
i did not think when i made my post but perhaps that part of history is not covered anymore .. it`s been 40 years since i saw a history book
sorry to get off topic barb but along this comment by NTFDAY so many kids today dont realise why us (U.S ) older guys hold such dislike for JAP. products is because our dads fought against them in ww2 .. mitsibitshi ( spelling ) made the engines for the planes that attacked pearl harbor for gods sake ..
no problem hoss. i feel the same way about mercedes
To bad because History often repeats it's self.
Kurt
wow, try to make a joke and get alot of assumptions leveled on my character and knowledge of history....
reason #426 why the internet sucks vs drinking beer in the shop as a means of social interaction with other people.
