hey Barb, you tell that hubby that all your good work will be a waste if you don't have this special socket in your tool box and I sure he will see that you have put too much effort into this car to have it sitting gathering dust because of the price of one socket.
Barb,
Check with your local auto parts store about a loaner socket since it's a "special tool" for sending units. They sell them at AutoZone for $10 (OEM/2 5/8 in. drive oil pressure switch socket (25254) | Socket | AutoZone.com) , but I think many stores keep a loaner in their stash of tools, too.
whip i wore that line out a long time ago. roger i will check into that. ntf i am really good at breaking things. :)
I would think the place that sold you thje sending unit and gauge would loan you the tool.... If not P/M me and I'l mail you mine ON LOAN hahaha
thanks charlie. lol
check and see if the sender has a area below it tht you can get a short wrench on it, if not a small vise grips sometimes will work and you can get it in there and make a 1/4 turn to start with and work it out. the sender is shot so you might as well get it out however you can. at least no distibutor to mess with back there
Barb, tomorrow swing by the Advance Auto store at 100 Winters St there in West Point. There is a socket on hold for you. It is all paid for and is yours. I spoke to Matt at 804-843-4143, he is off tomorrow but it has Barb written on it on the hold shelf.
Enjoy.:)
Don

You're a really nice lady, glad to do it for you. I've gotten so much enjoyment from your build and your spirit of keeping to it, that I had to give something back to you. :D
Now I have to hide the receipt from my cat.:LOL:
Don
lol. thanks again
well guys after taking most of the summer off to work on me and my phobias i am finally going back to work on the monte. so here we go. while the monte was strapped to be pulled back into my garage the strap slipped. it knocked my radiator stop cock a little sideways. not that is leaking. can i just push it back in or is it welded and i have to get another radiator.
Any Radiator Shop should be able to braze that in a couple minutes, it should be a easy fix for them.
Call the differant shops around though because some of them will try to take you to the cleaners. $$$$
It should only be a couple of bucks, like I said it's a easy fix.
Kurt
Actualy if it isn't leaking I don't think I'd bother
thanks guys. it is leaking badly. i miss typed before. guess i will hunt around for a brazer.
make sure you get someone who knows what there doing to much heat and the hole thing will fall apart. Soldering it would be better.
Barb, the guys are right, just find any old time radiator shop and they can solder or silver solder that back on for almost no money. Don't let them tell you that you need more than that, if they are honest they will gladly do it for not much money.
I just took the radiator for my 27 in this week, the top seam was split and they had to silver solder it to try to get some strength back. A nice cuban guy was the worker and when I came to pick it up I asked him if he was the one who did the work, and he said yes. So I slipped him a $ 20 and when the owner of the place saw that he said, your bill is paid ! I told him I couldn't do that, but he insisted. It's nice to know there are honest, nice businesses out there yet.
You won't have any problem getting yours done cheap too.
Don
PS, glad to see you working on the Monte again, it was pretty boring without your posts.:D
thanks don. it does feel good to be back at it.
ok guys now on to my carb problem. i have gone to a electric choke. it is a edelbrock. where and how do i hook up the electric choke. tech told me to hook it up to my windshield motor but i do not know where and he is not posting here anymore. any ideas? thanks.
any thing that is controled by ignition sw. wiper mtr. is a good one you can run a seperate feed from fuse box so long as it is only on with the ignition
you may have a factory wire you can hunt down .. would`nt your car have come with an electric choke originally ?
do not know hoss when i got it it had a manual choke. i have a yellow wire and a pink wire coming out of the firewall. is one of these the original electric choke?
charlie i am a little timid about messing with the fuse box. do not know if everything was wired right when i got it.
now i have found a green wire out of the firewall that is going to nothing.
Hook up a test light to it with the key off and see if it lights up.
If not, try it with the key on. If it works only with the key on, you're good to go.
If its hot key on you would maybe want to use an in line fuse as you wouldn't know where the power source is coming from.
Choke wiring for Edelbrock carbs
dose this help
yes charlie that answers my questions. thank you so much.
Anything for a Navy parent
What else you got left to do on that, Thats gonna be one fun ride when it's done Barb.
Kurt
get the exhaust done. yesterday i found out that i have a leak in the tranny front seal. so it is back to the shop where they welded it in for me for them to change the seal. then to another shop for the exhaust work then hopefully it is done.
They welded in the seal??????
Man ---I've been reading for two hours waiting and hoping the burn out would be long and smoky. This thread reads like a novel. I'm hoping all the bugs you get with a swap are little ones.
I put a 350 in a 1948 International and been chaseing bugs for two weeks, so hang in there it will all come together in thr end.
well guys i have to sell the monte. my dog i got for christmas last year back hips collapsed. he has hip displasia bad. right side a little bit of socket and left side none at all. breaks my heart either way but i am glad to have the car to help my friend out.
Sorry to hear this! But maybe someday another project will come into your life and no matter, you can still hang out with us right?!?!
of course. will never leave you guys. this is my second family
Sorry to hear about your pet...I know how that goes been there and done that.:(:(
