You go girl!!
Just try to keep a few wheels on the ground! :)
i will stovens. :3dSMILE:
yea the rear ones
yes charlie i can hardly wait.
Barb you just kind to go into it with the right attitude…….that at least the first pair of rear tires are kind of sacrificial. :3dSMILE:
Barb,go look for a pair of old tires that have been sitting around for a year or two..Stick those suckers on,cos they will be nice and hard..and will go up in smoke real good...Yee haaa.:cool:**)**)
got a local guy that says that he will keep me in rear tires slightly used for $30.00 each. mounted and balanced. so i am good to go. just have to do the exhaust.
So have we riped up any tires yet????
These women are such teases !!!!!!!!:D:D
Don
no not yet. had a small leak in the back of my power steering pump that i tried to patch with the jb weld stick. when i put the pump back on the block and moved it to tighten the belt the whole pump in the back split. so not i am on hold again until i can find one i can afford that has pullies on it. i hate changing pullies. but on a good note the radiator is fix and last night i traveled outside my safe zone for the first time in 6 years and had a great evening with my friends and family.
okay guys i need some info. ran the engine for about 10 minutes yesterday. my temp gauge went to 180 rather quickly but did not go above that. what i need to know is what tempature should it be running at. also what oil pressure should i be showing?
180 is good and up to 210 is acceptable on these. For oil I like to see a minuimum if 15 PSI at a slow hot idle and you will probably see 40-50 PSI at 2500 rpm.
thanks mike
When you say "rather quickly" Barb, how quickly? Did you change the thermostat? Looks like you are getting some time put on that engine, very good.:)
Don
What Barb is the oil pressure??.
do not know as i have not converted the oil pressure gauge. will do that this afternoon. when i say rather quickly i mean within 10 minutes. when i filled the radiator i did so with antifreeze, water, and 4 ounces of water wetter. when i replaced the thermostat i did so with a 180.
you did good ..
thanks hoss
At least your driving your I haven't got my plates or insurance yet.
not going down the road yet as the exhaust is very loud. though when i idle it in my driveway a few of my neighbors driving by stop in the road to hear it run.:)
Who would have thought our Barb would be the terror of the neighborhood !:LOL:
Barb, something we have started using is Bars Leaks water pump lubricant and anti rust additive. What a difference it makes in how corrosion free the steel parts stay. When we first put Dan's Olds together we just used a 50/50 mix and some water wetter. When we tore the engine apart after that parts like the steel spring inside the radiator hose were already rusted badly. Next time we did it we added the Bars Leak stuff and when we tore the engine out the next time that spring and the inside of the block looked like new metal. We are going to use it from now on. Just thought I would mention it. We were talking to a guy at a car show one night and he says he has been using it for years and the insides of his engines stay like new.
Don
i need that don. thank you. when i flushed my radiator there was some rust coming out of the block and i did not know what to do so i just kept putting clean water in and running the engine then flushing again. will get some tomorrow and use it. thanks again.
Barb, it is cheap too, like $ 3.00 a can that treats 12 quarts of coolant. Autozone and Advance both carry it.
Don
okay so i went and brought a sunpro electrical oil pressure gauge. they said that i also needed the sending unit so i got that too. the sending unit has one end for the electircal and one end for the mechanical to hook up to it. i do not need the mechanical because i am hooing it up ti a wire coming from the engine. but i am being told that i still need the sending unit. how do i hook this up. also this afternoon i have to replace the rear seal on the tranny as it is leaking fluid. so much fun :(
The wire from the engine should be hooked up to an idiot light on the dash, remove it from the idiot light and hook it to one side of the gauge. The other side of the gauge should have a 12 volt source.
Barb. the threaded part of the sending unit screws into the block. the gauge wire will connect to the new sending unit.
thank you guys. that is a huge relief.
Barb, you'll find the oil sender located at the back of the block a little towards the passenger side, below the intake approximatly here.

Just remove the old sender and screw in the new (there is a special socket to remove the factory sender that does make life easier).
thanks mike. been trying all morning to get that thing out. decided to wait until cooler afternoon. this thing is a pain to remove.
If it's the same size as a sbc, it takes a 1 1/16 socket and the deeper the better.
They actualy make a socket for them
thanks guys. was just going to ask what size. :)
thanks ntf. but after busting my knuckles and cutting my arm i am going to see how much one cost this afternoon. hubby might throw a fit though. we will have to see. he is not real keen on me buying one use tools. either the tool or the socket. the highest socket i have is 1"
"..... he is not real keen on me buying one use tools......"
Tell him you'll need it for the NEXT swap too.:LOL:
If I was closer.......... Did the same thing thing many years ago and that is why I have one in my tool box. An 1 1/16 will fit, but the electrical connection will poke through and you won't be able to get an extension or ratchet on it so you can turn it. If you find a 1 1/16 socket just break off the electrical connector on the sending unit unless you plan on using it again.
thanks ntf. wished you lived closer too. i have already broken off the electrical connector trying to get it out. lol
Barb, we are going to teach you a trick we guys have used for years so our spouses don't raise cain................HIDE THE RECEIPT !!!!!!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Don
ntf i think if i told him that i am already thinking about another build he would explode :)
