what year bronco II did you start with? should be a real neat ride
It started life as an '88, so fugly that it started looking better as we took it apart and threw stuff away!!!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

this is a '92 Ranger STX, which parts would fit your bronco II... I have a '92 Ranger XLT but it's not 1/4 as nice, same wheels too.. but there tarnished
No idea just yet, but probably nothing that Ford built.... Too much frontal area. Main reason (well, one of the reasons) for laying the posts back and leaning the sides in was to gain some aerodynamics over and around the A Pillars. Probably something that has a bit lower height on the front of the hood, a lower pan of sorts to smooth the air under the truck, tuck the front tires in a couple inches, and ???????. Who knows? Long time till I get to that end of the sheetmetal. Probably just wait and let the truck tell me what it wants.....Quote:

I get nose bleeds from the altitude in any car with more then 5" of ground clearance. As of now the roof of the Bronco is at 52"---and that's with the body sitting approximately 1.5" above where the ride height will be..... I like em low!!!!!Quote:

Dave what plans for the tranny? Two wheel vs. all wheel drive? I guess for the track probably two? It would be cool to see it made into a pike's peak allwheel drive racer though.!

This morning when I looked at the number crunching Richard did and his results on the proposed engine,... it's back to the drawing board for some mods to the chassis design!!!!   Basically it will be a shortwheelbase 4 bar rear, streetable (always streetable) strut front, 5 speed transmission, full tube chassis car with a mildly customized Bronco II body wrapped around it....still a long way to go, and even some aero considerations to take care of.....
sure sounds like it'll be pretty sweet when it's done, and more far out than any Ranger/ Bronco II build has gone b4... but then again, it won't really be a Bronco II when your done.

All the DMV cares is that the VIN is still alive and well at the base of the windshield and that the title and registration is in order. The state DOT would be the one's wanting to verify that all the safety items are installed and all the lights work.... We have no emissions testing or vehicle inspections. Just like any other car on the road, I will be subject to be stopped by the highway patrol and will have to have a car that meets all their requirements.....
oh, 1 of the lucky states:LOL: we have saftey inspections here for pre '96 vehicles.. emissions equipment must be in tact and match the emissions tag.. it does not have to be operable tho... being '88-up Ranger/ Bronco II are non EGR, as long as you had cats, PCV and the charcoal canister in place under the hood.. your bronco II would pass NYS inspection w/o a problemQuote:

Heck, I could end up with a Hot Rod that the tree huggers like!!!!!!    :LOL:Quote:

I fall into an exempt stautus from smog by the nature of my trucks age. Somebody in it's history put a historic vehicle plate on it(which make me laugh thinking old Henry did'nt think to put a 460 in there for quite a few years after it was built!:D
you never know.. GM has quite a few supercharged engines still. might supprise you.. did the '88 have a charcoal canister?Quote:

with the 2.9 and 5spd, it's a pretty quick truck actully..
Don't remember, Matt.... I didn't waste a lot of time getting the old stuff out. Friend of mine got it all and put it in his son's Ranger---runs like a top I guess... Had the same setup as yours, 2.9 and 5 speed.Quote:

Don't know if mine is still around or not Matt, I'll look and see tomorrow.Quote:

Tom stopped by today on his way home from pheasant hunting to check out his coupe, have to have it ready for him to take home at Thanksgiving time. Should make it.
Helped a friend cut the trunk floor out of a '58 chebbie Bel Air today, nice car!!! Just some surface rust and a few small holes in the floor, the owner wanted to have the whole floor replaced anyway! Sez it's a keeper and warrants getting things done right! Nice car, and I don't even like chebbies!!
->->MATT<-<- Just sent you an email---your PM box is full!

Dave i think your getting softer on these chevy's . Met a neighbor this week end who has four Camaro's at his garage oldest being a 67 but he's is a car guy so its cool . I still love the fords great lines and great name feeds me every week .:)
Dave,
I made it home OK
You were asking me if I knew of a 57 Ford for sale..... well there's a 58 between your place and I-29, its at that place that has all the chrysler products.
About your Bronco front end....... now I know you will most likely balk at this but think of the design of a 67 Chev pickup. The 69 and up were boxy like your Bronco but the 67s were quite streamline. I saw a 70 chopped and the guy put the 67 front end on it, looked pretty nice.
Thanks for all the work you've done on my coupe, I just wanted to stay there and keep rubbing my hands over it's smooth body:whacked:
What a contrast!
How about this Yamaha Venture........ it a "big bike" **) :whacked: :eek:Quote:

Your coupe looks great, Tom! Dave, I wish we lived closer.
Well, started taking Tom's coupe apart to do the last of the primer on it. Still have some work to do on the front fenders and doors, but coming along quite well.
Put in a couple more hours on the Bronco II, nothing major just cutting out some more of the rear window channel and replacing it with 20 ga. Got a price back on the moly tubing for the frame, looks like it will run about a grand for materials....and should end up with a bar chassis that weighs 300 pounds, probably about 130 pounds lighter than the same car built with DOM. Probably $400- $500 more to use moly, but for a stronger and lighter chassis guess I'll probably go that way.... Hope to get going on it and the 'maro when Tom's coupe is back at Tom's house.....
Still tuning and tweaking on Tom's coupe, still have to finish up the doors and the deck lid, still going quite well....
Decided the rear window openings on the Bronco II needed a bit of reinforcement to keep the new sheetmetal from being all floppy and nasty so I made some out of some .063 aluminum strips 1 1/2" wide. I'm going to glue and rivet them to the brackets I made on the window openings, then when I get the sheetmetal fit to fill the old window opening I'll glue it to the 3 aluminum strips and weld the outside.... With the extra supports, think I'll stick with the diet theme and just use 22 ga. for the filler panels...It's lighter!!!!!!!
