It's a MS chassis. I think it's gonna' end up on the heavy side by the time I get everything hung on it. I'm at about 1750 or so now. Hoping to stay under 3g. But if it gets a little heavy I'm not worried cuz' it is Chevy powered
Yeah, well ya know I've got to be messin' with ya!
Think I'm gonna plunk down the $$$$$ and go moly for the Bronco II. I think if I stick with a good diet I can keep it around 2400 or so using either a Windsor or a modular for power, heck might even join the 21st centruy and run EFI and a supercharger!!!! Gonna be a long winter, and too much time to sit around and think!!!!!

Worked a bit on Tom's coupe today, the rear fenders are finally starting to resemble rear fenders!!!!! Also did a bit more on reinforcing the top sill and tieing things together up there. Hey Tom, did you want square or round tubes for your cross bows??? I think we discussed it, but you forgot to have me write it down in my notes!!!!!
Square tubes.
As long as your E-mail isn't working I going to give you some measurements on here. Paul a guy I met at "Back to the 50s" several years ago has a 27 T Tudor with a Buick V6, 4" dropped axle, 4 bar, and a stock T frame, and full fendered.... I liked everything about his car. I asked him how he got his "Rake" and how the tires fit so good in the front fenders.
He has 195/70R14 in the front and 255/70R15 in the back, from the highest point on the bottom edge of front fender to the ground is 25 1/2 inch, this was measured at the top of the curve in the wheel well. The lowest point of the front of the fender to the ground is 17 3/4 inches. From the bottom of the radiator bottom cover to the ground is 9 3/4 inches.
I attched a couple of pictures of his car which doesn't show much but he's sending me more pictures in the mail, hopefully they make it here some time this week so I can show them to you when I stop my this coming Sunday afternoon.
Thanks Tom!!!! As for the top bows, I forgot what you said, did you want to use round tubing???????
Square tubing.Quote:

I've got fond memories of him pulling out of the driveway into traffic with his T's.....clogging up traffic and getting an occasional honk in anger....all the while Mr. Cotton would just grin and give a toot back...guess that was ooogah!. I really liked those cars.
Yesterday I got the drivers side pillar/front cab corner more or less finished. Filled the void where the drip edge was. Got rid of the lead for the most part and welded the pillar lower to the cowl. Man that metal is real hard to weld with lead in it. Took some serious cleaning. If I knew it was going to be that hard I would re-leaded it instead.
Today. Going to finish the passenger side and get the rest of the floor in it so I can get the steering/brakes/dash finished. I'm sure this is a no brainer but.....I've smothed my dash up and going to tilt the bottom back quite a bit. I concidered just welding the dash in permenant. I'm in a tailspin trying to decide. Any thoughts?

You guys can always put a smile on my face and it feels good . I'll never be at the level i was before daughters mishap but you lift my spirits with this comradery .
If you'll still have room to install the gauges, heater and other things that go in and around the dash, I'd say weld it.... worst it can do is make the whole structure a bit less prone to flex.Quote:

I know I'm at a point where I have to make solid decisions now.... :LOL:Quote:

[QUOTE=Stovebolter]Whats max speed on the stock T Tom?
Some say 48 mph for a car and 28 for trucks. I had mine going 42 (on a GPS)this summer with 4 big adults. That's kinda hard on the engine. The 26/27 closed car Ts were the heavest of all the years they built them. Today I again drove it out to my son's place against a heavy north west wind, had my thoughts if it would make it.
My son compares the Model T to a Harley; parts are all ways falling off...... the lug nuts and wheel last week and yesterday the oil breather cap - found it today on the highway though :whacked:
Can hardly wait till the coupe is done and on the road....... wasn't planning on putting a heater in it but changed my mind after driving today without one..... 40 degress and that strong NW wind.... brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I recall the first car I ever drove was a 27 Chev (contemporary to the T.)
With sticky valves we had it doing 45 on the speedo down a gravel road.....but it seemed like 100. Scary as hell.
a local guy in town had a '27 Doctors coupe. rarely drove it, but when he did, he never took it very far, we had gotten stuck behind him once. was only doing about 40 or so. didn't have the heart to pass him, so we went a few miles till he pulled over to let us buy... he died a few months ago, and his son sold the car to some other locals who nobody is really fond of.. but nobody is real fond of his son ither.. but he was cool
Ya it was pretty scarry diving it today with that wind, thought it might tip me over a couple of times; the weatherman said the wind was up to 60 mph today, funny it didn't push me backwords
If anyone would like to go for a ride in it... come on over, shucks I'll even take you to see the SPAM musemum
Now who could turn down an invite like that?????? Free samples of SPAM too, I bet!!!Quote:

Yeah, I still like it! I do remember when I was in the Air Force and going to Tech School in Wichita Falls, Tx. one of the penalties paid for taking a weekend trip to Dennison to party usually resulted in SPAM and peanut butter being the snack of choice until pay day rolled around again!!!!!! Was it worth it??? You betcha!!!!!!
Spam is great stuff! Fry it cubed up with some potatoes, scrambled eggs, and add tobasco sauce.

Today when I was driving the old stock T home I heard this loud CLUNK; I thought now what?
After loosing that left wheel last week, I all ways tighten the lug nuts up before taking it for a drive, so I hop out and tighten them up but done were loose. I get back in and drive another hundred yards and it goes CLUNK again. Jump back out, look under the car and everything looked OK. So only being mile from home I drive real slow and keep it in low gear. I got it in the garage, clawled under the T wiggling things, and got to the Right front wheel and it was loose..... the inner bearing and race were dry and quite hot. I know I have extras around but can't find them so now I have to order them. Ratz looks like I'll have to ride my motorcycle again for another week or so.
I would imagine you logged some miles on the big Yamaha while enjoying today's absolutely gorgeous weather, Tom!!!!!! btw, what is the current mileage and how goes the contest?Quote:

Sounds like Fred has really logged some miles!!!! What an animal!!!!! Anxiously awaiting the pics of yours at 99,999.9, going to have fun showing them to my Yamaha rep buddy!!!!!
The coupe is coming along nicely, heck the rear fenders even match now! Did you get the pics I emailed you yesterday, Tom????
OH, I forgot that you don't get E-mails..... I sent you a reply right away. I said: WOW !!! I'm empressed that the fender looked soooooooooooooo good.
Hope you don't mind that I show your handywork on here, but the picture tells it all.
Fred put on more than 35,000 miles this year on his Venture, last year it was over 42,000 the picture of him was taken a year ago last Spring, on the south side of Lake Superior when I drove up there to Yooper land to work on my bike.
Looks a bit chilly to be biking! It's great to see a motorcycle with 100k! I had an old Honda 750 with 60k, and my current Harley has about 65k and still runs strong, just needs a lttle suspension work!:)
Wow. I'm impressed too! When I worked for Kawasaki I bought a ZX7RR in November. Got to uncrate and put it together...if you can call it that. There's not much to put togther. By the time spring rolled around I had already logged 5000 long, very cold miles on it. You fella's have got some reeaaal thick skin. :D
I rememberrrrrrrr a 1 hr trip home from Fayetteville in 25 degree weather. We had to stop in a little town called Dry Fork just to get warm. Upon stopping I tried to put my feet down but they didnt respond. Down to the ground went bike and I. Legs cramped up. Couldnt feel them. Of coarse you fella's have fairings...but I'd still concider you tough with that weather in the North.

Just to date myself a bit, the year Tom's Venture was built was the same year I went to my last Yamaha new bike school......   Even got to have one very similar to Tom's as a demo that year.... gettin' old, ain't I??????
Naugh Dave! We age to perfection is what my granmother always said. Its just a shame we dont live much much longer. :D

I went to my first Yamaha school in 1970. I went to my last one in 1984. I did nothing but bikes the first half of my life. :)
I'm puttin' around now on this '04 V-Star 1100 Yammy.
Daver. :3dSMILE:
Nice looking bike!!!
I had a 2001 V-Star 650 that looked almost exactly like yours. The 650 didn't have enough power so I sold it and got my '88 Venture. This is my 5th season on it and I've put over 50,000 miles on it. This one is the second '88 Venture that I've had, the other one was identical even the same color.

Oh yeah, and one quick burst on the new design Kawasaki Concours--very smooth, very fast, and totally redesigned from the old 1000cc Concours. Would make a great tour bike---on the Autobahn!
....yer' right, Dave....the 1100 didn't have much steam. I put the Vance and Hines exhaust on mine and tweaked the carbs. It runs much better now. As you can see, my scoot is set up for solo flight, so I get around OK on it. :D
Besides....I got all the go-fast stuff out of my system in the 70's. That's all we did at the Yamaha shop....worked on, and raced bikes. Early on, I raced Bultacos....then I switched to the Yammies. :D
Daver.
I cut my teeth riding in the Hare and Hound (aka 'Harescrambles") series. Loved it so much I quit my industrial maintenence job and started turning wrenches for Kaw. Started running with the 'rocket' crowd. I've ridden soo many bikes...but my most inspired was the Mr. Turbo charged Hayabusa. 220 mph and she was just starting to stretch her legs. I decided after that....to chill and place four tires under me. My favorite bike was the new gen ZX9. What a machine.
I dont how you guys rode the bikes in the 60's/70's. Suspension technology was barely existent. I helped a guy restore a mid 70's Hodaka Super Combat and rode it a few times. Made me grin when I got back on my KLX650C2 desert bike. Even it didnt have the suspension my mx bike had.
Man...you guys have me daydreaming about bikes again.
I'd be more likely to graduate to a big bike now....love the Roadking...its just a bit big for my scrawney bod. More likely to be interested in a Dyna Low rider now.
Daver. Gotta love those two stoke road bikes! Also helped do a restore on a 72 Kaw H2 Mach IV. Love those two strokes!
Dave G
Daver, we certainly have come a long ways since those days, huh??? I played with a couple of the old 350 Yamahas in a variety of configurations resembling road racers, unfortunately around here there was just no place to race them (well, legal places anyway).
One of my most favorite bikes "back then" that I would love to duplicate today was a Norton 750 Commando! Had one and thought it was the baddest thing on the planet.... Turned it over to one of the local tuners for a bit of engine and suspension work, and for it's day it was very, very fast!!!!
Now it's so easy to just walk into a dealership and buy a ready built racer, don't know if it would be fun anymore or not... Though I do remember a couple of differet wannabe racers who plunked down Daddy's cash for their brand new racer (one an R-6 and the other on a Ninja) who proceeded to dump their brand new toys within a mile of the dealership, one in the driveway about 20 yards out of the shop!!!!!
I know what you mean. The truly scarey part....these bikes will drop a 10 sec quarter and will easily go beyond 170. Really...who are these bike for? Our young folks with very little experience...thats who. For a short time I rode with a group of 50+ bikers (hoolagin rocket racers)....I can tell you I saw some real stupid stuff. Then one by one over the course of a year they were dropping like flies until the count got to nine. 4 dead and 5 that wished they were. I dont mean to sound insensitive....but these guys were really asking for an accident. I finally came to my senses, realizing I was 32 years old and had two boys that depended on me and that I loved more. I was told that I was old and boring. In one sentence I said "I love old and boring!"...and payed my new found buddies a farewell. I do miss the gutwrenching addrenaline rush....but I'm happier knowing I got to see my boys grow up. Wish these guys would save it for the track....I dont like seeing any1 busted up like this.Quote:

Spent a bit of time on the Bronco this evening. Getting rid of the window channel for the side windows in preperation for the new skin that will be installed instead of the glass. Going to be a kewl little truck, but as with all projects, quite labor intesive!!!!
