retired : no job, no boss, no money
Steve,
I know what you mean about house work taking up too much time, 100º/º to 0º/º hot rod in my case:( BTW, saw some Petaluma flooding pics, hope you are high and dry. I used to live about 1/2 mile from Santa Rosa creek years ago and was wondering what you have heard about that.
Jack.
For some reason the full timers get a little testy when I use that phrase.:o
Retired for almost two ears now, but I still work at the same place (up to 960 hours per year) for my hotrod money. That works out to about 18 hours per week. I can work 5 days a week or take six months "off" and still have a "job" to go back to. It don't get much better than that.:D:D:D
Jack no flooding here, but lots of water. Been working last few evenings, so I've missed most of the local news about this string of storms giving us some well needed water, a bit faster than we wanted! :)
It would seem the no good low life who did all the gouging with a key or whatever on the hood and front fenders of my pickup last summer also decided to "add" a little something to my gas tank! Haven't drained it yet, but just taking a whiff through the filler car it kind of smells oily??? Maybe some dirty oil, or possibly diesel fuel? Oh well, I guess I needed to drain and flush the (brand new 1 1/2 years ago) gas tank anyway!!!!!
Finally got around to getting the pickup put in the garage! Had to wait til today when it snowed just enough to make everything brutally slippery!!! Because of crud in the tank we had to tow it instead of drive it, then winched it into the garage. Had my pal Craig help me, then just after we got it inside a couple other guys showed up to help us sit around and watch the snow melt off of it!:LOL: Anyway, time to get my "things to do on the pickup" list back out and get it put together---finally!
Got a few things done on the pick-em-up.... Got some bed-liner rolled onto the box floor, sanded out the rest of the gouges on the hood, started sanding the roof. I've got a small dent to take out of the roof, looks like it was hit with a heavy stick, shovel handle or the like. There was a small crease in the body line above the windshield but a little dingin' with the body hammer and slapping spoon took care of it. Probably be able to take the headliner out and smooth out the rest of it. Dang vandals! It would probably be better for all concerned if I never find out who the little chicken**** was that did the damage!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Dave I understand completely. My car was victim to a hit and run, either in front of my house or at work(get off late and it's dark!). Went out next day and front fender scraped and dented, front bumper gouged and scrathed paint and plastic on the little MR2. Called police to report it and took it to body shop1200.00 bucks later just got it back this week. In my youth my Mom was backing out of a tight Sears parking lot and nicked the car next to her. She stopped the car, got out a pen and paper and left a note with her insurance info and phone number. This is how we were taught as kids. I have never been the recipiant to a note or anyone fessing up to any damage to any vehicle I own, people just feel if they get away they won. So in similar respects... If I catch the Chicken #$%@ who hit me................:)
Sad that folks seem to think this kind of stuff is o.k. I'm sure in your case if one of the vandals had somebody vandalize their vehicle, they'd have a huge rage hissy fit, but they just don't get that by doing it themselves, that it's not o.k.
Anyway... lookiing foward to seeing all the mods finished on the old Ford truck, I remember you posting some mods you started to the bed of the truck. Now you need to get a camera and share! ;)
I guess I'll never understand why someone would even want to mess with another guys ride, just makes no sense to me either, Steve! I like my old pickup, but I sure do hate doing things twice on it!
I'd like to get me a new camera today, unfortunately just not the right time of the year to part with the money!!! As usual, I have too much money stuck in too many different projects! After the vandalism to the old pickup I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for it. Probably going to finish it up, make it shiny again and just sell the thing and move on to other projects.
That sucks, Dave! I had a blue 72 Monte Carlo years ago that someone took a can of red spraypaint to while I was sleeping. I was messing around on my girlfriend at the time so I figured either she put someone up to it or the boyfriend of the gal I was messing with did it but regardless I was hacked off. There was a Hardees commercial on a while back of a kid with an early Chevelle eating a burger while some guy with a buffer was trying to buff the word "Cheater" off the side of his car that was written in spray paint. I had to laugh at that one.
Mine was parked on a residential street in a Denver suburb and some kid walked down the street with a can of red spray paint, and put a line down the side of every car on the street. I came home, took the car to a detailer and he used a buffer & soft compound to buff it out, better than it had been before. Later I got married, and my father-in-law was a used car wholesaler. He shared that he often used oven cleaner to clean up paint on paint, even taking a sign painter's work off the side of a commercial truck and putting it back to original without any re-painting. Thought that was pretty neat, but never had occasion to try it after that one experience.
Managed to get both dents out of the roof of the pickup that were on the body line edge with just the dingin' spoon. Still have a couple small dents in the roof to work out, have to drop the headliner out and get them out of their tomorrow, then the roof and hood will be ready for primer again. Also got some hinges made for the fiberglass bed cap today. Had to shorten the cap 2 1/2" to make it fit the box correctly, it's almost ready to 'glass back together. Probably get the primer shot before I start making a lot of dust from the 'glass! I'll hopefully get things wet sanded and ready for sealer by the first of the week.
Can't help but think you made some "special" friend(s)..... Sucks when someone takes it out on your property rather than stand in front of you and speak your piece. Oh well, it's to late to cry 'bout it! Hope you get a camera soon too! Sucks not seeing your handiwork!!
ditto! At least your makin headway!
Today I started replacing rockers and cab corners on my daily driver. I hope they last as long as the orignals (20 yrs.)
I to must have made special friends. I had a 1969 Chevelle in high school that someone took sand paper to.
Me too, they stole my mag wheels and tires right off the car!
Well, here's how my Sat. evening went workin' on the old pick-em-up;
1. Ding and ping the last of the boo-boo's out of the roof-----check
2. Go over the top and hood one more time with 320 to make sure everything is scuffed good for primer-----check
3. Carefully sweep up the dust using sweeping compound-----check
4. Mask off and tape the truck-----check
5. Wipe everything down twice with Prep-Sol----check
6. Make sure the exhaust fan isn't blocked and is working------check
7. Go over to the bench, get out the epoxy primer and the catalyst-------oops!!!!
7PM, no catalyst, paint store closed at 3PM. give up, turn down heat, shut off the lights and compressor, go in the house and wait til Monday........check............:(:(:(
Wake up Sunday morning and sip some coffee while playin' with the kids!!! - CHECK! :D
1)Wake up Sunday an realize you don't have wine yeast for 5 gallons of fresh cider sitting outside in the cold! 2)Plan trip 10 miles south to remedy the situation in one. 3)Clean many bottles to bottle batch of fermented Pear Cider. 4) plan nice dinner to be ready after Matinee showing of the Hobbit! :)
Scratch the Hobbit until Friday too much to do! :)
Dave how much recleaning by letting the car sit two days?
All of it!!!!
passenger side ready for paint
post #6307 working on my 93 GMC pickup. Going to try getting 20 more years out of it I guess no project is ever done. You just stop working on it.
Watch out Charlie! Randy will be "asking" for pictures next! rofl..
:LOL: By now that should go without saying, Mike. If I post on your thread it means I'm requesting pics whether I ask for them or not!!:LOL:
Which reminds me.....Dave (Severson), are we going to have to take up a collection to get you another camera?? You've been doing a lot of work lately without any visual proof of it!! We gotta see what you're up to!!!:LOL::LOL:
ready for paint on this side
Well, got the roof, hood, racer back fairing and tailgate for the pick-em-up back in primer----again... Might shoot some hi-build on the roof and block it again. I don't think it really needs it but one more trip over it blocking sure won't hurt anything, I guess...
I meant to get this done on Monday, but had a priority come up---they were short 1 guy for a pinochle tournament at the rec center yesterday!!!!
Heck, a guy has got to have priorities, right??????:whacked::whacked::LOL:
All work and no play.?.?.? Yep. a mans got to have his priorities! rofl..
Then there's the beer tasting tournament!
Ice Fishing??? Wet Sanding???............... BEER TASTING!!! :D:LOL:
can I get some bar-b-que with that? :whacked:
I'm glad it's finely out Retirement is such hard work and a mentel strain
Well, the report of the results from yesterday's ice fishing were quite poor, guess it's back out in the garage for me!!!
Finally got back out in the garage and did some sanding on the pickup. The roof and hood are wet sanded with 400 and ready for sealer and paint, covered the cab with some plastic masking sheet and started on the box. Got the left side of the box done with 320 to open everything up and get rid of the clear coat, some "wounded" spots needed fixing, got them done and moved over to the right side....seems to be about the same amount of work required over there. Once done with the 320 I'll wet sand the box with 400, touch up the sand through spots with epoxy then shoot the box sides with sealer. I really hate having to spend the time and money redoing everything, guess it's the penalty for parking my own stuff outside and working on other people's stuff....almost starting to like my pick-em-up again, anyway!!!! Think I'll just paint the whole thing white this time, maybe add some red pinstripes or something simple....?????
Also, ordered a set of blueprints for my next bracket racer chassis;
Cool chassis.. what do you think the motor/drivetrain combo will be? And then, of course, what body?
