Yeah cars are nothing compared to family and friends , Pat we have many blessings but family is number one .
.
Yeah, I told him no big deal on the car; Im just glad he walked away. It really worked out for me; I bought my brother in laws Grand Am for him and I put this back together for me to drive to work. I have an hour drive each way so going from a full size Silverado to this will pay for itself in gas pretty quick. As soon as the windshield guy comes over and puts glass in it's ready to go back on the road.
Did some cleanup in the garage and putzing around on the 49 today; a little sanding, adjusting the doors, got the motor on a stand and started taking the covers of to check the vitals. Im going to start on the other side this week.
Nice Red! :)
Busy, Busy, Busy!!!!! Good to hear your son came out of the wreck ok, should make a cheap commuter for you though!
Not very motivated today but I did make this to go over the big hole in the trunk that I had cut for the fuel tank. Im trying to decide weather or not to pull the heads on this motor, take a peek at the cylinders and change the gaskets before I put it in. Gaskets are pricy for these SHO motors; they want $350 for a head gasket set with the upper gaskets. But then again if I get it all together and have a problem because I didn't check..........
If you just want a look at things, you could rent a bore scope (miniature TV cam) and look through the spark plug holes and intake at the carb base. $10 - $15 dollar rental could save you a bunch and ease your mind.
TIMES 2!! Scope is a very good idea... I've borrowed one off a plumber friend and it worked great!
Falcon what body is this didn't notice the roof till just recent , is it a 3 window or club coupe of some type ?
.
For what it's worth,falcon..The 302w we bought for Lynda's customline,,was a good runner,,but I felt uneasy about something,,so ended up pulling the intake off and found lots of silver flecks in the valley..Off came the heads,,and pan,,pulled the rod caps,,and found them all in good nick,,with the exception of number 7..Took it to a friend's engine reco shop,,and he called me back about a week back and said there was a small problem in number 7 bore,,and it had to be bored out,,so it looks like we go a step further now,,and it will be coming back as a 347...:cool:If it doesn't feel good in ya head,,answer the call..
I know you can't do it for the oil that was in the engine when you got it, but another alternative is to start it up, get it all warmed up right, run it through the rpm range a few times and have the oil analyzed - Same Day Oil Analysis, Oil Testing and Filter Analysis of Debris. (I don't know ANYTHING about this lab, it's simply the first one that popped up when I Googled "Engine Oil Analysis") It's widely used for predictive/preventative maintenance in the military and lots of fleet applications. They can pinpoint metal in microscopic sizes, and by the type can tell you the likely source, like cylinder, rings, bearings, cams. Just a thought....
I like those with that style and less windows .
.
Got some primer on the decklid tonight; im hoping to have the whole back end in primer by the weekend.
Com-in along just fine falcon , go you still have the 48 ??
.
I understand the distraction factor(some say it's a trait of Geminis) I'll make some headway, then have some project needing immediate attention, or get distracted with a quick fix item, next thing you know months have gone by. The important part is getting back to it when you can! Nice progress. Steve.
Must be a trait of us Crabs too..??..?? 'Cause I'm guilty! :-)
I am probably the biggest distraction king , jumping from one project to the next .
.
Decided to go ahead and shoot the bottom of the decklid and trunkjamb while it was taped off.
Eye catcher RED! :)
looking real good now
Woo Hoo.. It's close now! That's a great color too!
They'll see you coming, for sure! Looking good!
Lots of good progress, really like the color!
Thanks! Now for lots of wet sanding; I hope to shoot the whole car in a couple of weeks.
It looks really nice! you are hitting it hard! Are those blisters on your fingers?
That's about what my fingers look like! Wet sanding sucks; for sure. I got the back half finished today and put a little spot putty on some nicks and scratches. Now for the doors, top, and front clip. I got the front clip on some saw horses today so i can start on it next. A big plus to all this was the guy i bought the car from had done the body work and primered the front clip, hood, and rear fenders; and did a pretty nice job. The rear fenders sanded out nice and the rest of his work looks just as good.
That is a great color.
,
really enjoying this build I looks and sounds like Your having fun.
It doesnt look much different from the last picture but there's a lot of hours in sanding since then. I got the whole car sanded and decided to pull the front clip apart rather than tape around everything that was black. I think the results will be better. I went ahead and patched the old trim holes at the bottoms of the fenders as that piece of trim is being eliminated. I'm off work tomorrow and hope to make some serious progress.
nice work
it will show when painting is done
I haven't done headders yet, but I have a concern: when you weld up the tubes, does shrink cause strain on flange, and could it warp?
