Thanks, I felt much better today and was able to get a lot more done. I finished the underhood wiring and installed the cooling fan and bled the brakes. For some reason one of the back calipers is not getting fluid; I'll have to figure that out. Even still, it's got a good solid pedal. The stock wheels wouldnt fit over the disc brakes so I pulled a set of steel wheels off of a Crown Vic last time I was at the boneyard. I've got a set of full wheel Plymouth hubcaps, i'll just use those and get some fresh rubber. I didnt like the rearward angle on the shifter so I cut it and welded it back together to be more upright. Im real close to a road test; just need to get a driveshaft made and put an exhaust system together. A couple of bummer notes; my cool old tach doesnt work  and Im having a fuel gauge issue. I've got a new VDO 0-90 ohm gauge and a 0-90 ohm sending unit. I dumped about 3 or 4 gallons of gas in the tank and I read 34 ohms on my meter going from the sending unit to ground. I checked it up at the gauge and I read the same from the sensor terminal to ground. But when I turn the ignition on, the gauge goes past full. Any ideas???
Looks great, Falcon! Did you check the sender before you installed it? The first one I got for my pickup was FUBAR right out of the box! Good ground from the tank to the frame???
I was going to say check the ground also... other than that.. test the sender somehow.
Yeah falcon I have been watching the bone yard and C. L. for some early mid 80's C V wheels from a squad 15 X 7 solid and no holes . .
That's pretty much what these are, Bobby. They came off of an 02 CV Police car. It looks like my sending unit on the fuel gauge is bad; I ran the gauge through the tests in the book and it shows good. I got all my lights wired and working and swaped out the tach for new one. Now that its working I can do the cam break in as soon as I get some exhaust on. I've got everything to build the exhaust, just going with basic 2 1/2 inch duals with Summit glass packs and pipes out the rear.
Very nice work! It's taking shape quite nicely!
Thanks! I hope to have exhaust on this weekend.
It's looking really good!
.
It's definitely getting there, Mike. Lots done this weekend; I got the lead pipes and mufflers on and did the cam break in. Other than a leaky water neck on the intake it went smooth; ran for 20 minutes, vital signs all looked good and cooling fan came on at the right temp. I got the water neck fixed and finished some small wiring issues like tail lights, dome lights, instrument lights, and wipers. Im going to get a driveshaft made up this week and should be able to do a short road test down the block by next weekend.:D
Congrats on the light up!!!!! All I got to do all weekend is sanding, sanding, sanding......then some more sanding.........:LOL::LOL:
Well, I was really hoping for a test cruise this weekend but it looks like my slave cylinder for the clutch is bad. I've got a new one on the way; in the meantime I finished up the exhaust and got the driveshaft installed. It sounds really good; so close to driving!
progress is progress.. it is coming together should be fun to drive
nice exhaust work falcon
.
This is one of those "stressful" times... so close to going down and out the driveway under power... a million thoughts go through your head about all the things that could happen..
Here's hoping your first ride goes smooth and relatively quiet and free of any problem(s).
Going to be a fun car to mess with the boys in!!!!! Shakedown drives always lead to adjustments and tweaks, but it sure is fun to have a project moving under it's own power for the first time!!!!!!
Several years ago myself and one of my employees were replacing a heat pump in the ceiling of a doctor's office. It was about 3am and we were both half dazed from the late hours. Our heat pumps were 480 volt but the replacement they had sent was 208 volt. Of course neither of us bothered to check the tag when we hooked it up. I was on a ladder and turned on the disconnect to check it. The transformer didnt seem to particularly like the extra 272 volts and went off like a 12 gauge. I went backwards off the ladder, crashed on the desk, and hit the floor. Once I figured out i was ok and we hadn't destroyed anything; it was pretty funny. I owned up to my stupidity at the next days shop meeting and wrote "Beware of the Kaboom" on the board. So every time I start up some new equipment or take a project down the road for the first time, I still have the words "Beware of the Kaboom" going through my head.
Cool story (considering you didn't get hurt to bad!) But yeah, when you least expect it Mr. Murphy grabs ya by the short hair!
Looking real nice,falcon..Should be able to fool a few people on the street with that ol moredoor..:D I remember a similar model that was built up in my old neighborhood, when I was in my early 20's..Stock body, dumb original grey paint, stock wheels n caps,,and running a SBC and auto.. Boy,did that car cause probs with a lot of guys..:LOL:
This is just not my week to get a test drive in; I got new rubber all the way around, got the clutch fixed and was ready to head down the road but it's been raining ever since and supposed to stay that way until Wednesday. Bummer; but on the other hand we could sure use the rain. So in the meantime I started cleaning up and painting hood hinges and parts so I can put the hood back on. I did pull it out of the garage; did a quick 2 or 3 second burnout, and pulled it back in so I could get a taste. :3dSMILE:
1 decent burnout equals 20 blocks of normal driving!!!!!!
You bet...Finally, a trip down the street accomplished!!! I need to bleed the brakes some more but it felt pretty darn good to have it move under its own power!
There, let the cruizin' began!!!!!
I hope it was un-insured. That always makes the test drive more interesting
All of the above; no plates, insurance, hood, air cleaner, and spongy brakes. It was fabulous.;)

:D:D:D
After several trips down the road im really happy with how this thing came out. I gave her a good bath and except for a few tweaks here and there this is how she's going to stay for the forseeable future. Im not going to worry about uphostery for now; might takle that a bit at a time later. I think I am going to run a buffer across it and see if I can bring the paint alive a little more. I'm going to try a Corvette manual disc/disc master cylinder. Brakes are ok but no matter how much I bleed them they are still spongy and you've got to pump them. The master cylinder I have on there is from a four wheel drum setup; I just used it because I had it laying around. Also my front shocks are bottoming so I ordered some shorter ones but other than that I'm diggin it and ready to rack up some miles. It sounds great and I was suprised by how much pep the old 318 has.
I think that master cylinder is bad.
Looks great. That should really fairly light (relatively speakingu happy) and the old 318 will hopefull keep you happy for a while. There is a difference betweeen the drum and disk MCs, a new one will probably cure it. Good going!!!
Congrats on the project and seeing it through. That's so cool...
There will be others suprised by "The pep" Nice build
Congrats on the curizin' Falcon, car should be a blast to play with! The new master cylinder should cure the spongy brake problem.
Thanks, all. As soon as I get my brake issue resolved I'll post a short video.
With lot'sa smoke???? 8-)
Got my new MC on; 100% improvement. :)
