Thanks Steve and Don,I needed to have a laugh to lift me today and you both came through, well done. I'm with Don tho. just surprise her with the engine in the lounge and just promise her a new pair of shoes after the motors been rebuild. After all it is winter:rolleyes:
Don i'm not even gonna ask !!! She goes mental if i put a car part in the kitchen :whacked:
Thanks for sorting the gaskets http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...LEYS/t1523.gif
Whip, Sue mentioned something about Nuts and a sharp knife http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...MILEYS/lol.gif
Forgot to put this pic up, Picked up a bit of stainless 3/8" hex bar so made some valve cover hold downs.

The adapters worked out really nice, Steve!!! Oh yeah, the paint on the valve covers is absolutely double throw down way big kewl!!!!!
Thank's alot.......... Tried out my new drill press today and made part of some bumper brackets with lightning holes. Just when I was pleased with myself, I came in and read this.............. If I wasn't so tired I'd just go chunk those brackets in the scrap pile....... Oh well, you keep me amazed. You sir are a Craftsman.
Yep Lamin8er you are right, I'm inspired.
Mate i would of bought the hold downs if i could have as they took me all afternoon to make & polish http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../pissedoff.jpg
I used the Moon one's once but the chrome fell off them after 2 months.
Cheers for the encouragement http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ILEYS/b231.gif
It's getting harder to find quality bits and pieces. Cheap chrome or sae threads and metric heads. But with your talent it's not as big a problem, except for the time, If you want it done right you just do it yourself. Always wanted to work in a machine shop just so I could learn to do stuff like that. I always have these great little ideas, but no equipment or knowledge to manufacture those little bits. The devil's in the details, and you sure have that covered..............:D
Well sat here with a flu virus feeling bored to hell !!!
Not much progress as I was putting together my short motor until man flu hit
Got the crank back from the machinist, it was in extremely good condition so recieved a polish on the journals and the oilways deburred and it was good to go, The crank hub on a Caddy is a press fit like early Chevys so a tap was put through the hole to ensure nice threads and the hub was honed to a nice slip fit and an ARP bolt/washer scourced. The crank/hub/pistons/rods/balancer & flexplate was then fully balanced.
Clevitte 77 bearing shells were installed and everything assembled with Clevitte bearing guard.

While i was waiting for the crank to come back i amused myself with making a throttle linkage, It has to be quickly removable as i'm having a tilt body so a nipple clip was scourced.

The outer cable sits in a housing that has had a slit put into it so it can be pulled back slightly and removed easily.

The bracket is held in place by the carb hold down nuts/studs, a few holes were drilled to keep the theme and to make it less clunky looking.

I had made a return spring bracket earlier but every time i looked at it i hated more and more, It just didn't look right so i thought about it and came up with a bracket that fitted the theme better.

Got my regulator cover back from plating, bit of a problem with this as it was an original and well pitted so i got what i could out and sent it for plating, my mate the bigbossman is working on a decal to go on the front and cover the defects.
Masked up the base plate and painted it white so it blends in with the firewall where it will sit.

.
Hope you are feeling better from the flu bug, Steve. Lots of that going around.
I may have missed it, but what was the purpose of the valve cover to head spacers............rocker clearance?
As always, shockingly beautiful work. :)
Don
Thanks Don, Sue has been keeping me dosed up with flu remedys and she looks great in a nurses outfit http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...hubbahubba.gif
The original covers were longer Don and i wanted to use the earlier covers plus they give more clearance as a bonus http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/aerobics.gif
Ah, the old "I'm not feeling well honey, put on your nurses outfit" trick. You sly dog, you!:LOL:
Don
Heck Steve, you bet me to the nurses uniform comment, damn, oh well you just drag that man flu out abit longer eh.
Way back too many years ago when we were having things chrome plated that hed little pits etc in them,I was taught to braze them and then file and finish with fine sand paper.
Now correct me if I'm misled, but this is a T Coupe with doors,so why do you want the body to tilt, ooh yeah, that's right,I remember now, you are an Englishman and you fella's do things different.:whacked::rolleyes::LOL:
More great looking detail work on top of the engine Steve!!!! Thanks for the inspiration, keeps all of us on are toes!!!!
Steve, hope you feel better soon. Your throttle spring bracket is exactly what I was talking about in an earlier post. I would be tickled to turn out one as nice as the first one. But off to the rubbish bin. But I hope you like the second one, it's killer.......... But those little details, and the willingness to redo and redo again is what makes for a super nice car.
Hi Whip. I feel a bit better this morning so hopefully its going :)
Yes i also fill the pits in but the braze can show through as a goldy tinge in the chrome, this cover is very very thin and was blueing up as soon as the mop went near it, on reflection i could of got one of the american guys here to maybe pick me up a new one.
Are you referring to the blond..............or the ewe?
:D
Bob,
I wish I had your stash of bawdy but tasteful pics. Sounds like a little work in Photo Shop is due to make something for Whip.
Steve,
Every new post you make gives me another previously unthought of idea. Hope you don't mind if I steal a few of them.:) Those throttle and return spring brackets may just turn up on the engine in my coupe.:cool:
Jack.
No problem Jack, i'm stoked that you think they are good enough to copy http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../happy0034.gif
Steve,
Thanks for your permission to steal. In addition, could you give me and the others the low down on your procedure for polishing stainless, type and grade of compound, etc.
Thanks,
Jack.
Bob actually had THAT nurse picture???????? Bob???????? OUR Bob?????? I think I had better contact Unsolved Mysteries........Bob has been abducted by aliens and some clone (with better taste in women) has taken his place!!!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Don
Between Steve's Build and Bob's nurse............ I'm feeling a little feverish myself..................:D
