It's getting harder to find quality bits and pieces. Cheap chrome or sae threads and metric heads. But with your talent it's not as big a problem, except for the time, If you want it done right you just do it yourself. Always wanted to work in a machine shop just so I could learn to do stuff like that. I always have these great little ideas, but no equipment or knowledge to manufacture those little bits. The devil's in the details, and you sure have that covered..............

Well sat here with a flu virus feeling bored to hell !!!
Not much progress as I was putting together my short motor until man flu hit
Got the crank back from the machinist, it was in extremely good condition so recieved a polish on the journals and the oilways deburred and it was good to go, The crank hub on a Caddy is a press fit like early Chevys so a tap was put through the hole to ensure nice threads and the hub was honed to a nice slip fit and an ARP bolt/washer scourced. The crank/hub/pistons/rods/balancer & flexplate was then fully balanced.
Clevitte 77 bearing shells were installed and everything assembled with Clevitte bearing guard.
While i was waiting for the crank to come back i amused myself with making a throttle linkage, It has to be quickly removable as i'm having a tilt body so a nipple clip was scourced.
The outer cable sits in a housing that has had a slit put into it so it can be pulled back slightly and removed easily.
The bracket is held in place by the carb hold down nuts/studs, a few holes were drilled to keep the theme and to make it less clunky looking.
I had made a return spring bracket earlier but every time i looked at it i hated more and more, It just didn't look right so i thought about it and came up with a bracket that fitted the theme better.
Got my regulator cover back from plating, bit of a problem with this as it was an original and well pitted so i got what i could out and sent it for plating, my mate the bigbossman is working on a decal to go on the front and cover the defects.
Masked up the base plate and painted it white so it blends in with the firewall where it will sit.
.Its aweful lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.

Hope you are feeling better from the flu bug, Steve. Lots of that going around.
I may have missed it, but what was the purpose of the valve cover to head spacers............rocker clearance?

Heck Steve,you bet me to the nurses uniform comment,damn, oh well you just drag that man flu out abit longer eh.
Way back too many years ago when we were having things chrome plated that hed little pits etc in them,I was taught to braze them and then file and finish with fine sand paper.
Now correct me if I'm misled,but this is a T Coupe with doors,so why do you want the body to tilt,ooh yeah, that's right,I remember now, you are an Englishman and you fella's do things different.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Steve, hope you feel better soon. Your throttle spring bracket is exactly what I was talking about in an earlier post. I would be tickled to turn out one as nice as the first one. But off to the rubbish bin. But I hope you like the second one, it's killer.......... But those little details, and the willingness to redo and redo again is what makes for a super nice car.

Yes i also fill the pits in but the braze can show through as a goldy tinge in the chrome, this cover is very very thin and was blueing up as soon as the mop went near it, on reflection i could of got one of the american guys here to maybe pick me up a new one.Its aweful lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
