The engine & intake look amazing, Steve. I also saved the link to the Thames/Fordson Project and will enjoy going back to see it through, too. Your pictures and descriptions of the initial frame work are first rate - very interesting to see your explanations and approach. Thanks for taking time to post in such detail.
Many thanks for the kind comments, There are obviously many different ways to do stuff and this is what works for me, glad you like it.
I post as much detail as possible as there are a lot of people trying to build rods here in england that don't have experience or know how, hopefully i can help them with tips and enthusiasm.
If i thought there were people interested i would start a thread for the build here.
Wow Steve fantastic looking engine block and intake! Attention to details really shows, time spent worth the return 100 fold. Wish I had your patience and skill!
Greetings Steve, have read all 32 pages and wow, your workmanship is amazing and I too appreciate your ability to give a excellent description of how you accomplish things and so ready to help others. You are a true gentleman. I had not realised one could purchase a complete Thames fibreglass body over there and they look so good. Hey I also noticed that I'm not the first to commend on the ash tray either.:D Over here in NZ the government has raised the price of smokes to try and get more people to give up by increasing the tax take. Luckily for me I only took up smoking in my early 20's and then quit after 3 years so I am one of those loud reformed smokers that enjoy preaching to others.:LOL::LOL:
Steve 32,
You rotten SOB. How can anybody even think of ever doing another rod again with the bar so high. I am going to just part my junk out and give up on this rod building fantasy.;) All kidding aside, your work is just fantastic. I am envious.
Jack.
Thanks for the kind words Jack its appreciated.
We all build differently and for different reasons, my reason for putting in the detail is firstly i enjoy doing it and secondly if i do something even slightly sub standard here in england the hotrod knives come out to give you a good stabbing :(
One thing i've noticed about americans is that they always seem to like to see people get on in life, If someone starts a business they always seem to be pleased for them, It seems to work the other way here in england, if you get to successful they can't wait to knock you down :(
I havn't a clue why !!!
Steve,
That really looks nice, Once you completely assemble the motor and it's in the car it will really be appreciated by people like me. I'm the guy you will have to chase away so you can go home. I can spend many hours looking at one car if it has the detail like yours. Your time is much appreciated, thanks for sharing.
Ken
Thanks for the positives Ken.
I had a couple of hours spare today so squirted some top coat on my intake to see what it would look like, I'm well pleased how it came out.
The paintshop owner asked me to name the colour so he could store it on the computer system so i called it "moneyshot"

That is certainly a very nice piece of eye candy Steve. Heck it takes me back to my nasty youth when any young lady with beautiful long smooth curving legs just had to have my hands stroking them.;) Amazing how a little time spend prepping an item can result in award winning parts. Heck I am looking forward to seeing the complete engine finished as I'm sure that the work you put into it , it will look absolutely fantastic.
Cheers Whip
It dawned on me the other day, Steve, where I saw workmanship and detailing like you, and some others on here, are putting into your cars. It was on a TV program about Jay Leno's Duesenberg collection. He uses the same guy to restore all of them and when they popped the hood the engines looked more like jewelry than motors. The painted parts were offset by lots of polished stainless and chromed pieces, even down to the carbs. The work guys like you, Ken, and some others do remind me of that level of commitment to perfection.
It's really enjoyable to see such nice work and dedication..........you sure have more patience and energy than me! :o:D
Don
Looking good roadster32! Fantastic!
I saw dads post earlier that said he was sorry to see you were not coming to Florida for the Turkey run this year. Is that True?
Too many customer cars to work on I am sure. And I had the cold beer on the boat for you both already!;)
Absolutely love the work you are doing. If I had just the talent you have in your pinky I would be all set:toocool::toocool:
Awesome build, Don Jr.
Wow, I would never even think to paint the carb! All that tear down and rebuilding! I hate working on carberators! I had a yamaha triple that looked like something the Star Trek Borg would make! I was rebuilding it when an architect who was designing an addition to our house, got side tracted and asked if he could take some photos of it. He also painted on the side, his art looks like a bunch of pipes and tubes, very mechanical.
How ya doing Don, good to hear from you, Yes we won't be over this year after all, things have got in the way and i'm snowed under with work, i really need to learn to say no to customers, as i work basically on my own i just can't do it all and work is piling up and stressing me !!!
Hopefully we can get over for Billetproof so keep that beer on ice, also looking forward to seeing the boat.
Many thanks for the comments and i look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can.
Hows the diet going :LOL::LOL::LOL:
Cheers
Steve.
steve just had to say beautiful work and welding.really enjoyed scrolling through the thread.looking forward to seeing the finished job.
Been doing engine stuff so not much to show you, but i did get my generator mounted old style out in the wind.
I wanted to use a generator as an alternator looks too new, I had this 55 F100 generaotor laying around and after a quick test to check it was working ok i pulled it apart for cleaning and paint and chrome.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../Generator.jpg
Before I did anything i had to mount it so made up some bracketry.

I thought the fan looked like it needed a guard on it so made up one, I'm still not sure whether i like it or not so it may get changed or modified.

Looks great! All the detail work really pays off, heck of an improvement on that old generator and the brackets are really first rate! Well done as always!
Can I add my two "P" (penny for our American friends and not that drug) Steve, the fan guard looks excellent on the wall hanging but not the period correct look you are going for. Hey if somebody puts their finges into it while the motors is running they will so learn a quick lesson in sanity. Otherwise,,it is looking cool.
your welding is so nice what a beautiful looking machine
Steve,
That fan guard may not be period correct, I can't recall ever seeing a generator fan guard, but it sure is in keeping with the "holes theme", it's "real cool man". BTW, it has taken me 2 days to figure out what fan guard you guys were talking about.:o:LOL: I have been looking for a radiator fan guard.:LOL:
Jack.
I know what your saying Jack, i didn't want to fit one but Health & Safety is really getting ridiculous in england these days so thought it might be worth fitting, I just tried to mate it with the car theme.
Thanks for the comments they are appreciated.

Steve, AWSOME AWSOME AWSOME, you are one tallented craftsman, I can't wait to see what's next.
That's better Steve. Just amazing , " Less is more" , A simple solution to a tricky question eh. I would be keen to have that look on my motor.
Thanks for the link to the Willys also and man that will be awesome. Do you have to sell any of the finished projects to make room for the new project??
On a similar note Steve,Mum and I enjoy watching that English TV programme "Grand Designs" with that Kevin chap, but we are annoyed and simply stunned that you people build beautiful new homes BUT very rarely any with car garaging, let alone 3 to 4 car garaging with workshop space included. Now we are also aware that you folk are having a wee bit of a cold snap at the moment so is all the cars still sitting out in the weather????:HMMM:
Whip to be honest i thought right from the start of making the guard it would need cutting, just couldn't decide how much plus it was easier to make in one piece, I'm still not 100% happy with it but it will do for the mean time.
I guess those people with the expensive houses don't need a garage as after spending a million quid they can't afford a car
No cars outside thank god, Sue's is in the small garage at the front of the house and mine is in one of 3 lockups i hve at the end of our road.
It actually rained quite hard here yesterday so washed all the snow away
The Willys sits in one of the lockups as no room in the workshop for it yet, they are a lot bigger than i thought :(
Incredible build mate! Very inspiring work...keep it up!
My block came back from reboring +60 thou & new cam bearings on friday, My mate the reborer really done me a big favour and had it done in 2 days, so Gomez and I set to flatting the epoxy primer, The epoxy has been on over a week now so was rock hard, anyway after 4hrs of both of us with sore fingers it was ready for paint, here's the results.
It came out just as I imagined :3dSMILE:
