In the same boat, Steve. Very familiar with Jet and others for woodworking, but not for something like a metal lathe. You just made me think, I may take a look at Grizzly, too, but don't want to hijack Steve's build thread here....

WHY Hes not using it:eek::LOL::LOL::LOL:
Heck yes guys, lets highjack this thread as it just might motivate our Stephen to get into the tall T again.:). But we are also enjoying following along on the Willys so I suppose we can forgive him eh and also it is his summer hours over there so I would like to think he has taken time out to take Sue to the beach to catch some waves and sunshine.:eek:
Well due to it raining non stop for the last 10 days work on the Willys has ceased unfortunately, not gonna waste the time though so I'm back on this doing a few jobs.
I needed to make up the front trackrod and draglink, these are made from 1" OD x 1/8" wall Stainless tube with threaded bungs welded into the ends.
I looked at them and thought they look boring so thought about making them a little more interesting, decided to repeat the trims i made for my exhaust tips.

Unfortunately there isn't a tube available that will slide over 1" tube snugly so the trims were made from 1.250" solid bar turned down and bored out to 1" ID, Yep there was a lot of swarf !!!

I started to make them by using a holesaw across the end but it didn't give the shape I was looking for.

I called my mate Allan up and he cut the shape into them on the Milling machine, I made them longer than I needed so he could grip them. (thanks a lot Allan)

I made a few extra to do the triangulated rear 4 bar as well.

After trimming to length they were all polished and fitted.

I also did a double ender for the middle of the trackrod & draglink, these are held in place by a rosette welding a small drilled hole.

Heres the completed trackrod and the rear triangulated 4 bars.

So Steve, do you have the equivalent of our "Ridler" competition in the UK, or do they call it The Langy? Another bit of fantastic detail on the rods. I'd love to hang out around your shop just to absorb ideas!
Thanks Roger, we have a thing called The Best in Britain but i'm not a fan of it myself, I know the judges and most have never built a Hotrod so what gives them the right to find stuff wrong on my cars, I don't really think they get what I do.
Thanks for the kind comments.
.
You do some good work and have a great eye for detail. wish I had that kinda talent.
Thanks guys, I'm just about sick & tired of this rain, it has rained everyday here for the last month, maybe longer, another of our summers down the drain !!!
.
My word Sir. You've got waaaayy too much time on your hands! Such craftsmanship. Wonderful work. perley
Great way to keep the details on par with the rest of the build! Sorry to hear about the rain there! We have had unusually excellent summer weather here, which is making paint the exterior f the house a lot easier(but makes me sad the truck has to sit on the sideline while higher priorities get done. I think once I go out on medical leave for my knee surgery, I'll have a 6 week period to focus on the truck(hopefully).
Steve - we even see news stories on the English monsoons:
"This was the unusual plea published in an editorial in The Times of London on Saturday, a measure of Britons' growing frustration with months of miserable weather.
"Let us make our position crystal clear: We are against this weather," the venerable newspaper wrote in an unsigned opinion piece. "It must stop raining, and soon."
The U.K. is slogging through some of the wettest conditions in recent history. Nearly every day seems to bring showers, sprinkles, drizzles, or downpours. On Saturday alone, England's Environment Agency registered some 75 flood alerts and warnings across the country, including the west England county of Shropshire, where fire and rescue officials received an anguished phone call from a woman who found herself waist-deep in water overnight."
And here - haven't seen enough rain this year to keep my grass green - it's crusty brown in most places. Hot - 90'sF plus, humidity way up as well.
Well with winter virtually upon us its time to get some more work done on this build, I have a customers body due shortly so Gomez my trusty helper came over today to help tidy up my lockup and make some room.
The T coupe body is incredibly heavy and needs 3 people to move it comfortably, this is mainly due to the floor, seat, firewall being made in 3/4" wood and oak in the A & B posts
I wanted to start afresh so decided all the wood except the B posts had to come out, I thought this was gonna be a pig of a job but as luck would have it the original builder made such a poor job of glassing it in it only took 3 hours to get it all out :D
A lot of the mat had not been fully saturated with resin and no surfaces had been keyed up either, I'm surprised it all stayed together really, The use of polyurethane expanding foam to fill the gaps wasn't ideal either !!!
Here are some pics and a video clip

Finally put a voice to the hand LOL .
I get itchy just watching!
Wow, you have a very cool project going on here! It amazes me what people try to do with fiberglass and they shouldn't even be allowed to touch glue let a lone fiberglass. Haha
After looking at all these pics and the total craftsmanship (more like ARTIST) of this build......im selling all my tools and sheet metal stuff, giving away my hot rods, and burning the garage......this is just amazing....you are one talented man. Extremely nice stuff, i used to think i was pretty handy with fabrication.....im not even CLOSE to being worthy....holy cow...
Going through the build log section and came across this one Steve, Do you still have it or is it long gone ?
No mate its still here, I'm waiting for the workshop to empty and then I will be back on it, I have 2 cars in the shop that are coming to the end andi've decided to not take on anymore full builds as the parts side has grown so much I can't do both jobs anymore.
.
That is so cool that the Hot Rod Industry is going ahead in leaps and bounds over in the UK. I have a friend here in Auckland that has been in business now for a couple of years building cars from chassis to turn key and although he struggles with the odd person who wants the best top job for the cheapest price, he is doing extremely well. His name is Steve too funnily enough so guys with that name must have something special in the blood. Actually for a small population of just over 4.5 million people, we have quite a successful hot rod industry New Zealand wide. I will look forward to when you have time to clean the cobwebs off the T Coupe and start on it again.
