Dave not slow you sit back and think of what will work and fit I'm sure while you work on other projects . Then you hit the project running . Hopefully to be the same when i retire from the 8 hr job. Leave it i'll call you when it's done did a couple like that in my life .
i have not been posting much been very busy building a 565 big chief engine for sand drags with a sheet metal intake and to off shore blown 502 s one was hurt and did a recam to the 4-7 swap have just finsh a 455 short block and a 400 pontiac and alot of smaller jobs . wish i could drive my cars but just do not have the steam like i use to at the end of the day just do not want to clean up the cars to drive . the be cool show is this week here looks like i just will not make it oh well :3dSMILE: i have just all the parts for the 734 still need to rods still do not have the money for them:mad: .i had to order one darton sleeve for the block then i will have all block work done .well thats my story here is one of the 502 and i may put some photos on here of the making of the sheet metal intake and the 565 big chief engine if any one wants to see it ?
That sure has to be a good pulling engine in the pic, Pat!!! Any idea what kind of numbers the blown version of a 502 makes? That firing order decal is a great idea!!!!

less then 7 pounds of boost they made 620hp on pump fuel they are very close to the same cams but 4/7 swap and i blue printed the one i built :3dSMILE: hoping that engine pulls i bit harder then is brother:D i re work the intake ports on the intake were way to big for the heads so i welded them up and re work the ports .he is going up on boost with intercoolers so power will be up there just 502 gm bottom ends with the cantfield heads with erson cam s thanks the decal deal i been doing for some timeQuote:

Made alot of headway this weekend brakes up and working , drive shaft new universals , and fuel system is together . New fan clutch and detailed the fan and some smaller engine bay parts . I also placed the exhaust manifolds in some 3M metal prep and let them soak a week . Cleans the rust off and leaves a protective coating on them . Get the radiator cleaned and painted , rebuild carb give a once look over should be ready to run out in the street . Needs the pressure washer soon to get all the dust off.
Also can i solder a neck back on radiator with plumbing sodder .

My headway today - mowed the lawn, raked out some bare patches and reseeded, spread a yard of mulch, cleaned out 2 hornet nests. Needless to say, not much of a car day. ( But I did install a secondary fuse block tho between honey do's:LOL: :LOL: )
It's really starting to look great. The earlier photos of the underside will make lots of folks jealous.
As far as soldering with common plumbing solder - try to find some tin/lead stuff as it flows better then the new lead free. Clean it well to a bright surface with CLEAN sand paper, not steel wool, flux it up like a copper water pipe and go to it, being careful not to overheat the base radiator copper when you're sweating the joint.
Dave I need to cut the grass also . I'll look for the tin/lead thanks .
You know the bottoms been done allmost 9 years and I have about 15 hrs in now this week and its close . I have about 20 hours looking for the stuff i packed 8 yrs ago LOL . Felt I was walking in circles alot looking .

Also have a retro body to do... It's a 'glass body all cut down to fit one of the modifieds that ran around here in the 60's and 70's. This is one that has quite a history but more on that later.... I had to graft part of a track nose radiator shell onto a midget hood to duplicate the one in the original pics of the car. Couple friends are frantically wrenching on the rest of the car, just got the frame back from the powder coater on Friday, brought me the body last night and want it done and painted by Thursday!!!! Dave the truck looks fantastic . When i seen the pic at first i thought you where building one of those hotrod trailers. I see the truck bed is still used even in fresh paint now thats a trucker.
Well rebuilt carb today installed the front torsion bars and new urethane bushings . First time for me with these and man they sure are hard to compress . I think these are harder then woodpecker lips . I heard they squeak bad but give a alot better suspension control .
Also hit one manifold with a 2 inch wire cup brush on the diegrinder. A quick pass over it and the film was off showing the shiney underneath . If they weren't pitted so bad for 41 years old they would look new . This 3M metal conditioner is the Cats Meow .
I discovered this model T, I guess thats what it is while riding my atv at my families farm. The motor, front cowl and frame is entact. I would say it has been there for 20 plus years. The frame looks to be in pretty good condition, but I am a rookie to this so I really appreciate any help. I am hoping to convert into a ratrod, just the bare essentials to be legal. So, what do you guys think>

Well one thing i didn't remember is the gas peddle assy should have been bolted to firewall before engine was in . Geez did i have a time wriggling it back into position . Rads in and I forgot the shroud so fan will have to come off again to get it in .
Getting new rad hoses this morn and need to get the oil primer won't be long to put a battery in it .

Getting real close and i'm gettin nervous trying to make sure all the ABC's are getting done . I have to hook up trans lines is all then do all the fluids . Just got info from Jerry to make a oil primer tool and made that . I used some good engine assembly lube but its been sittin about 4 years .
Wire loom getting plugged in the very last . Don't want temptation lurking about rolling it over LOL .
Well trans lines done but while under car i looked over and uuummm no power steering lines . Got em cleaned and started putting them on 2 little 6 inch lines Pi##ing me off just not lining up had to quit for the day . Attack them fresh in the morning right after coffee .
Thats a great time getting close to hearing it run. It is looking good Bobby, don't worry I am sure you did everything right. Having to pull it out is a drag but all part of it. It's all great fun, good luck!

Starved for attention right now, I have been working 2 jobs but finished the second today so tomorrow the car. I had the hood cable break at the last show I went to and haven't gotten the hood open yet. 48's are so inclosed around the hood mechanism, it's tough to get too.
I bet i had one break on a old 83 Skylark took a day to configure my arm thru evrything to get it to release . Hope it goes easier for you and its up in a short .
Well update had it spitting this afternoon i think i'm a tooth off . Had to put a theft wire on it and screw driver across the solenoid . Really hard to do and turn distributer with wrong hand .
Had electrical trouble heavy load when connecting negative to batt. Well after unplugging the only four connectors to the dash area still had it . Culprit was in the alternator loom once disconnected no more load . Something must have gotten inside or loom , where one pin broke off , i ordered a new alt loom might need the alternotor also .

I have to take the weekend off on the truck and get the hood and body smoothed and painted for the vintage race car some friends have restored... It's scheduled to make it's debut on the 27th!!!!
Just pulled in from Florida. A 15 hour straight drive in a minivan with 4 teenagers and way too much luggage. Great time but man, I'm beat. Hey Bobby, is the Stang runnin yet?
Yeppers first time in 11 years . She smoked out the garage and set off a smoke detector in the hall LOL. Rebuilt the carb hog washed it 90 psi to it and still a small piece of crud got into a jet only feeding one side .
Also i wired it wrong looked at firing order on intake and the dust and paint made the 3 look like a 8 so after a couple times of scatching my head i got out the manual thinking i may have to readjust valves . Thats when i seen the firing order in the book and said D##N thats what it is . Tearing apart carb and cleaning again in the morning should get it to idle then .
Oh and had the old exhaust stashed out in the shed . D##n mice ruined some perfectly good 8 track tapes and other stuff . This is what blew out of muffler when it fired LOL.

Bobby, did you pre oil it before you tried to fire? My 454 in my truck has been sitting for 4 or 5 years now. I think the gas tank was plugged up; it would run as long as I had gas in the carb. I put a new pump on it and even primed it, which in all of the years of putting fuel pumps on I never had to do that. Time has gotten away from me but I want to get it started and maybe put it in my 50 ford.

Richard do mean the oil pump yes i did , then i turned it by hand to get rods wet with oil . After i ran it a few minutes I pulled off valve covers everything is nice and oily . I put a new oil pump in it .
New fuel pump too old pump was blowing fuel from the seems when it ran . All new fuel system and had tank boiled out . Must have dried out sitting all these years . Auto Zone was the only place around with the original style for $21 not to bad no leaks is all that matters .
Dave hope they smacked the wall hard when they shot out . Now i have to set traps to make sure none are in the garage . May have too moth ball it awhile too . We have electronics in house and they have worked may still be strong enough to run them out of garage .

Starting tomorrow I'm going resume working on the 27 Tudor and stay with it until I can drive it: lap the valves, put everything back on the Banger, pull the rear end and rebuild it.
Bobby, that’s what I meant priming the system by turning the distributor shaft to the oil pump. I was in pain and couldn’t sleep so I was checking out this site and come across your post of firing the engine. I’m afraid if I don’t do that I’ll waste a good engine. I’ve heard about people putting gas in the carb and the car starting right up but this engine has low miles on a rebuild. I would like too try to get the engine running before I pull it out of the truck, I can use a container and by pass the tank I’m sure mine is loaded with rust by now. Thanks.

Richard mine was new so i preprimed it if yours has been run i expect it would pump oil right up with no dry spell . I think you would only have to prime new not a established oil pump . I mean as long as pan had oil and it didnt drain pump out .
Been out fixed carb my bad i left out a gasket and it was leaking down in bowl hence all the smoke and smell yesterday . Raw fuel dumping in engine soon as i get a better idle im working on it there will be a vid up .
Bobby, if I could get by without pulling the distributor it would be nice not to have to go about the timing brining up to top dead center. I don't want to cause more problems then I already have. If it would be ok to shoot oil in the spark plugs holes and maybe pour some oil over the push rod assembly that would be better for me. I hate to trouble shoot as to whether I have the distributor off 180 or top dead center on the exhaust stroke. If other people have been success full at this I would try it. Thanks for your help.

Richard if you mark where distributer and rotor are at just replace them in same position , you don't have to rotate engine to run oil pump . As i said i think you will be allright and good idea pouring oil on top of rockers and things before trying to start . Get some instant lube up there on moving parts .
Bobby, thanks for clearing that up I guess I wasn't thinking about that, I thought if I moved the distributor It would not be right in the location. When I get it out but the slot can only go one way or the other right? Rethinking I was making things more complicated then is necessary. Anymore I think I have loss what confidence I had working on cars. I used to have to keep them running doing what ever but now I make it to complicated. Thanks for the reply that clears up as to making me confident about not screwing it up.

Richard, I'm with you. When I was younger I fixed and built everything myself, without worries! Now I overthink everything, worry too much, and spend more time thinking. Finaly, I take the plunge, and just do it as I should have in the first place!:eek: :D

Line up the crank TDC mark and #1 on the housing. It might take 2 or more attempts - and I've seen pros scream while doing this - so go to it. If you go into panic mode, back off and think it through. If for some reason you "lose" TDC, it's either 'right' or 180* off
