Awesome car, just clear coat it and leave her in that glorious state.
It would be a great buy, but I didn't buy it. It was my grandma's car when she was a single mother raising my dad in the 50's. The whole history of the car is kinda long and drawn out, but long story short, because my grandma used to race, I figured that it would be the perfect homage to her to hot rod out her first car. She paid $250 for it used in 1951. Its still got the last plate that was on it(from 1955). It really did run the last time it was parked, but pieces had been removed to fix farm equipment.Quote:

Very nice ride Tommycat, the history is the greatest part of the car, all though that is a great looking lowrider! Those old Nashes are great cars and rare, good luck to you with it.
I am working on brakes getting my IFS finished, I have the powerbrake cylinder mounted and going to run lines tomorrow, I bought a '75 Camaro for the rear end and an engine so looking like the ol' 48 is going to be rolling again in a week or so. I'll be freaking out to see it on wheels again, Camaro rally wheels at first. Pics soon.

I started spreading thin to try to get as much done on all of my projects as I could. I got the 1939 Nash Ambassador in my pics started.... barely.... just barely.... it drained the battery to start it, and my wallet was already empty.... I covered it back up with the tarp and walked away from it..... The Saturn was getting finished, the burb was well on it's way, things were going good..... I took really sick, and through a combination of being sick and mechanical failure, I got into a really bad wreck and ruined all of my work.... ~70-0 mph in 5 feet..... doesn't do a body good. I walked away from it for some reason, I truely believe I wasn't meant to die in that car, as close to it as I came, and as many times as I was close to it. The front of my Saturn ended up right up at the firewall, and the block partly through it. That was on April 16, I believe.... I was kinda laid up for a while after that.... but not well off..... I was living in my suburban for a while, cuz I lost my house after I lost my car. I just tried to heal up some.... most of my other projects were either taken over by others, or put on the back burner.... my stove seems to have lots of back burners.... I think it has one in the front. The burb is giving me more trouble..... the S10s still don't run..... Neither of my Nashes are working, my 63 chebby got pushed into the ditch on flats out of frustration, and hasn't been retrieved yet.... I went out and bought a Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL with 81,000 miles or so on it. I later realized I couldn't afford the gas or repairs for it, so, I looked for something else. Repairs are ongoing on it..... I bought a 1992 Honda Civic Si, because my job was three cities away, and I had to get there every day, so, I needed good mileage. I have been fixing it up the most of all of them..... I will be moving to North Carolina next week probably, so it needs to be ready by then..... new wheels and tires (new to the car) went on yesterday.... new oil will be going in soon.... coil-overs after that, so that the tires won't rub the fenders so much.... Most of them are mpg and quality mods, not really go fast things..... I need good mileage. I have been looking constantly for parts for any of my cars, just so that I won't find any..... as soon as I stop looking, I will find more than I can afford, so, I'll quit looking when I get rich..... which won't happen for years, if ever..... so, I reckon my "rice burner" is my main project..... oh, well....
Got my '56 Plymouth front clip off, removed the 277 and 2spd auto. I've nearly got the front k-frame out of the Chrysler 5th Avenue, so I've got a 318/auto combo for cheap, as well as the 277, and all the front end parts, rear end, drive shaft, etc. from the 56. Next I'll jerk the 440/727 out of the big Chrysler New Yorker, mount them to the K-frame, then get everything tacked together. Not much operating capital just now, so I'm doing all I can that doesn't require new parts, etc. for now. As soon as I get some stuff sold, or sell my race truck, I'll rebuild the RB, and get serious about finishing it up for next spring.:D

Well my 39 Chevy is a work in progress. I do some every weekend that we are not doing something with the family or friends and here in Virginia the mid-summer is blistering with the heat and humidity. I am hoping to have a new garage built by next summer with heat and air. Here is the car. I still have the modifications to do on te front fenders for the new headlights. I am thinking to use 2003-4 Jeep Liberty lights mounted into the fenders. The chassis is done; air bags all around, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear, new x-member to stiffen it up. 383 Chevy with a little push; should be about 450 hp with 500# tq. 700R4 with a little gear work. The vintage air unit is in as well as the wipers and an under-dash MC and pedal assembly. I still have the dash and the final body work before paint and upholstry. Steering column is in and a few more parts.

It is great to see all the rides that everyone is building, what a great hobby to have huh? My car is moving along too, finally have a motor getting stroked as we speak, IFS is done, new rotors and all, power brakes in using original pedal assembly. 10 bolt 4:11 rear end getting ready to go in as soon as lowering kit gets here. Camaro shifter and console is in and too low so I have to raise it up. I just keep on plugging away at it, a true labor of love though!:D
I am epoxy primering my car and I am going to run without a front bumper so I was wondering if anyone nows anything about making roll pans? Are there any availible for sale anywhere?
Well the bodys coming along nicely with the 69 ute making one good complete rust free body from 4 donor bodies. Front suspensions all stripped down and cleaned ready to be painted. so of the ute its all in bits sitting on the garage floor. Looking at a yellow body with black sidestipe paint sceme.
The 350 engine is coming along nicely all aligne bored, torque plate bored .030, decked to zero deck height with new flat top pistons. Con rods shot peened, new rod bolts and resized. :) . The only setback is a cracked crankshaft :CRY:. So a steel ones going in. Cylinder heads are 461's that have the standard size valves with a 3 angle valve job and 70 degree throat cut into the ports, will probably have to run shorter pushrods to get the valvetrain geometry right. as for the cam looking at a 229 duration with 490 lift hydraulic stick. The short block originaly came out of a 72 ss camaro ckd suffix code that I picked up at the swapmeet for $100. Gearbox is a 4 speed manual thats been fully reconditioned with new bearings and syncro cones.
So hopefully I'm shooting for the 1 HP per cubic inch figure. Luckily I have access to an engine dyno so I should be able to dial it in without to much drama. :D:
Well ive just finnished frame #2 for my dodge roadster, the first frame having been an extended model A frame that kept twisting and cracking out the welds. Now im going the the process of remaking the body hangers for a much less channeling this time. At this rate shell be road legal sometime next millenium.
I have a 51 shoebox sectioned 2 inches tacked together and floating on a 70's buick frame with a 350 out of grandmas station wagon, not enough room in the shop for it so its a shade tree custom at the moment.
thanks guys, I will have the book coming to me. It's a hard one to match at the rear of my car because of the curve of it. We will see, thanks for the info.

Well everything takes longer than expected but this thread is good to keep track of progress, however slight. New for me are that my son and I squared up the 4-bar front and rear last Saturday to within 1/32" around what appears to be a perfectly straight Brookville '29 frame. I also got the short block 350 back from Joe Butler's amazing shop (a very small shop chock full of blocks in various stages of rebuild) and yesterday got back the rebuilt 882 heads which were treated to a smoothing of the exhaust ports, a poor man's port job on what some say is the limitation of the 882 heads, the exhaust ports. I also purchased a set of ARP engine bolts, but found that some are not included and yesterday finally got a junk front pulley just for the three bolts to hold the crank pulley. I bought the ARP bolt for the crank pulley from Summit ($18) and found it is too long and that there are dozens of possible 350 pulley combinations for the crank and waterpump! I don't know whether to cut the bolt shorter or stack washers on the bolt. Since I bought a very bare block and heads, a lot of little pieces are missing and causing a lot of little annoying problems and to my amazement the local Chevy agency, NAPA and two other aftermarket outlets do not have a lot of these bolts. The ACE Hardware guy told me he can get me any bolt in any grade as long as I buy a box of 100 at a time! Thank goodness for Summit, but even they do not seem to have all the bolts. I guess this is normal and would not be a problem if I had a few donor engines but what it means for others is that when you get an engine, try to get it with every small piece and bracket still attached! I also got two 15x7 and two 14x6 wheels from Early Wheels with baby moon caps and the wheels are now at the paint shop for epoxy primer. IF (?) I get the frame up on tires by Labor Day I will finally send a picture. A bolt-on Power brake unit has been on back order for over two months and the next chore will be the brake lines and rebuilding the brakes on the 8" rear.

Don, I have a few of those crank bolts laying around, measure the length you need and if I have it it's yours. Let me know.
I myself have passed on the big block, it was very very sick. But my 383 stroker is well on it's way at the shop and half my car is now in epoxy primer, soon to be paint. I have the parts coming and my new rear end should be under her by wed. or thurs of next week if speedway comes through again. still to buy a tranny and drive line. New fuel tank, fuel lines are in with electric fuel pump. Slowly but surely, it's starting to look like a car again.:D

Hit a bit of a snag with the headers. But the good folks at Sanderson were able to help me out with an 'off the shelf' pair.
Looks like the TPI system will work with the early(350) block. Hope to get exhaust complete by end of next week. Also looking at Dakota Digital dash set up. Anyone using this?

Though I'm not a big fan of Pep Boys, the one here in Springfield has a rather decent selection of Grade 5 and Grade 8 fasteners. If you have one close you might want to check them out.
I might start getting work done on my truck again. I have gotten good at welding, so I bought a floor pan for the passenger side and my grandpa is going to help me put that in. As soon as I do that, I can lay some epoxy primer down on the floor and cover it with the carpet I can now afford to buy because I am now getting paid for some of my work. I can also afford to get the seat reapholstered, but I am thinking of buying a bench seat from a newer truck and installing that because they are more comfortable and have head rests which are a big safety plus when you have a lot of very hard glass right behind your head. After that, I've just got to polish up some of the hugger orange paint I laid down a year or 2 ago and my interior will be done. It wont be perfect, the dash pad will still be cracked and such, but it will look good and be very functional (no bling factor here). I've also got to decide what color to do the seat, black is simple but charcoal gray is cooler in the summer (no AC). It's a daily driven truck that I do make dump runs in, so no white or really light colors for the interior. Suggestions are always welcome. As soon as I finish with the interior, I'm going to grind out my bondo that I laid down when I first got the truck, pop the dents out like they should have been, and fill with lead (and maybe a little bondo). I get a second paycheck in about a month so I am going to replace the ball joints and rebuild the suspension so I don't have to worry about chewing up the new tires I'll be getting mounted on my very 70's slotted mags.
I've got the body blasted and all the grit buffed off and I finished welding the front clip on the frame.
This weekend I plan to finish blasting the rear end so I can paint and hang it. I'll finally have a rolling chasis.
If I start by 7:00 a.m. I should be done by noon....:LOL:

That looks sweet Bigbird 48, I like the way that media blasting leaves a body. I have had to hand sand all of mine myself, but it's coming along. Is that a FatMan subframe?
New to forum.:D I have a custom 72 Vette with a Mako Shark front. I added a Z28 style rear spoiler to the car myself. The front was added by my brother in law and I purchased the car in 1980 when he finished it.
At that time the car was in approx 90% which I consider pretty good. My bro in law is a wizard when it comes to putting stuff together. I dove the car for a couple yrs then decided to build the engine a little.
I had a total rebuild done to the car in the early 90s. Only thing I didn't use that was good as far a performance goes was a good set of heads but I had the stock one gone thru. IIRC I used a 260 or a 280 Comp Cam. I'm using a 650 double pumper and have a 2500+ TCI stall in a TH400. The pistons are again iirc TRW forged 10.5:1 flattops with pretty much everything in chrome moly.
Well here why I'm here today.:) In 1994 I parked the car because of kids. I left it in my garage and for the 1st couple yrs I started it every couple months. Then I just let it go and must of tuned it out. Kids would accidental have their bike fall and scratch the back and it didn't really bother me, I knew it was going to have to have a new paint job anyway I guess. It was like the car didn't exist to me. Weird!
A few of my brothers have Corvettes and one just bought a 95 vert. It was like a wake up call to me:eek: that I had a pretty good car to work on just setting. My kids are 14 (boy) 17 (girl) and I have the extra money to do the things I have always wanted to do to this car. Those things are make it look as bad-azz as can be and make it run/sound like it looks. Woo! Gets me wood every time I think about it.
I had to replace all calipers total tune up rebuild carb fuel system total cleaned :( to get it running. I just had new 2 1/2" pipes and Magnaflow stainless installed:cool: makes a big differs over 2" rusted pipe and 2 $19 mufflers with a couple rust holes on.;)
Car seems to run really good its a solid Vette more solid than most I've seen. My winter project is to get the heads. I'm looking at Dart Pro1s I've heard good things. I may have them ported and polished if I can find out if it would be worth the money. I want to add a new cam/lifters also and want a lot of low end but I want the car to lope pretty hard I like that look and feel.:cool: Lil help here if anyone knows a good combo.

My car is almost ready for paint, another week or so of greuling sanding, pounding, puttying, spraying........Repeat! Any advice about how to get the deepest looking basecoat/clearcoat paint would be appreciated.
Started clampin' stuff in place for the front suspension on the "Z" today.
Can anybody tell me how much room I need to allow for a blower drive (Front of the block to front of the lower pulley)?. I'm figuring 2 pulleys behind the blower drive just to be safe. If I go with 1 belt at least measuring for 2 I'll know I have room. I have about 4" room in this picture but the block is already set back an 1". I've got the rack about as far forward as I can go. I'm making my own firewall, so my only setback limitation is the blower against the windshield glass.
Box holds the hub @ 0 camber, correct ride height, wheel base location and square to the rails. Clamps to the front pads on the jig. Two adjustment bolts hold the strut @ the right caster (ballpark anyway) until I can get lower control arms & bracket placements located.
Had a better set up designed to dial in the struts, but my CNC decided to NOT work again today so I built this the old fashioned way. :CRY:

I'm married 22yr,s to my 2nd wife, have two boy's from 1st.Have a few cars in different stages of compleation. My 49 chev fastback is the main project at the time. It's been chopped 3 1/4 in,(just had the new one peace olds windshield cut and installed last week.:3dSMILE: ) Bobs classic glass done an excellent job of cutting an fitting.I had my fingers crossed all week so it didn't break. (whew) Shaved handels,hood.61cad tailfin lights in exstended rear quarters. 350sbs350auto, frenched 52ford headlight rings and a lot more to do.Have a lot of rust:( to get rid of yet.

As promised here is a picture of my frame with tires and the engine. The TH350 is on the floor just behind the engine stand. The engine is waiting for rockers and the Edelbrock Performer is is a box in the corner behind the engine. A dirty Rochester Quadrajet is somewhere up on the workbench waiting for a rebuild/cleanup. I got a great deal on the tires but the 735/75/15 rear tires may be too tall for the Model-A fenders so the rear coil springs are in the highest hole to provide room in the fenders. Yesterday I finally got my power brake kit but found out I have to remove part of the existing non-power master cylinder bracket to make room for the vacuum can of the power unit. I think I can use some of the existing mount to box in the space between the frame and the new bracket to make it look neat as well as stronger. There is still an amazing amount of work to do but I have made progress this summer.

I think the best thing I've done to any of my cars lately is put them up for sale. I have my 40 Chrysler and my '66 Chev rampback car hauler on Ebay right now. I mothballed my '66 Suburban as my daily driver and put an FM modulator in my '60 Fury to make that one my daily. My 25 Chevy roadster looks like a car now, but I still need to do some suspension front and rear. I located a complete 32 Ford front end that I'm trying to get, and I'm considering parallel leaf springs for the rear because they seem easy to set up. Both my Convertibles (72 GTO and '70 Cutlass SX) sit in the garage, unloved, and my first car (chopped 53 Ford) is parked on the lawn at my shop. I need to quit reading threads and work for a while!
