I love the high end mixing can! Who says lunch can't be repurposed! :)
Weather has been pretty good so another productive day, mostly down to tidying up the little things now.
I cleaned up the aluminium tunnel and glued down some carpet so i could fit my throttle pedal.
I had already set it all up a few months ago on the bench to check it worked ok so it was a pretty straight forward job to fit, Its all fully adjustable and is a Speedway pedal and Speedway bell crank and the rest is home brewed, I was gonna make a bellcrank but the Speedway one is pretty good and works well and is infinitly adjustable plus it was only 15 bucks, not worth making one !!! I made an adjustable stop for the pedal reurn as well.

Next I needed a cable, had a rummage through my box and found some Lokar parts, Fitted them together but because my firewall is 1" thick it didn't have enough thread, 5 minutes in the lathe sorted it out, I also turned the nut into a barrel nut which enabled it to thread together.
I hate the braided look so will put some black heat shrink tube on it,

Nice setup on the loud pedal, should work great!
Well not too much to report due to small bits not here yet from the states, I'm taking the car to the Blackpool indoor show at the weekend and the storm in the states has caused havoc with my parts order as my shippers are in New York and the storm is about to hit
Anyway i've made few changes and one of them was to get rid of the plexiglass screen, the more i thought about the more it seemed to make sense to have a laminated glass screen as this will see a lot of street duty. I'm not sure of the name of the company who cut the screen for me otherwise i would give them a big plug as they made a superb job of it, I supplied them through my mate Gary a plywood template, the edges have been completely polished smooth, just a quality job.
I bonded the glass in and because it was cold the adhesive took a while to cure so a couple of clamps were employed to hold it in place.

I always intended to have a trim around the windscreen that looked like a stock type rubber so I cut a piece of 1/8" ply to shape and then encapsulated it in fibreglass resin to seal it, then it was built to a rough shape with mat & resin, then sanded to shape and a couple of coats of satin black epoxy primer was applied, its still a little shinnier than the look of rubber but it will do for now, i'm gonna try matt black on it later.

Here it is just laid in place but you get the idea. hopefully it won't take long to bond it on tomorrow as its not supposed to rain

I also got my modified pitman arm back from the chromeshop so I have steering at last :3dSMILE:

While I had the draglink off I changed the trackrod end for a stainless one. I will chrome the steering arm once I confirm everything ratiowise works ok.

All my prop parts arrived ok so a mate picked me up a piece of CDS tube for me but when i started to put it together I noticed a small problem with the tube Need to get another bit I think :HMMM:

.
Looking very good, Steve! I think you made a good call on the windscreen with the bonded glass for safety. The car's really coming together well - too bad you got a bad stick of tube. That seems strange for drawn tubing.
No stainless steel trim strips! Come on Steve your letting me down! :)
Well been putting in some hours and the fruits of the labour is its nearly there, just the front clip to bolt on, about 20 minutes work.
Sorry for the crap pic but it gets dark here early.

Well we expect photo's of it set up in the show too please and while on that subject, will it be judged as unfinished or what? What time does it get dark over in Watford now?
Hell, it wouldn't be worth getting out of bed for such a short day like that mate. Day break at 9.00am and night fall at 4.00pm. imagine, meals in bed, sex all day long and a good night sleep to do it all over again....... and then you complain about winter....... yeah right......
Whip,
If only I or my wife had the energy to sustain that regimen:(, but it does bring back memories:rolleyes:;). Oh to be 30 again.;)
Jack.
daylights savings time today!
Well... We are waiting to here how the show went?
Don't forget the pictures.:D
I will post the pics shortly, unfortunately it poured with rain on the way there and a fair few people didn't turn up I'm afraid, I felt really sorry for Shaun the organiser as he really tried to make it a good event.
I won an award for the willys too :o
We all still had a grand time though.
.
Congrats on the award you deserve it Steve!
Steve so how was the shake down run ? Did you make the show you had planned to go to .
I took the willys to the Blackpool Rod & Custom show last weekend, this is the first one to be put on in 28 years, hopefully it will be on again next year and grow.
Had been really looking forward to this show as it was a indoor show and havn't done one for years.
We loaded the willys thursday evening (thanks Jason) and set off at 10am friday morning, The M1 was clear and we got to the M6 tollroad services (110miles) 2 hrs later, where we met up with Gary Layton, Larry Ward & the Smoke city guys, Unfortunately the next 130 odd miles was stop/start and raining thanks to the good old M6 this took us a further 4.5 hrs
Shaun guided us in by phone as the post code was incorrect, it was raining hard so it was very handy that we could drive straight into the main hall and unload the cars in the dry the hall was teeming with people setting up and the organisation really good, the marshalls were really helpfull and nothing was too much trouble.
Once all setup we ventured off to the local Pizzaria for some food and a tour of the famous Blackpool illuminations, they were very impressive !!! and the Smoke city wheeler guys went looking for a local titty bar
Saturday morning we were pleased to see a small quee outside of people waiting to enter, a good sign i thought
The first thing on entering was the very impressive dome in the roof.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2/DSC_0051.jpg
There were also various attractions outside on the way in.

And one of the main man Shaun
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2/DSC_0109.jpg
Saturday evening after the show closed Shaun had organised a Double decker bus to pickup all the exhibitors from the show and take them on a tour of the illuminations etc etc, on returning everyone was directed upstairs to a room Shaun had set aside with a very good band, disco and resonable bar, everyone got their first drink free which was anice gesture.
All in all i think it was a success, its a shame that Shaun was let down by so many as it could of been even better and obviously Shaun will have learn't from some mistakes.
The only gripe i could think of was the ropes around the cars made it difficult to get good photo's but this will be addressed next year i'm sure.
I for one will look forward to hopefully attending next years show as i'm quite convinced it will be another cracker !!!
I would also like the thank Shaun, Andy and the various helpers for giving us all such an enjoyable weekend, cheers.
.
Thanks Steve, looks like along with a great show with some first rate cars there was lots of worthwhile sightseeing as well! All in all a really first rate affair!
Thanks for posting the photos, Steve! I appreciated the leading shots of the facility, which is a beautiful old building with impressive architecture! There were first rate cars covering a wide time period, and the Willy's fit in perfectly. One question - what's the newer silver two door hardtop in the picture right after the gold F100 truck? Nicely done, but I don't recognize the body lines.
Great pictures if it wasn't for the plates it could have been a show here in the US. Pictures with ropes we used to drop them if we were asked. Lots of times the end caps would just have stantions. Looks like a fun show
Ditto above comments, and like to add the Savage was a cool addition.
.
The Yellow Capri beside the silver one is a stock roof height one so you can compare how much work has gone into slicing the roof, amazing job. The Savage is actually a Mk1 Ford Cortina from the early '60's and has some awesome airbrush work on the hood. I do like the gold '32 Ford truck that has a nice channel job on it. Thanks so much for the photo's too and heck, you remembered that I'm a leg person. I would of gladly handed my ticket over to either of those gorgeous ladies in pink too plus anything else they may of wanted.:3dSMILE:
Wow! That silver Capri is sexy looking! Hard to imagine that started as what we knew in the States as a Mercury Capri, made by Ford UK and captive imported by Mercury. Someone has a very good eye to see that beauty wrapped in the stock sheet metal.
