I think when UPS delivered the last parts, Steve was too distracted to see if they were stainless. Not sure why?

Probably COD
Now the doors are virtually there i started on the hood, Its taken a couple of evenings to get right but i found the best way was to get the hood lined up with the beltline and then adjust the fenders to suit,
It fits pretty well but being a single skin it tends to be a bit floppy so needed a little bracing here and there, first i attended to the rear side corners that stick out a little, it needed a simple brace on the curve to keep it in the right shape.
A bit of measuring and a piece of tape to keep the sides constant and work progressed.

A piece of 3/8" ply was cut as a stiffner and the area keyed up, the ply is held in place with a few blobs of body filler. Then matting applied, no picture of the matting going on as my fingers were a bit sticky.

Here its fitted back on the car, 32 hood hold downs like they used back in the 60's, apart from a bit of blending and fettling of the gaps its virtually there. There will be no tight door gaps here as Willys were never known for their great panel fitment, don't want it too perfect otherwise it will look like a glass car

The triangle hood pc by the bottom hinge, you going to add a filler pc in??.I honestly don't remember if the older gassers where like that.
Very nice the work you have done.

Yes Gary there is a small triangle piece to go in, all Willys had it, some people make it part of the hood.

Got to the last job on the hood over the weekend, because its a single skin it tends to move a bit, remedy was to add a couple of stiffners down the sides.
I used a piece of 1/2" x 16swg square tube either side, first i curved it to follow the line of the fenders.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...st21st2011.jpg
Next i fitted a rivnut in either end and bolted it to the hood side, this allowed me to check the curve was right and recurve if needed, I will glass up the holes later.

Refitted the hood and it was spot on, had a nice gradual curve to the sides, so removed it for glassing in place.

Wow, Steve, that is really starting to take shape. :) It looks like you have temporarily pushed the 26 (or 27) into a corner?
Don
Steve,A moment of off topic is you don't mind. The two pixs of those other cars got my memory trying to remember what is the wheel base of these cars??.Is it 96"??.
Still working on it when i can Don, built up the short block and reworking the heads at the moment, port matching, bowl reshaping, porting, CCing etc etc, there is a lot of time in the heads alone.
I'm pressing on with the willys as i've had interested parties from the USA & Australia that want me to sell/export to them, The bodies are selling way better than i thought they would.
102.5" or 104" depending on the year Gary
Lookin' good, Steve!!! Sure is a shame when work gets in the way of projects, huh???? Good hearing that interest in the body is high!
Wow Steve, Looking great. You have really whipped that car into shape in no time at all :toocool:
Wonderful execution on all the parts and pieces. Good for you selling a few bodies too. Making $$ never hurt anyone.
Don Jr.
I'm still skint though Don  Just about got enough for the trip over :D
OK Steve.I feel like I just got treed.I must have snoozes threw the part you sell these bodies??.
Attachment 50951Attachment 50950 Good to hear you are still coming to Florida my friend. The boats waiting for you and the misses for some sun and fun. Let me know your itinerary so we can make sure you get some boat time while your here (With my two jobs Sundays are our only day to get out if that works for you guys) :)
Don the boat looks fantastic, and what a great name, Van Morison rocks!
Don that boat looks dead cool !!! Is that a beer in the waitresses hand
Really looking forward to seeing you all mate.
Up here in New England just about everyone is pulling their boat (24 foot & greater) out early because of the hurricane! It is a short season for us to start with and Irene is really cutting it short! It isn't to bad if you can trailer your own, otherwise all the transporters are now booked solid through the weekend! 8-(
Sorry for the hijack..
Yeah Van Morrison, isn't he a Dutch football player
Gee Steve, how do YOU rate? I know some family members who never even get that invitation to go boating. :( (and I even have a brand new fishing rod ! :D)
Don
Is it one like this, Don?? Attachment 50972
Don you got a PM, We are arriving in Orlando on the 6th September, have you got plenty of beer in ???:LOL::LOL:
Yep, hope you and Sue have a safe trip. :)
Don
Steve I'm guessing you like traditional beer and not the light stuff the big breweries knock off here! But I am amazed at how many overseas visitors like Coors and Bud too! I have to admit on a hot day, a Miller goes down easy and well, without clouding one's head! Being a home brewer myself, I tend to like British bitters, or amber ales. Lately here stateside, our micro breweries have been pumping out heavily hopped IPA's and Pale Ales, with alcohol contents in the 5.6-10% range. Just curious what you like in the beer beverage catagory? Lately the wife and I mostly enjoy a glass of hard apple cider, or pear cider. Turns out they were the most popular drink in the USA prior to 1900. John Adams evidently loved cider and had several a day!
Wow how did I get so off subject! Sorry love my beers and ciders!
Speaking of beer, I decided to give those home draft beer dealies that Miller and others sell another chance. We had bought 3 of them a while back and the beer was great, but the CO2 setup failed in all 3 and we lost about half of the gallon and a half of beer. Miller sent me a check to cover one of them when I complained.
The new on is working great, they must have improved the mechanics. The only problem is it is TOO convenient to open the fridge and refill my glass. :D
Don
Don I hear yah! When I started homebrewing in High school it was unrefined and usually contaminated. Later in College in the early 90's we actually got pretty good at home brewing, but bottling the beer is a lot of cleaning and tedious work. So I invested back then in a co2 system that connects to 5 gallon stainless steel soda kegs. It was fairly cheap back then, and your beer is ready to drink in a day, vs. about 10 for bottling. But you hit the nail on the head about it's too convient to have lots of fresh draft brew around! So now I brew a few batches a year for partys in kegs, and bottle most of the other stuff. Last year I started making hard cider, after picking up an apple press and restoring it. I kegged some this spring, but haven't tried it yet. It is one brew that does better with time and aging. Early apple season is now around here, so the press will get some use this weekend, when some friends with kids will be visiting!
Don what system is the miller setup haven't seen it yet, unless it's the 2 gallon plastic keg with a bladder insert? I have one of those I haven't tried yet, but it look s fun. Sorry UK Steve for this digression, but I did mention "stainless steel" in there somewhere!:LOL::3dSMILE::3dSMILE:
