Don SR. :D
Looking forward to it Don, seems ages since we were last there.
Cider is all i drink Steve, I like the strong stuff best.
Too many Don's here :LOL::LOL::LOL:
You have a strange idea of what's a problem...............Well, you have a lot of strange ideas..........but that's another subject.:p
While not cider, and probably near impossible to find east of the Rockies, this has a hint of chocolatey flavor...........mmmmmmm, yummy!
After getting the hood 99% sorted i moved onto the fenders, they needed a bit of support as there is no inner fenders and I don't intend to fit any.
My solution was to add a few adjustable bars to support and adjust the fender to hood clearence.
The bars use 5/16" male & female cheap joints, The tube is 3/8" OD x 14swg wall so i could tap dierectly into it.
The bars pickup on the radiator bar lower mounts.
A piece of 2" x 1" wood is a temporary prop. The rear mount is glassed into the fender, it has holes randomly drilled to aid with the bonding.
Sorry this bit is a bit boring but i know there a 3 people who bought bodies from me and it may help them.

The last couple of evenings have been raining so i carried on in the workshop and started making the headers, The Cadillac is like a Ford and has square primary pipes.
Luckily i still had a tool that i made as an apprentice for making Ford header pipes square 40 years ago, Its just a few bits of 1/4" steel plate welded together in a taper and then the pipe is hammered square, works well even with stainless tube. The primaries are 316L stainless steel 2" OD which is slightly over 1-7/8" ID

Don back in the day we didn't have to open the frige we put a barrle of beer in the frige and put the taper in the door or the side CO2 bottle outside frige on floor PROBLEM.... get started and get smashed nothing got done in the shop..Well nothing constructive anyway..
You sir are a true craftsmen... My hat is off to you..
Thanks
Harmon
Steve,
Just curious, with your tubes mating to the flange the way they do when you weld the outside are you going to have room for the bolts? When I did mine (SBF, more rectangular than square) I formed the tube to fit inside the flange hole, then welded the outside. You're losing the thickness of the tubing all around, plus the weld filet. I'm trying to visualize those bolts in place with the tube welded.
It's amazing that you got those pipes to reshape like that, Steve. A few years ago we bought header flanges for Dan's 455 Olds and were going to make our own headers. When we tried making the round pipes large enough to fit the big square holes in the flanges, they kept splitting, no matter what we did. You make it look easy.
Don
Thanks for the compliment Harmon. Its appreciated.
Roger there is more room there than it looks, the bolts are about 1/8" away from the tubes, it will be TIG welded so the bead will be tiny where the bolts are, Or i might weld them on the inside as i have a tiny TIG torch that could just get in there.
The ports will be port matched to the headers so i had the flanges cut to exactly the shape of the port, if i put the tube inside it would spoil the gas flow.
What a weird day today was, an hour of sun then a rain shower and then back to sun again, been like that all day, anyway during the dry patches my trusty helper Gomez came over to assist in sorting the rear windows as I needed 3 hands.
First job was to make a template
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/0a16b58e.jpg
Then the shape was transferred to the acrylic sheet and marked
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/00df0bc8.jpg
This is Gomez being humerous, little things please little minds !!!
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/a7a3ecf7.jpg
Next the holes were marked for the 3/16" button head screws, also the inner was marked & cut out.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/8feb16fa.jpg
A quick check of the fit, all good.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/a360fa11.jpg
The template was clamped to the body and the holes drilled.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/e38f313a.jpg
Next the holes were transferred to the acrylic.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/fbe98e9d.jpg
Next the windows were bolted in. I was going to paint a black border around the window but i now have a better idea that will look like they are in rubber, stay tuned.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/38fc4f92.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/747956cc.jpg
The door & window handles are now polished.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/2abcb9d5.jpg
Also the hood is finally gapped, I think i have it right at last but may make the gap slightly bigger when i do the body work as i think its still a little tight to look authentic. Maybe someone with a steel Willys will be able to confirm the gap width ?

I think you will put a rubber extrusion around those windows with a little urethane to stop water leaks.
Steve very nice work on the hood supports, header pipes and the windows. You make it all look so easy! I'm enjoying watching this build very much.
I always enjoy watching the stainless twins' work too..I didnt think you would be allowed to use perspex for your windows Steve?? Us colonials arent allowed to..:(
Yep,I hope you urethane those windows in,specially with your weather patterns..
You can tell where our influences come from...:o:D:D
Something similair Whip, I have a cunning plan
Glad your enjoying Steve, I certainly am :D
Yes Robin they will be sealed, can't do it yet though till its painted. Perspex ok but not for front screen.
Been playing with ideas for a black border around the windows.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/80fd91b9.jpg
Black border looks good.
Did you apply weather stripping foam to the lip?
No mate thats my template painted black to see what it looked like. just a mock up
Last night i made up some trims for the rear windows to give the appearence of rubber trim, Looks much better.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t30th20111.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...st30th2011.jpg
Looks much better with the trim installed! The red windows sure do go with the olde gasser theme! Very nicely thought out and carried out, Steve!
Killer work as always, Steve. Great job on the headers!
Cheers Dave, I just noticed the windows do actually look Red in the pics although they are actually Orange.
Thanks mate.
Steve nice touch, again attention to detail is a quality we love with your threads!
So Steve,
How did you make the trim pieces that look like inset channels? PS - the windows look dark amber/orange on my screen, just like the 60's!
Looking better and better, Steve. Nice work!
Don't you and Sue have a plane to catch or something? :D
(Your headlights haven't shown up yet, BTW)
Don
They said it would take 6 days to get to you Don, I ordered them on Tuesday, Sue has started packing already
Well obviously no progress as I'm still in the states but thanks to Don I got my headlights, taillights and door handles from Willys Replecement Parts.
The quality is perfect although they were a little spendy
They will finish the car off great though so worth it in the long run, I will post some pics when I get back to blighty next week.
Just wanted to say a huge thankyou to my dear friend Don, thanks bud
The pleasure was all ours, Steve. It was one of the most fun weekends we have had for a while. That cider you drink isn't all that bad, but it's really hard to keep up with you Brits when you party. :D
Hope you and Sue have a safe, comfortable flight home. :)
Don
Well after getting over the jetlag i found a couple of hours today so decided to get my headlights/taillights fitted to give the car a face !!!
First job was to cutout the supplied template to find it wasn't as close as it first appeared to be
Any way i used it in the end but moved some of the holes around.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/aaf95e15.jpg
Next the bowl/reflector was trial fitted, these fit from behind so the back side of the GRP was sanded smooth for a good fit.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/378e8b3a.jpg
Then the outside bezel/glass was fitted, really makes the car look different and gives it a face.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t30th20118.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t30th20116.jpg
Next i turned to the rear end, A quick phone call to my mate Wayne gave me the dimensions of where they should fit and holes were drilled.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/74ed5c1c.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/17e65bdb.jpg
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t30th20115.jpg
While i was working at the rear i thought i would fit the battery cutoff switch, I went with one with alternator protection from Moroso.

Really changes the front to get some lights and trim installed!!!! Are those repop pieces, Steve?
