Some of the CDS turned up which was correct size 1" x 1/8" wall so could get the seat baes made up and fitted.
First job was to put some 90 degree bends in to form the hoop, thought about doing this in one piece but virtually impossible to get it spot on to slide onto the stubs so made it 2 pieces and used some 3/4" x 1/8" wall as a sleeve, this was rosette weled into the two halves and then the joint finish welded.

Now i had the perimeter sorted i cut some 1.5" x 1/8" to size to bridge across and keep the tubes constant and also provide somewhere the seats could bolt to.

I jumped in the seat to check the strength and it seemed fine but Gary had said earlier that he thought it could do with an extra strut just incase, I was dead against putting a strut in as i wanted it completely clear under the seats, anyways after a bit of applied thought we decided to put in a less obvious strut that would strengthen but not look unsightly.
The tube is again 1" x 1/8" wall and has a slight bend in it to tuck it up sort of out of sight. I spun up a couple of bungs in the lathe and found two 10mm low quality rose joints in my box that fitted the bill nicely.
A couple of brackets were knocked up that will bolt into the chassis through the floor and after welding the strut in it was done.

Looks very sharp, but I would worry about my a** bending the front of the seat down. Not to knock your work at all, it is some of the best I have witnessed on the net. I would think it should hold a 200 lbs (about 91 Kgs) guy just fine. I'm a bigger guy at around 285 (around 130.5 kgs) and would think that would wear down in front.
Checked it with my friend without the brace and it didn't move at all, he is 280lbs :D
i'm a svelte 210lbs
Even more impressed! We need a double thumbs up smiley!
This will do: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../happy0034.gif
I didn't want to sit on his lap
I'm lovin it. Excellent workmanship.
Keep it coming.
Way to go Steve. That should hold up an elephant doing a 1 G turn!
Steve, I really hope the changes in the site don't cause you to consider not posting any longer. Not only because I personally like you, but because of the fact you have been an excellent contributor and member in all respects. This site needs people like you who know what you are doing and are willing to freely share that knowledge with the rest of us. But I do share your frustration over logging on issues and also the fact that the "feel" is not the same as it was before the change.
We may never know all the reasons that prompted Brent to do what he did, and that is fine. But I think Brent needs to look at what has happened to the site since the change. When you have good, solid members like you, Ken T, and others ready to throw in the towel, it should be cause for concern. As I mentioned, I TOLERATE the site the way it is, but even after giving it some time it still doesn't feel right to me.
Maybe we are in the minority, but at least we have been honest with our comments.
Don
Seat mounts and the seats look great, Steve!!!!
Just a personal note on all this site stuff.... I had some problems and issues, after checking with people that know, the problem was me and my computer, not the site. I've been on CHR long enough to know that for the majority of us, the format is quite insignificant, the people and the information exchanged is what counts. Not being a 'puter guy, I believe Brent and Bill when they give the reasons for changing the format---if the old one was junk and no longer repairable then fine, let's get going on the new one and work the bugs out of the site, and work them out of our own systems. I would imagine waiting for it to change back to the way it was is about as much worth waiting for as the price of gasoline returning to 19 cents a gallon for premium---no one who takes a realistic outlook at the situation would expect either to happen!!!!!
All your new input is a breath of fresh air on the site, Steve!!! It's made a lot of us kick our game up a couple levels!!!! I would only hope that this exchange of information and our love of all things noisy, neat, and fast would take priority over wishing things could be some other way---when it's impossible for them to be that way. I think your like a lot of us on here, Steve....Hot Rodding is the priority, and whatever and however the 'net can work to promote Hot Rodding and share our common interest is best left up to those whose specialty this computer stuff is!!!!!
The site works fine for me, I guess that's probably because I'm just too stupid to realize that obsolete and unrepairable was better!!!!!:whacked::whacked::LOL::LOL:
Thanks mate.
:lol::lol::lol:
Don & Dave, I check in the site every day to catch up with what you guys and others are doing, sometimes i get straight in but others i just cannot get on, i'm not big on patience i'm afraid so i just go off to the other sites i like, its a shame as the old Club Hotrod had something special, can't put my finger on it but it had a warm friendly feeling that appears to be not so apparent.
I havn't a clue what the answer is to this problem unfortunately, I won't leave completely as i've made too many friends here but if you don't see me on here its not for the want of trying !!!
Hey Steve, Its awfully lonesome in the computer saddle since you stopped posting. And anyway,we are still waiting to see some update on that awesome '27 Tall T Coupe that is under construction in your workshop.
Steve..its lookin good..Love ya workmanship, and the way you go about things..Its funny,,I used to have the odd time when I couldnt get on the site, and it really p***ed me off..Since the new look has happened,I have only had hassles once,,that was last week..I too have had an inward grizzle, but as the other site I frequent changed only a few weeks earlier,I sorta got to grips with CHR changes,,,not to say I like it..just that I will put up with it.
On another note..what layup did you use on your Willys body??what weight of mat??and have you considered core mat in the larger panels,to give it a bit more strength?
Steve, I'll throw some more rose petals in your path. I really enjoy that extra twist you put to each phase of construction, I admire that kind of creativity and often practicality. I note that you put a pair of flanges on the seat mounting crossrail for ease of removal.............small thing but very practical without getting fussy.
Speaking of fussy, that seems to be what I see in the "unfriendliness" of the new format here. I have no idea what causes your logon issues, that shouldn't be the result of the software change as long as you did the clean out of the old logon info in your computer. I made my comments earlier about the difference in how Brent sees the world of computer applications as opposed to those of us who are "normal". What this software offers is sort of like the latest in cell phones that have all the options for quick movement from voice to text, to internet, to IM, to twitter, and on and on............................great for those who embrace all that crap, more annoying for those who just want a portable phone, plain and simple.
I think we all like speed so we really get frustrated when the site won't load up, or fails to send a response we just typed, Brent it's time to add nitrous to the server!
Keep them build pics coming, Steve. You know how it sucks when your satellite TV goes out right near the end of a movie or a ballgame? That what it would feel like if we didn't get to see you keep going on your car!
Hi Whip, in between the Willys i have done a bit on the 26T, i'm at engine building stage, I've got the short motor put together and in the middle of modifying the heads, there is a lot to do on them but hopefully be done in a couple of weeks.
Hi Robin, my mate the laminator does all the body's so i will ask him as i'm not sure, He put core mat in another body we sold and it made a hell of a difference.
Yeah i have to agree with you Bob, not sure how it can be put right though ??? Thanks for the kind comments, they are appreciated.
Ha ha ha yeah i know exactly what you mean mate.
Well i decided to take the afternoon off to get the cage finished, all done except for the finish welding which will be done on the bench.
Right from the start i wanted to install a diagonal bar just like they had in the old days.

My best mate Brizey popped over on saturday and we got talking about fuel tanks and placement, It turned out the Brian still had the tank from the 46 Ford pickup he broke to build his roadster 30 years ago !!!
A quick measurement check and it looked like it was made for it, The mounting flange was even at the same angle as my floor !!!
I picked it up from Brian monday morning and installed it monday night. its in amazing condition for 65 years old, the inside is like new !!! Thanks Brian.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...ly5th20111.jpg
First job was to cut a hole for the tank to drop into.

Hey Steve, adore that 2nd to last photo with the rear of Sue's pickup in the back ground. Now who said one needs a large carpeted workshop to store and build ones toys in eh, our American friends are so spoilt with there large shops etc.;)
I envy you, Steve. This is going to be a very cool gasser when you get it done. Just something about gassers that excite most car guys when they see one, me included.:)
Don
The tank looks like it was made for the car Steve!!! Just one more good reason to ever throw anything away, a good bud is going to be needing it in 30 years or so!!!!! Sure do wish all the guys I've been saving stuff for all these years would stop by and pick up their parts, need the room!!!!!!!!!!
Really am enjoying the build, a really first rate era correct project.---I just never seem to be able to stay on the "era correct" path, so easy to get off the track in favor of modern and trick---my compliments to you!!!
Agreed Whip, Only a couple of days ago i was asked how i could build a car on the drive by someone, I replied "its not what you got but how you use it"
Me too Don, I'm quite excited about this one. havn't heard from Dan lately, how are things with the 455 ???
Thanks Dave, Not as era correct as i would like but its pretty close, trouble with era correct is it can get expensive as them period parts are extremely sought after :(
Any news on your project, havn't seen anything ???
Dan has been laying low lately, spending a lot of time at work and saving some money for the new engine we are going to build for the car. We have Turkey Run at Thanksgiving and need to get the new one done an running before then. He is making some other changes while he is at it, like a higher stall convertor (3000 vs 2400 that is in it now) and just stuff like that.
Don
Well in between the showers that wern't supposed to happen I had a pretty good day
Got the seat belt mounts in, I've only got a 4 point harness on the drivers seat but some in on the passenger side just incase.
Had to get longer eye bolts as the standard length wern't long enough.

Thought it was time to get the steering column sorted so had a rummage through the scrap bin and came up with some 1.75" x 16swg stainless tube and a piece of 3/4" x 1/8" steel tube, and a lump of Nylatron bar, perfect ingrediants for a steering column.
I'm using a stainless Double D U joint so first thing was to make up a bung and weld into the tube. The bung is a piece of 3/4" bar that was roughly ground to have flats on each side then finished with a hand file to ensure a nice snug fit in the DD joint.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...S/1e330704.jpg
Next the bushes were turned up from the nylatron bar and bush holders turned, these are welded into the ends of the 1.75" tube for the bushes to press into.

I had a quick release hub for the steering wheel end so the hex insert was turned to be a nice press fit into the inner tube then welded and rosette welded in the sides.

Very neat, simple design executed to perfection! Really like seeing the details of the pieces & parts fitting together, and the finished product. Thanks for posting all the pictures.
Thanks mate, simple is my middle name LOL
Steve, I saved this quote that you did in post # 17 back in March:
Qoute: This one won't have much in the way of detail as i'm looking for the look of the Willys in the film Hotrod, I'm going to paint it probably primer Grey but not shiny, I will use matting agent so its not shiny, Shock horror !!!
The reason I saved it was because I KNEW you wouldn't be able to keep your little "detailing" hands away from making this one just the way you do all your cars.:LOL: Sorry, Mate, just had to rub your nose in it a little !
The interior is looking very nice and very much like a gasser should.
Don
I love the simple beauty of the column build, fits with much of what you do.
But ya gotta do us a favor........................either wear long pants or put up a sunglass warning....PLEASE.......................................that last picture damn near blinded me!!!;)
I thought you old fellas forgot everything you read :LOL::LOL:
I'm not going mad on this one honest Don :p
