The car looks great, Falcon!!!! You're going to have yourself one heck of a fleet of MoPars!!!!
BTW--You will get the car done in 18 months, it'll just take some "adjusting" to what your start date is!!!!!!!:whacked::whacked:

That's really coming along nice. I took the coming week off and once I get a few things done on my truck I just might head up your way, I need to get out of Springfield for a day or two.
One of those good milestones to hit!
Nice job, all that body work and prep shows!
Thanks all; now it's time for a nice break. My wife and I and some other family members are heading to Seattle for a 7 day Alaskan cruise on Wednesday. It'll be nice to get away from work and from the 100+ temps we've had for a week. NTFDAY, I wish our scheduled lined up; you'd be more than welcome if I was going to be home. Bon Voyage, all; I'll try to log on and touch base while I'm on the ship.
Enjoy the cruise. Great time of year for Alaska!
We got some time in on this one the last few days. The door and trunklid jambs are painted and we hung them back on the car. Over the next few weeks we'll finish up a little work on them and get them painted; then start on the front clip.
You are really looking good.
Looks really good! This is where all the hours of body work starts paying off, huh???
It's definitely been a long haul, Dave. I was looking back and I started this thread 4 years ago. Just adding up costs in my head it will probably be another year or two before this is done. But I think it'll be a nice looking ride when it's done.
Heck, that's a quick build for me on my stuff!!!! Started on my Ranchero a few years before that, it's still sitting in the little garage being used as a storage shelf and waiting for it's turn on the chassis table!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Dave, I thought that little Bronco you started on was way cool! Put that ahead of the Ranchero!
Paint looks great! Dave's right the prep work shows!
Thanks! I'm anxious to get it out to the local shows; there's very few late 40's Mopars around here that I've seen.
Looking nice falcon..coming along well..Like it a lot..:cool::cool:
It's time to get the front clip done and painted so the first order of business was to figure out how it all what parts to use and how it all went together. I've got tons of parts for this thing but I wasnt the one who disassembled it so I was scratching my head on how it all went together. I had the fenders on it before but never had the full clip together with all the little inner panels and braces. I painted the insides of the fenders and grill with POR 15 a few days ago. After rooting through several boxes I got all the good parts sorted and figured out which ones were going on the car. I also made a trip to Lowes and bought all new bolts rather than trying to clean up the old ones. Finally it's all together and we can start getting it ready for paint. I think I'm just going to build new inner fendrs and mount the battery in the trunk. The factory ones wont even come close to fitting around the engine.
Lookin' good! You managed to work the plan far better than I, escaping to the shop and accomplishing something on the car today! Good work!
looks good with the sheetmetal back on the car, Falcon!!!! all downhill from here!
Looking good Falcon. Can't wait to see her in paint.

If you have a TSC (tractor supply) or probably any other farm supply store in your area you can buy bolts, nuts, and washers by the pound there. It's much cheaper than Lowe's and you can mix and match your selection. They usually come in three grades: standard,(hardware store stuff) grade 5,(automotive) and grade 8,(high tensile strength). When I go there I usually grab a handfull of a few different sizes to keep in my shop. I almost never have need for a nut or bolt that I can't find in my stash.
I wish we had something like that here; closest thing we have is a Buchiet's Farm Supply and they are about the same price as Lowe's. But it wasn't too bad; I paid about $25 for everything I needed to put the clip together. I've got tons of old Mopar bolts but cleaning them all on a wire wheel really sucks. I need one of thoses little bolt tumblers with the glass bead media.
Didn't know you could get get grade 8's by the pound. Wonder what they charge, compared to by the bolt at Ace.
i buy them by the pound have a TSC not far from the shop .i do not wast time cleaning up old bolts less a old oem restore deal .i use the 8s they have a neat gold dip coating .looks good on a new engine build and use them around on the shop . but were i stop.. i will not use there bulk bolts is were you going to bet you life on them. there trace ability is qustionable at best. i have seen them fail before they reach TQ for the grade fastener they are . i buy bolt that have trace ability and class fastener for any thing that going to hold parts on that you do not want to fall off like a lower controle arm
Sounds good Pat
It's been a while since I got to put some time in on this one; I spent a few hours wet sanding the front clip and had to rebuild one of the hood hinge mounting edges. Feels good to see a little progress again.
It's taking shape. Keep the updates coming.
Any progress is better then none! All my stuff is still just sitting and waiting it's turn!!!!
Yep any progress is good progress.
Yeah, last week I did a major garage cleanout, mass throw away, and sold a truckload of parts. I havent had this much room in several years. With the 51 done for the year and space to work I hope to make some serious progress on this one. Got the other side of the hood done today.
Been working on the hood several nights this past week; finally got it to where I could put some etching primer on it. I'll do the other side in a day or so.
Oops, that's a crappy picture. My wife got me an iPad mini for my birthday last week; still trying to figure out the camera.
I went looking for the rear hood brace and found it was missing; bummer! After checking around one of the HAMB members came up with one for a Desoto. The curve was right but the end where it bolted to the hinges was different so after welding on some short tabs I think we're good. Got a coat of etching primer on and hopefully we'll get a trial fit with the hinges bolted on done this week.
Heck yeah, that ought to work for a brace.... Hood is looking good, Falcon!!!
Thanks, Dave. I moved the car to the other side of the garage today to make it easier to get my 51 in and out. Here's a trial fit on the hood; it's close but will need some work for a better fit in the front. This is actually the hood off the 47 parts car; the 48 hood was ate up.
Wow, nice work! You definitely have your hands full right now. Keep at it!
Sweet. She's coming together nicely.
.
Yeah, I see a gap or two on the front end Falcon, gonna take some tweakin'!!!
The hood was almost 1/4" too long in the front. I cant figure out how it was that far off but after we trimmed the back of the hood it finally started fitting right. We also re-primed and blocked the passenger door and decklid so it's finally starting to get really close to painting the front clip and doors.
