Thanks, I'm really hoping to make some big strides forward on it in the coming year. I sure would like to hear the engine run and see it all one color.

Thanks, I'm really hoping to make some big strides forward on it in the coming year. I sure would like to hear the engine run and see it all one color.
I've got a few days off so I got a little garage time in. Note to self: Check if fabricated motor mount is going to hit the header before you weld it all the way around. This sucked! I had to cut the whole thing loose and move it forward. Live and learn; it wont happen again. I also took another 3" off of the steering column; it fits really nice now and plenty of header clearance on the drivers side.
Yup, always an opportunity to learn!!!! I would imagine most of us here have done the same or similar (or worse!)... Engine is going to look good all bolted in and ready to go!
Falcon, you gave me a great idea. If I can build a bracket to offset my motormount by say 1 1/2 " foward, on the drivers side, Ill have the clearance I need to get my headers to fit, with out having to move the whole engine foward by 1 1/2 inches, just might fix my problem! Thanks for your post!
Yeah, Id rather move the mount than the motor, Stovens. Glad it might have helped you!
We finally got the decklid, doors and rear fenders on, primered, and sprayed with guidecoat. Now for a lot of wet sanding and hopefully some color in the near future.
Car is really looking good now that it's all in primer!!!! Time to get out the water bucket and the 400 grit, going to be great to see this one in color, Falcon!!!!!
Looking forward to the paint job.
.
Sometimes it feels like time stands still. Then it takes of again Looking good
I was painting a 95 Honda Civic I bought to get it ready for re-sale and ended up with 1/2 gallon of Corvette Red left over so I found a good use for it. Now all my interior parts and wheels are done. Pardon the crappy cell phone pics.
looks good! That should contrast the white body nicely...with a red pin stripe it'll all pull together
The red is really going to be great in the car....but then my name is Dave and I'm a redaholic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:LOL::LOL:
Well, if it was mine, I'd go with a creamy white vs refrigerator white and on the red pin stripes, less is more:).....but wait! It's not mine and nobody asked me!!!! So, do it however you like, falconvan!!!:LOL:
You've done an amazing job on the build thus far!!!!!
Not much exciting to show but lots of wet sanding going on It took about 10 hours just to do the door and part of the cowl and quarter. I dont know if its Nason primer or that I let it dry for a few weeks before starting sanding but this stuff is really hard to sand.
Lookin' good! I wish mine were up to this point. I am about to drag my 46 Chrysler coupe to the shop soon though...
Thanks; I finally made is around the whole car with the first round of sanding. Now I need to do some spot primer and go again. What's the plans for your 46?
Time to pay the piper for all the budget priced bodywork I've been getting on this. I had a deal with my bodyman that when he got the funds to build a new motor for his 87 IROC that I would help him and let him use a garage space. He's ready and he grenaded the 305 so were putting together a 355 sbc with 10:1 pistons, a Lunati cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and a modified factory tuned port injection. Now he's working on the 48 and I'm working on this.
Ive been staying busy but nothing worth pictures. I've got about half the car wet sanded with 600 and bought a few more goodies like steering coupler stuff and a fuel pump. I didnt like the way my wheels came out so Im dropping them at the powdercoater today. I also think Im going to go with bucket seats rather than a bench so Im looking around. I've got the whole week off so Im hoping to finish sanding. As soon as we have some paint on it I can start some more serious reassembly.
I finally made it all the way around with 600; I had so much wet sand mud on the car I couldnt tell if it was good or not so I pushed it out and gave it a good scrubbing. Im getting close, just have some touch up spots to go over. I was also looking at my wheels and decided I dont want them painted so I dropped them off at the powdercoating shop.
Wow Pretty soon she'll be ready for some paint! Nice work!
Looking good and getting close, Falcon!!!! With a car that size make sure you take your lunch with you when you're working your way around it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys. You're not kidding, Dave; I think it'll be a while before I try another full blown frame off rebuild. I like to think im a pretty motivated guy when it comes to car projects but after 5 years of working on this it gets tough to stay motivated. Seeing some paint on it will definately make me feel better about it.
Yeah Falcon, I know what you mean. In my 6th year of my frame-off project I was at a Good Guys show and there was a 41 Chevy coupe for sale. The owner had medical problems and was forced to sell. It was a complete shell, blasted and primed with a sbc, tranny and IFS. He wanted 12K for it and I decided right there if I ever take on another full project I will start with something like that.
Yep ditto what John said. I'm five years into the truck now. Sometimes it's money that slows me down, other times it's motivation. A clean start with little to no body work is very appealing right now!
Yeah, I was looking at one like that on Craigslist. A 52 GMC truck with a MII, tilt, G-body rearend and a decent looking fresh red paint job for $2800. No drivetrain, glass, or interior. If the stable hadnt already been full, I'd have grabbed it.
I am having similar problems..Several years, part time into the wife's 55Customline,,frame off,,new rear end, anti sway bar on rear, new rear quarters,,rebuild door bottoms,a few small patches in floor,,Injected 302W/AOD,,(Aussie version)power steering,etc..Have had money shortages, motorvation shortage,,energy shortage...:LOL:Trying to get a bit done as often as I can at the moment,,and now the work is getting in the way..Cant stop,,cos I got other projects to start..Just need the time to enjoy them,next..:LOL:
Falcon,,its lookin good..keep going,,like I am..pickin away,on job at a time..hehe
Im not giving up, Robin. It'll get there when it gets there and I've got my other car to tinker with in the meantime. I did just pick up my wheels from the powdercoating place and they look awesome; I'm glad I sprung the extra $$ for it. Also bolted a few more things on the engine and started dragging out some parts that have been stored for a while.
The wheels look good.
"...... started dragging out some parts that have been stored for a while....."
That's the part I like, it's usually like christmas....the down side is finding the duplicates and parts you still need.
.
I got a few things bolted on; coil packs, MSD, sensors. It's starting to look like something. I still need to figure out an A/C compressor. I've seen some exaples of the the GM pancake compressor mounted with S-10 brackets on an LS1 to get it up high. I'll probably go with that.
Engine looks good now that it's going together Falcon! Looks like plenty of room up on top to build some nice brackets and get the compressor mounted!
I spent last evening hanging plastic for a paint booth. We mixed up some Slicksand and hit a few low spots; one those are blocked out she'll be ready to shoot. We're leaving on an Alaska cruise on July 4th; should be all one color before we take off.
Looks great . Fun to see some folks making progress. As usual, fighting time and weather, to keep house from falling apart(siding repair and paint this summer!) So waiting on truck for when friends are around to help get the engine back in!
Those wheels do look nice!
Finally after 4 years I got some paint on the car this weekend. I think it came out nice; next step to finish up the doors and decklid and shoot them, and then onto the front clip. I gotta laugh; I looked back at the first posting of this thread from May of 08 and I had said I thought i"d be done with the car in about 18 months. Boy, did I have a lot to learn.
