. this is my " new " toy .. 78 F100 that i`m shoehorning my 429 into .. my last try did not end well as it was too new a vehicle and there were too many electronic things i could`nt fix with my torch and welder .. i knew this would be nearly a bolt in as i`ve had this same motor in a 71 truck 25 years ago .. the only issue iv`e ran across is the header fitment .. these headers are for the 97 ford truck i tried last year and are quite a bit different .. i had to cut off the second tube and join it to the first one as it ran directly into the steering box .. it was already a 400M engine so the 429 fit right up to the C6 trans .. i already had 429 frame mounts laying around .. as of now i have no intention of painting it .. if i find a job anytime soon i may .. i may smell smoke next week ..

Hoss I'm the same. I am in no hurry to get my truck done, just working on it when I have time or money, whichever is abundant !

Yep, there are those types of people everywhere which honestly believe one has to stop the world from rotating and just concentrate on ones project until finished. Sadly, life doesn't allow that to happen and those types often wonder why they are lonely and broke .

That truck looks to be in really nice shape. My projects are the same. I rarely get much time to work on them lately because I have to work on everyone else's so I can buy parts for mine. :LOL:

yes .. i got it going yesterday .. surprise !! it has no brakes .. been sitting for 10 years .. no biggy .. but i do need to get some exhaust on it .. sounds like an old buick with a hole in the muffler .. this motor oddly has never sounded good thru open headers even with all the various vehicles it has been in .. just sounds better thru the flowmasters ..

That's good news on the startup, bad news on the brakes but I guess it's to be expected.

why do we use the word ton to describe how heavy something is ? i know it means 2000 lbs but why not just say " my car weighs 4000 lbs " rather than say " my weighs 2 tons " ..it confuses me when i`m watching something on TV and the say a ship weighs 450 thousand tons ..why ? why not just say it weighs 900 thousand lbs . or is 450 thousand tons more than 900 thousand lbs ? .. see why i`m confused .. iv`e got a ton of stuff i need to do today .... how much is that ?

450 thousand tons is 900,000,000 lbs----------900,000 lbs is 450 tons

and in ship/oceans, a ton is actually a term used for how much water is displaced by the boat hull---- equals 35 cubic ft of water, 2240 lbs--also known as long ton, metric ton, etc--------

well there you have it ! if they had simply said the ship weighs 900 million lbs i would have said " man !! that`s a heavy ship !! " . But at 450 thousand tons i had no clue ..kinda the same when they measure distance in light years .. light is pretty quick !!! HA ..

And then to add the the confusion what is the difference between a " Ton " and a " Tonne " or is that some inbred playing with the English language again ?

Tonne is usually used to mean a metric tonne in our neck of the woods, metric measurements are Continental, whereas a ton is an Imperial measure.
Pennies too are Imperial, not metric; so therefore there are no pennies in a tonne.
You're mixing apples and oranges.

i have washer and dryer these days but still from time to time i like to go to the laundry mat specially when i have more than i want to do at home ( i hate wasting water ) ,, so tonite i head off and do my wash and as i am waiting the 23 minutes required i take a short trip around the community .. as i am the local expert on all walnut trees and some other nut trees within a 10 mile radius i have also become an authority on pecan ( that`s pernounced PUH KAHN ) trees as well .. in my drive i spot a loaded pecan tree at the side of the road about a 1/4 mile from the nearest residence ..i stop in the middle of the street with flashers going and proceed to fill my pockets with pecans .. off in the distance i hear " what are you doing ?" .. after a couple of loud "POPS "i respond " PECANS "" .. i quickly jump in my car and speed away blowing the horn as i went by the house .. later down the road as i`m cracking the pecans open i find they are all rotten .. i`m thinking i need to go back by that house and demand my money back ...

Many years ago when there was still a considerable amount of farming in southern California, we lived in south Orange County between two huge ranchos. To the north was the Irvine Ranch, and they had thousands of acres under till with all sorts of rotated crops from tear to year. One field had tomatoes, and the pickers and cleaners had gone through, and the field was ready for the plow, but there were thousands of tomatoes just laying on the ground, and there were a lot of the field hands and their families gathering the culls that were good enough to use but were going to go under the plow. Well, my Bride and her friend were passing by, and asked one of the hands if they thought it was ok for them - Mrs. Rr and friend - to pick up some tomatoes, too; lady said sure, why not? So they were out there collecting what Mrs. Rr said were some pretty good 'maters, and along comes the Sheriff and an Irvine Ranch Marshall, and told them they were going to arrest then for trespassing and theft. They protested, pointing out the other folks gathering fruit, and the nice Marshall just shook his head and told them it was a Ranch policy; they could leave what they had gathered, and head on down the road, but not to do that again. That field is now all industrial/commercial complexes.

My VFW just started a composting program. It his always bothered me that the waste food goes into the land fill.

Now, it's actually illegal to feed scrap food to farm animals, so I'll certainly TRY to keep the chickens out of the compost pile.

There are two veteran organizations in the states VFW and AL (American Legion). You have to have been in theatre to belong to the VFW, but to have only served honorably to belong to the American Legion.

Yes and yes. My grandson is an jet engine mechanic stationed at Cherry Point North Carolina. He's home on leave at present and were trying to get the 66 Mustang road worthy so he can drive it to N. C.

I think one of the best things I did for my brother was get his 92 Ford put back together so he could take it back to Cali when he was home on leave once. I think that thing kept him going. :LOL:

Just got back St Jude e.r. got in knife fight with a butterball and the turkey won the first round. Got 5 stitches in my finger. B got home and put him in the oven at 350 f. who say's revenge isn't nice and juicie

i dont think i walked the floor as much when my son was being born .. the iron bowl will be on in a bit ..BAMA and that other team ... Ohio and Michigan i will watch off and on though i dont care who wins .. i wish they both could lose ..

i have`nt worked on anything newer than my 1978 truck in the last 20 years .. my 2009 toyota has the same coolant it came with .. i figured it was time to change it .. it checked to be good at 10 above .. it wont get much colder than that in bama but one needs to be safe .. so i drain out and capture one gallon of coolant so as to know for sure my mixture ratio and get a zero or below freeze protection .. i get the gallon out and proceed to fill it back up and only about a Quart and a half goes in ..i`m waiting for the system to burp or open or whatever it needs to do to get the rest of the coolant in .. i notice my heater is blowing cold air and my temp gauge is bouncing off the hot side .. it took me a half hour of pouring in about 3 ounces at a time to finally get the system full .. am i missing something ? is one supposed to fill newer cars with pressurized coolant ?

Have you checked any of the coolant tubes, thermostat housing, or water pump area for a bleeding valve?

after being out of work for 6 months now i`m getting really bored .. in my job search i have found an assembly job at a local hardware store that i will inquire about .. putting together wheelbarrows and barbecue grills and another job at a Hot Rod shop near me .. i had never known the Hot Rod shop was around ..they are asking for a person who can attach body panels / fabricate piece parts / prep and do body work for final finish / do all mechanicals associated with restoration ... must have two years experience ... two years ... i have been building cars for 40 years and i dont think i could get a job there ..
