...and the date code on those tires will be 50! :LOL::LOL::LOL:**)
Printable View
And there is a topic. Tire dates, Mass is now checking the date codes while you go in for inspection sticker. They give you 10 years then they want you to replace them. I know my coupe is in excess of that and going by the odometer they've got 505 on it now. Well.. the fronts do anyway... the rears made many rotations while standing still... 8-)
But I didn't do this!
I guess the page got lost again... 8-( Was a good picture too!
Here we don't have annual inspections any longer, so they rely on the tire stores to monitor the dates, and they do because it sells tires. If you have a flat they are not supposed to repair anything older than 10 years, so you may have to shop for a small, independent shop or use plugs....
I'm thinking a little time with a Dremel tool can make the dates "go away"...
it bugs me when people follow me for more than a mile or two or more than two turns ,, i get paranoid and start turning down roads i had no intention of going ..so it is kinda strange that that very thing happened to me in reverse a few years ago .. on more than one occasion ,, i was coming home from playing basketball in park city tennessee one night and i fell in behind a car that i noticed had a bama tag .. after about ten miles i noticed the car in front of me swapped lanes and gave a signal to turn left .. so did i .. on cariger road which is about two miles long they came to an intersection which they could go left or right .. they went right onto boles road .. so did i .. after about a mile and a half there was a 4 way stop .. the car in front barely slowed down and ran the stop sign .. i stopped and went straight ahead also .. another half mile up the road the car made a sudden right turn onto roy davis road .. so did i .. up ahead about two miles was a one way stop at an intersection .. the car ahead ran it as well .. i went thru as normal .. one mile up the car turned on henry taylor rd ... so did i .. a mile and a half down they turned into a driveway .. my driveway .. i tried to figure out who this person was as i did not recognize the vehicle ,, i pull into my driveway behind them and as i get out of my car i hear a lady frantically speaking on her phone .. i cant make out what she is saying but i walk past her car and walk up on my front poarch and enter my house ... after a few minutes i see the car pull away .. the same thing happened a few weeks later to a much lessor degree but the can in front of me was a neighbor down the road who i knew ,, they stopped in front of my house as i pulled in my driveway .. these things happened at night ..
On a note related to Hoss429's post about the woman that thought he was following her.
I play the state lottery (I know it's a sucker play) and have my tickets checked by having them scanned at the local station. On one particular day the message came back that I should sign the ticket immediately and cash it in at a state lottery office. That meant that the winnings were more than the $500 that the station can pay out, but it doesn't show how much the winnings are. I took the ticket and walked back out to my truck. As I pulled out, I noticed that a guy that had been standing in the store when the attendant told me about the message pulled out behind me.
I made a couple of turns on my way home and he made the same turns. I got suspicious and made a right turn onto a side street. He made the same turn. I made another right turn at another side street and he followed. These were completely random turns. I made a couple of lefts and he followed those too. This was in a large neighborhood. After another random turn, he must have figured out that I knew he was following me and broke off his chase. I took a completely unusual route back to my house. I didn't want this guy to know where I lived.
I know this sounds paranoid, but I'm sure he was following me. The winnings turned out to be $1500. People have been killed for a lot less than that and this guy knew I had a ticket that was worth something. May have even been the jackpot as far as he knew.
Wowzer - that's s bit on the scary side, Ken. One more reason I typically don't leave home with out one of my friends: Mr. SIG or Mr. Kimber tucked under my shirt on my right hip.
I played the lottery once when the jackpot was $700 million. I went to the local liquor store and bought a ticket and then I find out they gave the winning numbers to somebody else! The nerve....
when i wore a younger mans clothes i was quite strong for my spindly size .. i had great leg strength and athletic control of toothpick arms .. i could throw a ball way farther than bigger guys ,, i could jump over small building with a single bound .. i do have a t shirt with a big S on it but i rarely wear it anymore .. anywho many years ago as i am some fellow employees were sitting outside eating lunch the conversation leaned towards who could pick up the back end of a little car parked nearby .. it was a ford fiesta ..a few guys tried and failed .. a big girl tried .. when my turn came i got the car about 6 inches off the ground .. everyone was amazed .. till Big Ray came by ..big RAy was 6 foot 7 and weighed 520 Lbs .. and it weren't fat .. he was a part time bouncer at several clubs and did not even have to show up most of the time .. just the fear of him being there kept people straight .. he boasted that he could pick the car up with one hand .. i picked the car up by backing up to it and lifting .. Big Ray walked to it forwards and with one arm raised it about 3 feet in the air .. there were two guys sitting in the car with the switch on listening to the radio .. Big Ray leaned forward and the car rolled about 5 feet and cranked up and smacked the rear bumper of a car in front of it .. no real damage was done and no one was going to complain even if there was ..
a rose by any other name is something .. i cant remember the quote .. i dont have a green thumb but i believe i have a record setter here .. this rose is nearly 6 inches across .. only two grew on the plant so it must dedicate itself to " bigger is better " .. my normal rose plant nearby has dozens of 2 inch roses .. these big ones have no smell so i dont know why nature made them this way .. they are just pretty to look at ..
I had to look up the rose reference from Shakespeare's Romeo and JulietThe phrase doesn't make sense out of context so here is the dialog it came from
Juliet:
O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.
Romeo:
[Aside] Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
Juliet:
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
Romeo:
I take thee at thy word:
Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;
Henceforth I never will be Romeo.
speaking of Shakespeare google up " Shakespeare and the 46th Psalms " .. there are those who believe he wrote some of it ..
Not exactly... The myth was that when King James directed the Bible to be translated, that Shakespeare was allowed to review some of the translations, and that in Psalm 46 he may have "polished" the wording to include a tribute to himself in his 46th year - counting 46 words from the start of that Psalm one finds "shake", and counting 46 words from the end (not counting the "Selah's) is "spear". A renowned Biblical scholar debunked the claim in a letter about 10 years ago, stating that it was nothing but a "hoary myth" and pointing out that in writings from 1549, before Shakespeare was born, the words "shake" and "spear" appeared in the same places in the Psalm. Pure coincidence.
SMFH, not been a good year. Today marks the 6th death of someone I know this year. Two friends of April’s son, April’s son, a young man who grew up with my son and today Larry a long time friend of April’s and someone who aloud me into his close nit group of people he called friends. (Larry’s son also passed away a couple of months ago)
Sadly the demons of the first 5 took them, April’s friend went in his sleep.
Makes me enjoy my life even the more and am thankful for everyday I’m allowed to have another day...joe
Hello everyone, techinspector1 here, visiting my very best friend on Planet Earth, NTFDAY. Have been in Florida for the past five years, now considering a relocation to Springfield, Missouri and formation of a new business.
.
Ditto what Roger says! Missed you! Hope to see more of you!
I'm still trying to get him back on here although I think it might be a lost cause.
The weather here seems to agree with Richard and I'm hopeful so I hope he'll stay awhile. In the meantime he can just posts as he wishes under my name.
Hey Richard you are missed!
You've certainly been missed. I for one always made a point of reading your posts.
Double post.
i dont know what a moderator can or can not do here but i finally got back on city data .. i had to join under a new name and a mod simply combined all my posts as hoss under my new name ..did not lose my post count or anything ..
Ken,
Instead of focusing on what you can't do maybe it's time to do what you CAN and simply log in on as a new account and write down the log in info. Once back on Tech can post, link to old posts he made, and lobby with Brent/Bill to get his accounts merged under the new name. Just a thought....
Please, tech, bring your wisdom and spirit back. Back under any name is better than gone.
Good guy .................
the gift that keeps on giving .. i dont suppose i have posted more than a dozen or two times on here my grief with a few crack heads that i Have the unfortunate pleasure of knowing ,, numerous thefts of property and numerous fruitless calls to the sheriffs department .. even with 4 warrants to one of them they are still out .. recently one of my credit cards was declined .. of coarse i look into it and find 4 thousand $ of unapproved use over the past weekend .. they know that i cant stop anything on a saturday or sunday .. so i check my other bank account and find i have written a check for 6 grand to this same person ..; i havent written a check in 15 years .. no need to .. but i kept a blank defaced one in my wallet for account info ...it is clear as day the check was whitewashed and forged but went thru anyway ...i call the law and get the same run of the mill run around ..can a buddy on here loan 10 grand till i get back on my feet again ..
is there a repair for a wiper scratch in a windshield ? i dont drive my pinto in the rain for various reasons but one is the wipers are a joke .. my last cruise lap into tennessee i came across a popup downpour and as soon as i turned on the wipers the drivers side wiper flew off .. i was only 5 or so miles from home so i kept on going while looking thru the passenger side of the windshield ,, i did not think with the water splashing so hard that the metal arm rubbing my windshield would do that much damage so quickly .. you can feel it with your fingernail and it is of coarse right in the line of sight as i drive .. i have used the Cracked windshield repair before with success but have not tried to remove a somewhat deep scratch ..you tube is of no help ..
I came across this Hoss. Hope it helps.

This talks about polishing a windshield - https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Scrat...m-a-Windshield
Note in #1 it says if your fingernail catches in the scratch it's not repairable, and the glass should be replaced.
i'm guessing if you have insurance it's covered, if not I bought a truck with a cracked windshield, to ld the guy I wouldn't pay what he wanted unless the windshield was replaced. He said he had a guy who could do it that day for two hundred bucks so he took that off the price and the guy came, installed and left in a two hour window. I got his number for future issues! My point is there are alot of car glass guys who moonlight on their off days
another long time no see post .. every since i built my V6 4,3 chevy pinto 20 years ago it has suffered from cold start issues .. even in warm weather .. i have electronic ignition and have wired it from the stock pinto HOT wire from the beginning .. i have recently found that if i hook a hot wire from the + battery to the + on the coil it will fire off immediately regardless if warm or not .. then i simply unhook the hot jumper and can go all day with normal ignition .. can i hook my + ignition to a post on the solenoid and solve this low voltage initial start up issue .. i understand electronic ignition needs 12 volts to operate but i dont know where to get 12 volts on my old points style wiring system . i dont want to go MSD as they have gotten too pricy ..
I had a problem on one of mine, and I was powering the ignition/injectors from the battery connection at the starter. During crank the starter would draw so much that the voltage there dropped to less than 9V. Hooking a wire direct to the + battery terminal to feed my "Ignition" source fixed the problem for me. If your Ignition Switch has a dedicated "IGN" position that's your spot because the "BAT" feed to the ignition switch is direct.
Early Chevy distributors used a ballast resistor to drop the voltage to the points after start up. That changed later, I don't remember when, to a resistance wire and both were connected to the "R" terminal on the solenoid. Run a wire, preferably 14 or 16 gauge, to the coil from the "R" post and that should solve your problem.
Ken,
The "R" terminal is only hot during crank, dead with the key "ON", and most of the newer Chevy starters no longer have the "R" terminal. Wiring instructions for non-point ignition tell us that the "R" terminal, if it's there, is not used. The instructions from Summit on replacement starters addresses the issues if you 1) have HEI/electronic ignition and an old starter or 2) are replacing an old starter on a points style distributor and need to keep that wire active - https://static.summitracing.com/glob...um-829100a.pdf
Hoss, it sounds like you may be cranking with no voltage to your coil, then as you release the key to "RUN/ON" your ignition goes "HOT" and it lights off as it's coasting off the starter. You could check by disconnecting the Battery connection at the starter, putting a volt meter on your +coil feed and putting the key to "START". If you happen to have the old "R" terminal starter then a second wire to your coil + should fix your starting problem, but you need to check the voltage on that "stock Pinto HOT wire" to be sure it's not reduced voltage for the old points system. No "R" terminal? How about Summit's relay fix, plus verifying your stock Pinto HOT wire voltage?
so i need to pull my starter and see if it has an (R) run terminal and hook my coil + to that ?
