I bought them from TNT customs out of Wyoming. I used to go down to Moab like 20 years ago, last time I went was about 8 years ago in a cherokee I no longer have. Still friends with a lot of people well known around here in the Jeep community. Here is a couple old 35mm shots.Quote:

My brother gets credit for most of that work, He has been putting at least 4 days a week into working on it, was hoping to have some color on this last weekend but we are still sanding the cab, Maybe this weekend? We are both also working our normal jobs and working on this when not doing that so it's like a second job at this point, my work starts doing mandatory overtime this week and every other for the rest of the year I'm told, extra truck money I guess. Gearvendors are sitting on my garage floor at this time too. :)Quote:

WOW! Looking at that 4th picture it's gonna really POP in the sunlight!! Nice job!
I'm happy with it, we ended up wet sanding all of it after it had sealer and three coats of color on, the sealer was spitting little goobers all over and we just had to fix that before continuing. Basically then it got shot again with some color and 4 coats of clear. We will let it cure for awhile before continuing, we got hit with dropping temperatures and a little snow here. Got some chassis things we will address, I need to get the mounting wood coated too in preparation for this stuff to go back on the chassis, that'll allow us to do a lot of assembly on the chassis and starts some upholstery during the winter?Quote:

Also got the gear splitter in and went down to Home Depot and got some waterproofing stain and sealer, had them blacken it up as dark as they could get it and slapped some on the wood mounting blocks for the cab and bed. Need to get some nord locks or something and get new headers mounted so we can fix up the exhaust when cab drops back on.

Interesting! I had no idea that it had wood blocks to mount the cab & bed to the frame! Was there any thought given to using a fabricated C channel with welded nuts for mounting? Just curious, and keeping the wood blocks may be the only good way to do it.
Seemed easier and cheaper to just buy wood blocks, Probably the same reason they did it then? Fills the void, frames are the same for coupes, sedans and trucks. We could of built some standoffs I guess. Here is a quick older pic of one of the original one piece blocks sitting on the frame, I just got the cheaper 3 piece ones now. The bed ones run from side to side.Quote:

I posed the question to Navy7797 who got his '40 pickup on the road a while back, and he confirmed that he'd done the same, making new wood spacers atop the frame between both cab & bed. That feature wasn't planted in my memory and just made me wonder why not steel? Like you said, Henry did it, it worked and it's not too difficult to fabricate. Thanks for the reply.

I'm always interested in details, and I learned that indeed the coupe, sedan & 1/2 Ton Pickup all had a common frame. However, the pickup cab and bed were designed to fit the heavier frames of the larger capacity trucks. To make them fit the lighter frame, the 1/2 Ton base model used wood spacers on the car frame. Henry was always thinking, and I'd bet that those wood spacers on the 1/2 Ton pickups were made from wood salvaged from shipping pallets!! I recall that at some point Ford specified that the pallets for materials shipped to their factory were to be white oak at least 1" thick. He then used the pallet wood for some of the internal structural wood on the cars, like framing door panels.

I had to do a little catching up on this build, WOW it's turning out soo beautiful! The filler on the cab looks exactly like my 53 did, they were defiantly used as pickups them, more dents than straight :LOL: Those old gauges are so beautiful, makes modern gauges look kind of sad.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It is turning out better than I planned when I started over 7 years ago. Might not be a ridler winner but I think will turn out better then a lot of stuff I see out there. Not bad for a garage family build I must say.
Ran out of compound still early in the polishing stage, panels aren't perfectly flat and got a bit of a orange peel look on the back panel.
