Well it's my brothers shop, I am fortunate he is helping me out. He lives right next to the in-laws too and that is where the paint booth is at.

We did our full mock up and I finally got the cab blasted, saved me a lot of trouble doing it by hand and was worth the money. Didn't find anything too terrible under the paint, I think we already fixed the worst of it. Got some new headers showing up today so we can fix my clearance issues and make it easier to fix with any future problems, bunch of other stuff I need to get ordered (everything is costing more by the day it seems) but we are making progress.

I love a nice blasted finish, so nice to work with. The dude doing the blasting isn't wearing a hood, is that a water blaster so there's no dust?
Should be getting everything I need to paint this turd ordered this week, I need to get wheels down to powder coat when I get a chance, chrome should be done by end of the month? Still got to get out in my garage and work on the bed wood.
Here is how the new vs old headers look. Its the right thing to do, hate doing things twice.

This truck is going to look black on cloudy days and at night.

Gonna be an awesome color that really POPS in the sunshine!
love the color!
Thanks guys, I really like the color, hopefully shoot some test cars soon and switch shops for paint, wheels are done I need to go pick them up later this week, chrome is back too, not perfect but good enough for a garage build, you can see some of the imperfections of our fabricating, hood ornament stuff looks great, Bob Drake isn't reproducing them anymore.

Got my wheels back.
Attachment 74434
Looking good even before you've put them on the truck.
My favorite "dog dish" cap, and the beauty rings set them off perfectly! Good Job!
I like those, planning to do something like that on my truck.
Thanks, I am going for an original look on the outside? I had these made by the wheel smith per the backspace I needed in 17x7 front and 17x9 rear, should fill up the fat fenders right and not have that weird gap that a lot of these trucks have, will also do a 1/8" spacer on the rear. Decided to just go with a satin black (same as chassis) instead of color matching the paint, the whole truck has a lot of black going on it. Tires and battery will be some of the very last things I buy.
Double checking the split bumpers still line up okay. Good enough for a garage build.
Attachment 74440
Good enough?!
That's an understatement.
When I saw the pics of them when you were building them I thought: 'Crikey he's going to have his work cut out to make something out of them.'
And then you show us these pics.
Wow!
I can only imagine the work and effort that has gone in to making them what they are.
Good on ya.
Top marks that man.
DITTO! The bumpers look great!
Did some catching up on your thread, wow wow wow! Everything looks amazing, and the dustless sandblasting looks like the way to go. I couldn't help but notice your Mustang II adjustment slots are nearly maxed out just like mine. I've been doing a lot of reading on them, and apparently the top spring pocket should be welded on an inch further back than what the instructions say, The bumpers look amazing!!!
Yeah they have some imperfections that you can see better in person, we are looking for the flaws though?
My cousin rounded up some material for me from his work, I went and picked it up and we was able to get some brackets made for the rotisserie.

Finally moved the stuff over to the paint booth.
Attachment 74445
Took the Fordy Stalker out for a burn while we had it out since it was parked in the paint booth.
Attachment 74446
Got the cab all mounted to the rotisserie, now to come up with a game plan, I think we will tackle the bed first, got our work cut out.

If I do a crazy build again I'm definitely going to look into a rotisserie!
My brother has been laying down all metal on the worst areas of the truck before we do primer, the bed subframe has been painted with some single stage that I used on the chassis. I got a bunch of days off in June I hope we can start getting to laying down the paint.

I had to catch up on your progress too. I absolutely love those split front bumpers, the rear gravel shield work, all of it. It is looking fantastic. I thought for a minute about putting split bumpers on my 40 but I think I'm just going bumper less. The grill chin will get mashed with or without a bumper. My car sets so low the bumper might protect from curbs but not much else.
Yeah I opted to not do the drop spindles on my truck so I don't think I will have chin scraping problems, My brother took his off the coupe cause of tire rubbing but he wants to go back and maybe try a different tire/wheel combo to prevent the rubbing. Bumpers are purely cosmetic, I do think they look great bumperless too, I am just going for being a little more unique out there.
Had to take a little mini vacation and get a break from truck stuff before we go to town on it the rest of this month.

Wonderful pictures! Thank You.
Crikey!
That second pic makes me think you fellas have so much land you had to stack it on edge to get it all in.
Beautiful pics! I'd love to get out that way within the next 10yrs with the family.
My bro removed some logos off my inner fenders and patched them since we modified them to be able to remove my radiator without tearing the whole front end apart.
Attachment 74507
Got the last of the large stuff moved over to the paint booth to prep for primer, running boards, front fenders, inner fenders.

Attachment 74509
I also spent some time disassembling a bunch of the small parts, boy is there a lot of them.
It's looking so nice! It's a good thing you went to Yellowstone when you did. The flooding and landslides look like a terrible mess.
Haven't made huge progress on the bodywork stuff, waiting to install a new air compressor for paint booth, got some hammering to do and then we should be ready to seal everything. Waiting on the compressor we decided to revisit the engine and get the new hydraulic roller cam put in, took out a solid mechanical flat tappet that was for drag racing.
Attachment 74533
Degreed the cam, put in all new springs, tested springs, all new pushrods, new timing chain (which I didn't even need) new timing chain cover, new smaller diameter damper, everything is going back together slowly.
Attachment 74534
As well I decided to start a project at home for those weekends I am not up at the shop and have some free time. I have had this old Jeep for 23 years, needs a lot of TLC. Putting all new steel tube flat fenders/flares, new exhaust and I need to drop the AX-5 transmission and see if I can rebuild it (blew out third gear a couple years ago) It's just running and old AMC straight 4, have many other things I would like to do to it but for now would just like to get it drivable again.

Just what every growing boy needs..... 2 projects and in different locations too! Looks nice. LOL
Nice YJ! Those flat fenders look great! A very capable trail rig, for sure! Down in low-low that straight 4 will climb a tree! I need to put some fenders like that on my '05 TJ!
Not any huge updates on the 40, we did get the engine recammed and changed out many other things, it's all back together and just waiting for body parts to start going back on, I also need to get in there and touch up the frame where we chipped and scratched up the paint.
Attachment 74576
Started moving all the panels around the paint booth getting ready for epoxy primer, tomorrow we will start cleaning out the dust, wiping everything down etc. Shop got a new air compressor and some new spray gun items so we are close, time and good weather is all we need. Look forward to seeing paint get put down but I know we have our work cut out with sanding/bodywork... Also I went ahead and got some gear vendors on order. :)
Attachment 74577
Curious, did you build the flat fenders or are they an aftermarket part? I could probably find something with a bit of searching, but it's easy to ask since yours look so good! You're a bit of a hike from there, but have you taken the YJ to MOAB? Mine's been there twice, and in the SW Colorado area several times, too. MOAB is AMAZING! That sound of the big tires on the slickrock climbing a steep grade is one you don't forget!
Wow engine looks fantastic!
