Had to take a little break from the pickup for a minute, went to one of my happy places..

While I was gone a couple things have been done to the truck, tire dimple is filled in, rear bumper is in progress of mock up.
Very cool truck. How hard was it to get those dual throttle bodies on the tunnel ram running right?
Well he had bought the engine from a builder out of California I believe, I couldn't tell you who, so it was ready to rumble, My brother has been getting experience behind the controls of the fi-tech and holley sniper, he says he prefers the holley setup/interface better. Probably the biggest issue he had to fix outside of playing with settings was move the temperature sensor to the thermostat housing area, It was installed on the passenger side head and caused it to run rich or lean at times, runs like it should now.
Found the "Goat Wagon" today at good guys in Salt Lake City. Not sure when we get back into this truck business.

Got to drive dads old 40 for the first time ever on Sunday.

Been dealing with a little health issues the last few weeks but I am starting to get my bearings straight again.
Rear bumper brackets on the truck have been getting shortened up. Still need to build some rollpan/filler panels and then hopefully move to the front bumper.

I agree, taking dads hot rod out for a ride, musta been a lot of fun! Memory overload!?!?!
Hope you get back to normal quickly.. we enjoy your updates! Yes, I am self serving.. but not to shallow! LOL
It was fun, I have some fond memories of riding in the back of it when I was a kid, Eagles, Charlie Daniels Band etc. playing on the 8 track in the glove box.
Rear bumper is fully mounted, original bolts deleted.

Still need to figure out some filler panels, not so sure I like the roll pan look on these trucks, makes the bed look even taller than it already is, maybe something like we was doing with paperboard today.
Attachment 73746
Started messing with the front bumper stuff today too, coming up with a game plan, I know how it's gonna look, just a matter of making that happen, I think the one we used on the back was a front bumper and the one we are using in the front is a truck rear bumper, doesn't really line up right which is fine cause we are cutting it up. ;)
Attachment 73747
I like the idea of covering the irons in the back. Some added "ribs" for strength and to give the eye "a distraction".. I'm not certain if the 39/40's used a frame cover over the running boards & below the front bed ahead of the wheels.. Maybe these could be "matched" to pull the theme together? If they exist at all.. LOL.
Or just tell me to shaddup! HAH! 8-)
Looks great
These photos make my eyes shine!
^^ LOL, could not of described it better!
Made it up today to check on the front bumper stuff... My cousin gave me some original bumpers years back so this is what we are using on the truck, I will get them down to Ogden Chrome when they are done, along with my original hood ornament stuff (I don't even think Bob Drake is getting repop stuff made?)
Attachment 73762
I like that a lot. Will the bumper remain split in two pieces or will you fill in the section between the two sides?
Would you be willing to trace the bumper mounts on a paper and send it to me? I really like that.
It will be a split bumper, should follow the shape of the fenders at about 1 1/2" away, other end is getting rounded similar to the outer ends. I don't think copying the mounts would work unless you copy the bumper as well, those should be a bit easier than the bumpers, the outer one we can just bend back towards the fender, the inner one will have to be cut and probably heated and bent with a sharp curve to be able to attach again, hole re-drilled. I am cutting up some aftermarket Bob Drake mounts.
Still working on building a jig to curl the ends of my bumperettes. Here's the two in progress.

Also got to go for a few burns in this stang today, friend of my brothers, retired Air Force Veteran. Was doing some data logging trying to get the stacks to run properly, has a stumble/hesitation going on.

Little more bumperette progress but plans have changed on how we will mount them..
Attachment 73801
Frame mounted brackets won't be used, these will at this point not really function as a bumper but more of a decoration or art piece, we will fill in the bumper holes on the fenders and directly mount these bumperettes to the fenders, already got the supplies we need to make that happen and give it a floating appearance.

Hopefully before too long I can say we are getting the body work and such started, probably be next year before paint?

Went and did the "West Yellowstone Rod Run" over the weekend with the "Goat Wagon"

Beautiful car!
The Goat Wagon is named that for a reason, took my brother and his father-in-law 12 years to build, his father-in-law has owned the car since 1969, its a 1957 150 handyman station wagon. The engine, transmission, instrument cluster, wiring harness, blinker switch, wiper switch, seats, door handles, radiator, hazard button and I am sure I am missing some things, all came off of a 2006 GTO. Home built car, paint and all except the upholstery.
Here are a few upholstery shots I took years back after it was completed.

Oh and I was told my bumperettes are mounted on my truck fenders and about ready to grind, I need to get that stuff done and down to Ogden Chrome soon.
That is a wild interior! Looks cool, love the car.
Split bumper has a home..

So I have been trying to get some custom backspace wheels made for the truck for most of the year, first they where telling me they had material issues and didn't know when they would have material back in stock, talking to them last week the guy sounded pretty confident that they could get them made and if I didn't hear from them by Thursday to call them back, well I have called back about 6 times since last Thursday and left multiple messages with no return calls, I give up at this point, horrible customer service. Now I need to come up with a plan B and see if there are any wheel companies that can make me some aluminum wheels or something, kind of throws a wrench in what I had planned but maybe I can find a look I like elsewhere.
I don't know anyone who can help you but I do know getting materials right now can be a challenge. Good Luck is all I can offer! 8-)
I work in large scale manufacturing so I understand, communication would be nice, I did finally get an email today saying he is waiting for a response from the shop and he hopes to have them ready early September. I really have my heart set on these wheels, I'm going for a certain look, you'll all have to wait and see the final result.
Couple more random photos I took last weekend, 4 of the vehicles we took got a plaque, I drove dads old 40 coupe that we have had since 1964 and the biggest inspiration for my pickup.

Congrats on the recognition awards. Those are all awesome rides.
x3 from me
Thanks guys, it's neat to be able to do stuff like that together as a family, there are still a half a dozen more or so that aren't done yet. I look forward to finishing mine and doing some photo shoots especially with the two 40 coupes.
Here's the shirts, flyers etc this year for the upcoming "Peach Days" car show in Brigham City.. The wagon won best of show a couple years back so it will be on display this year.
Attachment 73873
Had a decent turnout last weekend at peach days, a little under 1,000 vehicles showed up, there is usually more but first part of the day had rain so I think a lot opted not to do it. We had a couple of the family rods there.
Attachment 73942
Truck stuff has been going slow, been busy elsewhere, my brother stopped by Ogden Chrome and talked getting my bumpers and hood ornament re-chromed.. OH MY is it gonna be costly. Here is how the split bumpers attach to the fender.
Attachment 73943
I got a job offer on the air force base so I think I may be changing jobs by the end of the year, should still be able to move forward on the truck project.
Been busy with work and such lately, got a little more progress done.
Realigned the front bumper stuff and finished making sure it was where it will stay.
Attachment 74138
I have been grinding and blending mostly the back side for the last few days.
Attachment 74139
A lot of time and work going into these.
Attachment 74140
Maybe next weekend or so we will finish building the filler panels for the rear, paperboard templates are on it now, should be the last of the fabrication besides any interior stuff?
