From time to time those of us who value a free market economy as opposed to the central command economies favored by our leftist opponents have to battle the frequently repeated propaganda that misinforms. Our difficulty, besides having to overcome the mass media disinformation, and political contortions, is that persuadable fellow citizens don't often have a real time frame of reference they can recall.

A case in point is the notion that "...jobs are exported because of corporate greed..." or some such drivel. My contention is that in nearly every case it's more a matter of survival than greed. Those who choose not to learn to understand what and why a free market consists of and benefits all, still won't get it (see quotation above about facts vs beliefs). Here's an article by a former DEMOCRAT Senator who left that job because he was frustrated as much by his own party as his opponents: Evan Bayh: ObamaCare's Tax Raid on Medical Devices - WSJ.com

He names just a few incidents of many that are occurring in real time, and in just one industry. These incidents are just small things that generally go unnoticed until they happen over time and accumulate into a seeming unrelated statistic about jobs lost and the shrinkage of tax revenue, middle class incomes, GDP, and many more data sets. A nation doesn't fail in a light switch moment, nor by the outcomes of just one decision or one term of office. It's an accumulation of small, seemingly innocuous decisions and actions that pile one upon another until they overwhelm "the system". (note, that famous book known as "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" is HUGE for a reason) Like in the old saying, "the straw that broke the camel's back", seemingly it was that last straw that caused the failure............but in reality, ALL of the straws contributed their small piece.

The whole “shipping good jobs overseas…” argument is really wearing thin. I concur with Bob that such moves are usually survival rather than greed.

On a related topic, people rarely talk about the number of “overseas” jobs that have come to the United States. The second generation (2007 onward) Tacoma Tundra was initially assembled at two different United States locations; the original plant was in Princeton, Indiana until such time as a new, very modern plant was built in San Antonio, Texas. Toyota also brought all of their key Tundra suppliers to Texas and had them build on the same site to mitigate the logistical issues. In addition, Toyota built a $9 million dollar health care facility to serve workers and their dependents. To date, Toyota has invested $2.1 billion (yes – billion with a “B”) in this plant.

In 2011, there were 82,908 Tundra and 110,705 Tacoma truck built at this plant. Average salary for “production Team” is $54K plus benefits per year. Not bad in San Antonio.

Granted, the net profit goes back to the “land of the rising sun”, but the 2,300 non-union people (Toyota shuttered it’s only union plant in San Francisco in 2009) who work for Toyota are probably okay with that.

The near-by Arlington Texas GM SUV plant which employs approximately 2,400 workers, who are UAW Local 276 members, cannot compete with Toyota because on average, GM costs are a staggering $81.18 an hour in wages and benefits to their hourly workers, and to cover pension and retiree medical costs. At that rate, labor costs per vehicle at Arlington are about $1,800

Toyota’s non-union labor has a total hourly cost, with benefits, of about $35-40 an hour -- less than half of GM's rates – primarily because the Toyota plant won't have any direct retiree costs for years so even if Toyota only matches the Arlington GM plant in productivity, there is a labor cost advantage of about $1,000 per vehicle. I see a lot of Tundras in my neck of the woods and they seem to be a pretty solid rig – and they’re built with American labor in San Antonio, Texas.

There are similar stories with Nissan, Honda, BMW, etc… Maybe the Japanese (and Germans) should bellyache about their jobs going overseas??

I saw this quote on another site and thought it was appropriate for this thread.

    I like that.

In a similar vein; this was in our local paper the other day:

"1) You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

    2) What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

    3) The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

    4) You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

    5) When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the 'other half' are going to take care of them, and when the 'other half' gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation."

Pretty much common sense really...nothing too hard to understand there.

I believe it's all for naught. Mitt's 47% video seems to be ending his hopes before they start.

only a small percentage of the 47% will vote anyway . if obama is re elected you are going to see massive unemployment. remember ross pero and the sucking noise ? your going to see more outsourcing than ever.
there is only about 53% of the work force employed right now . cant go by unemployment numbers since people drop off after they run out of benefits or go on welfare. before 06 we had about 67% employed steady . once the dems took over it began to fall. after obama took over it fell off the cliff.

Thanks for the vid. Many of us have been saying this for a long time. How many years do you remember that we've asked for a balanced budget? How many candidates do you remember that have been swept to the side into obscurity because no one wants to feel the pain to get this accomplished?

Yes. I am one of the digruntled, can barely bring myself to vote anymore for a candidate that is the lesser of a disagreeable set of choices. Even if I was to run for an office that I could be qualified for, no one would vote for me! No one wants to face this reality! But, it's coming. We'll be facing a depression like never seen before I fear.

This topic is nothing new, but no politician has the guts to get their party to see it through, who's going to support that? So, like Greece (and now France) we'll watch it happen to us, un-able to stop the dilemma if we don't face up to it.

And yes. Just my opinion. tyvm...

Has anyone other then me noticed that the 3 or 4 supporters of this president have been totally quite regarding this cover up of the US citizens that were murdered in recognition of 9-11.

They must think that these murders will be less people that need jobs. Thus will make the unemployed numbers go down. Adding to the myth that Goofy has created jobs for the people and unemployment is growing smaller... Think about it a few more car accidents, some Katrinas and his job creation record could be looking pretty good.

    Angry

To be seen but not heard is golden when it comes to moderating. For me to have to deal with complaints taking me away from some very valuable time with my family, especially on a site where we are mostly adults is ridiculous.

You want to talk politics, this is the only thread

I've had to delete 5 posts and two new political threads that have spilled out from this one today, the bottom line that all of you know is that personal attacks will not be tolerated. Post a personal attack like those I removed today and you will be banned permanently.

You do not want to see what happens when I get angry

    Enough said.
Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.
