I wasn't worried about the belts to be honest as already sorted them out with my local bearing specialist.

Thanks, Steve, on the lathe info. Yeah, the belt thing used to be a real problem back in the '60's & '70's, but since around 1980 became all but a non issue with mandatory tolerances and improved processes.
