OK, your comment forced me to go back and look for the "...shown ages ago", and I found the single pic 12/23/2011 showing your Christmas present!;) I never put together that there were two different sets of springs, one "old knackered set" and a shorter, chromed version sitting in the wings. What the search did do was give me a quick scan of the fabrication pictures throughout the build, and reminded me of just how many pieces/parts you've made from scratch, or modified to suit your needs. It also showed that you're about ten steps ahead in the process mentally, knowing six months ahead exactly what you'll need, and getting things in place to get there!:) Your fabrication talent is amazing, sir, and I again thank you for sharing the details with us.

Thanks Roger, I didn't mean to be curt about these items if it came over that way. I guess having built many cars over the years it instills into you that you need to be organised to get things done, I'm actually collecting parts at the moment for my next project after i finish my 26T, Doing it this way means i can pick and choose parts and i can also wait until i see them at their cheapest :LOL:
Having the majority of the parts before you start the build really helps with quick progress plus the hit in the wallets not so bad.

You weren't curt in any way. I simply did not recall the chromed springs (CRS senior affliction, ya' know), so I went looking and in the process took time to once again scan the many photos of parts you built/modified in the 70+ pages of posts. I probably should have taken notes for future reference!!

I think everytime I see something that I missed before, that your lovely assistant must have been in the photos distracting us! Either that or one of Bob's was actually blocking out the view, and burning our eyes! :)

Just a few small jobs to do before i strip it to paint the chassis, one of the jobs was to brace the firewall, Willys bodys always seem to have the dors drooping when opened and mine is no different, its only a tiny bit now but its annoying.



My firewall is cut right back and even though it has a tube frame its still flexes slightly, the answer was to put in a tube either side to connect the firewall to the front of the chassis horn.

The tube is 16swg 1.5" 316L stainless, it doesn't need to be thick wall as this is very strong in compression & light. Bends are mandrel bent 316L stainless.



Flat threaded plates are welded behind the firewall to bolt into.



Didn't have any 1.5" flanges to hand so used the 2" triangular ones that i keep in stock, these needed an adaptor to make up the shortfall in size.



Adaptors were spun up in the lathe and welded into the flanges from the rear to keep it all looking neat & tidy, all parts were polished before welding.

Is that mateing to the top or side of the frame?? Either way it looks good and like it belongs there.

To the top of the frame horn Charlie, there is a triangular flange welded to it.

Super clean. One day I may lay a bead like that, but it will likely only be once....:o

Me too Roger, me too, talk about being a magnificent welder, and heck doesn't that firewall look excellent and remember guys what Steve told us at the start...... he wanted the car to look as if it had been thrown together in the early 60's for the drag strip..... yeah right eh.......LOL.

To be honest Roger that's not a neat weld really, it don't get seen so I didnt take much care without other than to get penetration, and as I'm sure you will agree its always nice to achieve full penetration :LOL::LOL::LOL:

I guess the old adage is true that "Experience is the best teacher...", applicable in many arenas ;)

Well the last few evening have been quite exhausting !!!



Seeing as this is a street car also I needed a full exhaust system so I picked up a pair of 2.5" bore Smithy mufflers, I decided against running the system under the car and have gne with a under sill mounted system which exits just in front of the rear wheels.



Firstly I made up some brackets that would take cotton reel rubber mounts in compression that would bolt to the floor.

Next a mount was made and welded to the muffler on each end.

Gaskets were made in Reinz heatproof gasket material

Then the complete muffler/bracket was bolted through the floor.

Next a stainless tail pipe was made from a 45 degree bend and some straight tube, the end was slash cut and looks just right.

Next some more stainless bends were cut and welded to hook into the header collector, this section is painted black VHT as i don't want it to show.
