Whip believe it or not 90% of my stainless comes from the local scrap dealer, They have separate bins for each type of metal, I just go along and have a root through, It costs me scrap value which is peanuts compared to the proper price, the guy there now knows me well so tends to put interesting stuff aside for me.
That piece of tube i used for the grille was 8feet long but only cost £1.50 ($2) as its not very heavy.

Like the lined front edge look. Definately gives it a cleaner finished look and goes well with the chrome fender welt.

Getting a bit closer to the big strip down for final paint and detailing, one of the last jobs to do was to move the front axle back 1" to the 102.5" wheelbase and replace the knackered front springs, I was going to get the springs remade but i've never been happy with the cutouts in the front panel, the springs were 36" between the eyes and i replaced them with 31.250", this pulled the shackles back inside the front panel which looks much neater, the cutouts were reglassed. This enabled me to cut the frame horns back by 2.5".

The springs were chromed and stainless shackles fitted, the towing eye was originally threaded into the original bumper mount holes, as these had been removed the open end was plated over and a tapered stainless mount spun up in the lathe, this is welded into place and a corresponding hole drilled in the front panel for the towing eye to be screwed into.

Looks much better now.

It does,Steve..looks much nicer..Refined in fact..Wish we were a bit closer than we are,cos I would love to go for a blast in that ol beast when its done..

Got to say I had wondered about those front shackles and the cutouts, but had not considered you were replacing the whole spring assembly. Looks fantastic now, and the towing eye is a great touch!
