I moved my alt down low when I did the engine transplant in `03 just kept welding pieces of scrap together so I had something to bolt to, then did measurements and made the brackets out of stainless tubing and alum bar stock, the store bought one never even got close to working...Why did you remove the cool flex....?Toys

Rich - I'm moving the alternator to a mid position on the RHS. I made up the existing wrap around bracket and married it to a Street and Performance head mounted piece. What it does is make it difficult to access the distributor plus seems to take over the top of the engine. I also can't install a big cap on the distributor to stop potential cross firing with the MSD. I'm going to use a Wysco bracket and fully understand that I'll probably have to do some mods. As far as the Cool-Flex hose - I just don't like it - too many cars have them. I'll be making up a replacement from a 1.5" piece of tubing.Dave W

HMmm.. I think I might enjoy that spreadsheet!
While I can toss pebbles now, my real motivator to complete mine so quickly was the State of Mass.! With the new rules coming into place in 2012, cars like mine will be so difficult to deal with, rodding as we know it is over I think! I had to beat that deadline and get my car in and grandfathered. (Their term too!) Since the car is now grandfathered, it doesn't need to meet the Year of Manufacturer (YoM) emmisions which in this case would be 2011!
In April 2012, "Assembled Vehicles" can only use a "certified manufacturer" drivetrain. That means the motor / transmission / rear axle have to be an assy from a late model vehicle with OBD 2 capabilities! The vehicle assembled from it will also need the plastic emmision stickers from the original vehicle in place! Oh, and if you want to change the rear axle, you need to stay within 3% of the original ratio! There's a lot more to it also but as you can see, I did NOT want to be a part of that! Hence the big push to get mine into the system.
So I guess I should thank the State of California for setting the standards for all these other states to follow...

for they really did push me into beating the deadline! Oh Yes.. SIGH........

(ya think I laid it down a little to heavy?

Well, MIKEY......now that you threw it out there, far be it from me to use nomenclature that you hate so much but once in a while I lose complete control of my fingers and the type whatever they type!
If it's pics you want fellas, here's my day....or week...or whatever.....
Ok, so I hate the method of adding pics on this site! Argh! I wanted to add captions but don't know how to do that.
So, we'll go with what we have:
As a refresher, you may remember my truck got smacked by an idiot who fell asleep while driving down my street. His '06 Toyota Solara was totaled and my truck sustained significant damage to the left corner of the bed and various other parts. The insurance company wanted to total mine, too and pay me as if it was a gardener's truck, but I fought them on it and they paid me for damages and I don't have a salvage title. Yay!
Since my old bed had rust in the front, new damage on the left rear, and right side had heavy bondo, I decided to look for a good replacement bed. Decent '64-66 F100 short beds are really hard to find! But I finally found a decent one. The bed floor is solid except the some previous owner felt the need to drill 21 drain holes in it....
Thus pic 1 - I spent the morning welding up many of those unnecessary holes.
pic 2 - I attached little pieces of copper to the top side of the bed floor with a magnet and welded the holes from the back side.
pics 3,4,5 - The I coated the underside of the bed with the Hy-Tech Metal Shield product that is shown in the pic. I bought it a few years ago for my '37 but decided to try it out on this.

I sold my old bed on craigslist because it was definitely worth repairing if you have the time and space to do it. The buyer picked it up last night so my truck has been bedless today.

While the bed was off I took it to the car wash and blasted the chassis and shot a little rustoleum on it. Since this is not a frame off restoration, that will have to do for now...
How about the cool '60 Dodge Power Wagon in the background? That belongs to my neighbor. My truck now parks next to it.
The underside of my new bed will be dry tomorrow and I'll put it on. I can do the rest of the body work as time permits....
There you have it gents! It's a pleasure as always....

Mikey - Huh?
I'll let it go this time!
Ah the Pics! Love'em! That truck is so clean! It must be a blast to drive too! Do you have any help moving big pieces around? Even a short bed has gotta be tough by yourself! It would be clumsy and bulky no? The bottom came out nice, I'll bet you can't wait for it to be all complete again! This chapter has been a long one!
And look at Dave Severson jumping in here! Hooray!
We see the count go up but never many replies for some reason?!?!
And 406rich, good to see you back in here as well! Now we just need Don Shillady!
OK Bobby, you can come out of hiding now!

Very nice, Randy. That vintage truck around here would have been crushed into 100 pound bale of steel and sent to China to return in a different form at Harbor Fright, the rest having been distributed along the highways and byways as flakes of iron oxideDave W
